Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI couldn't find staff in the evening to get extra milk, so I walked down the drive to the garage next door. The driveway was dark and next to no lighting. Luckily I had a torch in the car that I used. The drive needs to be far better illuminated. Also in arrival the entrance to the drive wasn't well signed and we struggled to find it. The tea cups in the room were tiny. You'd have to drink two teas to get the equivalent of an average cup size. Also there were four of the smallest biscuits. They should either give proper biscuit double packs or not. The tiny biscuits looked like an after thought. However, should biscuits be placed in rooms with the amount of allergies people have? Biscuits could contain nuts etc. On leaving there were no staff, so we deposited the key in a receptical that said 'Room keys'. It doesn't hurt to have staff present for when people leave to say good bye and a bit of customer service cheer. It was noted that the access control system didn't work to the room floor, although our locked securely. Again if your going to have access control have it working or don't but site security is extremely important to me. Sorry can't say about CCTV too much, as I only saw a few cameras that looked poorly fitted as did the access control. To me that shows a lack of consideration towards safety and security, plus the very few staff. There was an emergency number to call but that was it.
The pool, Jacuzzi and steam room were very nice. The room was comfortable and views great. The breakfast was very nice and enough. Also the Waiting On staff were very professional and polite. The town was a very short walk from the hotel where we got an evening meal as the hotel restaurant wasn't open.

United KingdomThe bathroom had no heating and was a bit chilly in the evening and morning. One member of staff was rather curt and almost rude, the rest were amazing. The Spa facilities were in need of updating (no sense of luxury!). The steam room and sauna didn’t work too well.
We were met by Joel who was happy to help with our bags. A very pleasant and welcoming young man. The place itself was very clean and nicely furnished. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good and served by a lovely, friendly and helpful waitress.

United KingdomMinor downside was the restaurant not being open on Mondays and Tuesdays, which was when we stayed, so we didn’t get to try the evening food, but we knew this before booking so it didn’t cause an issue.
The Cleve was delightful! We had a very spacious and beautiful room with wonderful views. The facilities were great, the food was excellent and all the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly. Will definitely be staying again.

United KingdomWe had planned to spend a day in the gardens on the sunbeds relaxing. It was not clear from the website that these were part of the onsite rental houses and the only onsite area to relax was the coffee house garden which was not a place to sunbathe etc. A minor inconvenience that meant we had to drive to the coast for the day.
We wanted to stay in an older type accommodation rather than a chain. The Cleve did not let us down. Rooms had high ceilings and it felt like a stately home. Coffee Room was good and we ate there on the last night of our stay, food was excellent. My wife had 2 treatments in the spa and loved them both.

United KingdomHad a leak in our room, staff sorted (upstairs rooms radiator had leaked) Menu for the bistro was small and a bit over priced. Spa shut at 9pm. No spare towels for the spa so bring some! Lots of stairs and no lift.
Spa Facilities was great, shame you only get an hour and a half a day to use them. Room was full of character! Amazing staff/team which were so helpful and friendly.

United KingdomMattress in the bedroom needs replacing, you roll straight into the middle due to sagging. Coffee at breakfast was awful, weak and no really taste. Paid for an Americano and it had a burnt taste.
Lots to like. Staff are amazing, so friendly and helpful. Decore in the main areas are beautiful, it is inviting and makes you feel relaxed and chilled. Food in the restaurant and at breakfast, so so taste. The location is stunning.

United KingdomThere was confusion on if the spa was included in the price or not. After discussing it with the staff, they gave us access but it did not appear to have been included in the original price. The double bed was two singles pushed together which was not great for a romantic couple of days away. The room was also a little quirky with bath taps plumbed in the wrong way round and a kettle lead which wouldn't reach the plug socket.
It was clean and functional. The spa was great, with swimming pool, whirlpool bath and steam room. It was also a good distance to the centre of Wellington if you want to walk in for a drink in the evening.

United KingdomFront of house reception not at all welcoming. Room was dated, tired and needed some love and attention. Very basic amenities. Large bottle of hairwash and one of shower gel bolted to the wall. No tissues, shower cap etc. The Spa area (pool, Jacuzzi, gym steam and sauna rooms) are all given priority to locals who have memberships. That's fine. The best view from the loungers in the pool area overlooked a car park and petrol station. The steam room was like sitting in a caravan. Overpowering chlorine smell. Doesn't feel at all like a spa! We had to use the towels from our room. We wanted to call down to get fresh ones but there are no phones in the room. When checking out, the card machine was broken and they wanted to write my card details in a notebook to try later. Erm, no.
The waiting staff in the Bistro were all lovely, helpful and friendly. The food while not perfect was good and with a couple of tweaks could be amazing.

United KingdomMassages we booked were sub-par (worst either my wife and I have had and on the expensive side at £90 each) The room was dated and had looked like it needed a fair amount of refurbishment. There was no air conditioning or even a fridge in the room so was too hot to sleep much at all (not that it’s usually an issue in the UK that it’s too hot) Therefore for us it wasn’t a great stay as really struggled getting enough sleep but the pool and hot tub made up for this a bit.
The breakfast was amazing and Steph who was the waitress two of the mornings was very friendly and welcoming. The pool and hot tub were very nice additions to the hotel and there is lots of areas to sit down and read a book etc
