Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomFabulous room experience marred by a number of glitches: room temperature was controlled by air conditioning unit which would have been noisy if I had needed it all night, wifi connection in room difficult to set up and needed staff help, wake up call missed and late by half hour, shower not working - v annoying to find this in the morning when you haven't got time to wait
I had booked a standard room, but was upgraded on arrival by the check-in staff, and I am not sure what status the room in which I stayed had. I thought it was exceptional. It seems that the hotel has fairly recently been refurbished, and I thought my room was exceptional, beautifully decorated etc, lovely bay widows with glass to floor level, fabulous looking curtains, good size with coffee table and comfortable velvet covered sofa. Rest of hotel looked very nice. Courteous staff Good location (if too close to road) with good view of town across the river. I hope development of the site on the opposite corner of the road will not detract

United KingdomA wonderful old building, but superbly maintained, without losing any of it's fine original features. Great location next to the river, and only a short walk to the main part of town. Rooms and beds were comfortable, and of varying sizes due to the age of the building, so no "one size fits all" type of rooms so common in most modern hotels. Bathrooms were very clean and well appointed, and actually contained a bath! Full English breakfast was delicious, and served in very smart small dining room with plenty of points of interest reflecting the buildings history. However, the large "Palm Court" restaurant has to be seen to be believed! Like travelling back in time, I almost expected Hercule Poirot to appear at any moment - it was straight out of a 1920's romance! A thoroughly enjoyable stay, and I hope to visit longer next time.

United KingdomAt the time of booking we asked for a room with a walk in shower. Our room had a shower over the bath, we were not advised our request had not been met at check-in. We noted a few signs the hotel is a becoming a little tired: our bathroom window had a small section of cracking including a small hole that had been repaired with silicone sealant. This did not detract from our stay.
The hotel is easily reached from the A39 and a good base for exploring Bideford across the river. Our room was a good size and the bed very comfortable. There are plentiful options at breakfast from full cooked to continental.

United KingdomParking. It wasn't made clear before arrival where the two car parks were situated. After a long journey the last thing you need is to be messing around looking for somewhere to park. Clear, large signage is all that's needed.
The room was beautiful and very clean, beds very comfortable and we had everything we needed.

United KingdomNothing really. It was all amazing.
Beautifully decorated hotel and restaurant, ideally located with own private car park. Excellent food and very comfortable room. We were upgraded to Room 107 which was large and newly refurbished. Staff are attentive and friendly and the building has a lot of history which is fascinating. We will definitely return. Thank you to all the staff.

United KingdomRoom was a bit warm on 1st night. Unable to open window much as was restricted. Window looks out directly over footpath, road and parking lot. Bedroom therefore needs to have a net curtain in addition to the normal curtain so that gusests can let sunlight in whilst maintaining privacy. No Fridge in room. Would be handy to store food & drinks for consumption when going out and about as one does on a holiday (as opposed to a buisness trip).
Free upgrade (to Tarka suite). Good food. V Comfortable beds.

United KingdomDisappointed that the charge for dog was nightly rate rather than a flat rate surcharge on booking like everywhere else I’ve used previously, so price ended up being double what I expected
The location was nice & close to the family members we were visiting. Loved the decor in the restaurant & bars. On one night there was a function downstairs with a dj but we were completely undisturbed in our room
