Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe were aware of their being no lift because we had been emailed .And we didn’t have any mobility issues as such.3 Floors later and after all the steps getting back to hotel( I wonder about other residents). We also had plumbing issues which I had to report to reception. We were out most of the day so only needed to use this a couple of times a day but it was embarrassing to tell the Reception.
We have been to Whitby before and had a meal prior to all the refurbishment. It looks lovely and the staff are so welcoming and friendly. We love the location on West cliff. Obviously under a lot of improvements at the moment .

United KingdomThe parking is terrible at the hotel for such a large hotel, if we had known how limited it was we wouldn’t have booked. Tried to reserve a space was told it’s been fully booked for months, the overflow car park is on a small bit off waste ground and is far too small for the hotel. I know the hotel is dog friendly like all the hotels but don’t think they should be allowed in the restaurant. The hotel looks nothing like the picture on booking.com, there was work being done to the outside as scaffolding was up, the lift wasn’t working but we did know that before we went and isn’t an issue for us, the whole hotel needs an up lift.
The location was great. The room we had was good with beautiful views. The staff are friendly.

United KingdomNothing.
Perfect location for our stay. Booked parking which was definitely worth it. Busy hotel but staff had time to chat, were friendly and helpful. Scaffolding around the hotel which we knew about prior to visit so not an issue. We booked a small double with sea view. Room was a bit dated and the bed had been placed covering electrical sockets. Still managed to charge phones but had to unplug TV. Overall, good value for money.

United KingdomThe room we had was very small with a double bed. You literally touched the TV to pass to get to the toilet, and also, I kept hitting my toes to the bed as the space between the door and the bed was very narrow. The toilet door is almost touching the bed unless you pay for a superior room, you won't get a spacious room
It's a very big hotel and has several bars, a big restaurant. The restaurant had a reasonable menu with daily specials. All the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. It has a car park to the back with reasonable charges. We went with a motorbike and were given several choices to designated spaces for motorbikes

United KingdomCarparking is limited, so you have to be very lucky to find a space if the carpark is full. Yes, building work is ongoing, and areas of the hotel are a little dusty, but this will be worth it to bring the hotel back to a high standard.
It is an amazing building that is currently undergoing a major renovation programme. Once completed, it will be brought back to its glory days. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. The addition of a dog friendly establishment is an added bonus.

United KingdomAlthough spotlessly clean think we in an room that still needs updating. Mismatched furniture and very different almost clashing curtains between bedroom and bathroom. Room basic!! Just laundry white bedding on bed no throw or cushions say to finish it off. Other people saying how fab their rooms were so guess we just out of luck as hotel is being renovated. Corridor outside room had a funky damp smell all the time.
Lovely place and excellent views.

United KingdomThe major drawback was the non functioning lift and being allocated a room on the 3rd floor. 66 steps to our room, at 67 years of age, with a suitcase and bags was no joke, and watching a disabled girl struggling down the stairs from our floor was very concerning.
The location and sea view were very good. Breakfast and meals were also good and the staff particularly diligent and attentive. B

United KingdomWe felt that the room lacked storage for the duration of our stay, as there were no chest of drawers. It would be more suitable as an overnight or short weekend room.
The breakfast was amazing, and good choice of food on offer. Hotel is in a good location. It’s handy having the option to go on the tour bus, which stops outside the hotel.

United KingdomThe lift is out of action (which we were advised about prior to travel) however , being on the top floor ( third floor) was sometimes quite a challenge . A dirty towel was found behind the bed on the first evening. The room only half serviced on one of the days. The room looked very tired and dated, however, the rooms are apparently, gradually being updated Bedside lamps on both sides of the bed ,but only one could work ,the other the cable and plug could not reach the plug socket
Liked the location, a good pick up point for the Whitby Tour bus. Evening meal in the restaurant , The Fat Badger ,was lovely. Most staff very happy and smiley and pleasant. Bed very comfortable
