Romlan offers interesting and unique rooms, a delicious breakfast, and great staff who make you feel welcome. The view over the lake is absolutely perfect. The location is a bit isolated, but if you’re looking for peace and quiet, it’s a wonderful choice.

It can be a bit noisy (dogs, jetskis, restaurant...) - you can get free earplugs at reception. :) And I think the noise is there in almost all places in Tuktuk. There's cold water only.

We enjoyed staying at Romlan, it was one of the best places we stayed on our trip to Sumatra. The room was clean, with comfortable bed and blankets, fast wifi, great balcony to admire the lake and the sunset. The bathroom even had a shower cabin which is not a standard on Sumatra. :) Location is great, there's also a restaurant downstairs with delicious food and nice ambient. You can refill your water bottle there. The staff is friendly, helpful and easy to communicate with. They resolved some issues in the fairest and kindest way possible.

The property is located right on the lake. Our view of the lake was amazing and for the little money we paid, we were very impressed with this. The bar/restaurant area was great and the food was good, with lots of options on the menu. They also had board games for us play which was a nice touch. Our bungalow was basic but had everything we needed. Great value for money.

Noisy local tourist people on the deck till late. Nobody off the staff was telling them to stop or go to bed.

Only downside: the shower pressure for the shower head was so low we ended up showering with the bucket.

Overall an excellent stay at Romlans guesthouse. Comfortable and spacious room, each with their own private space/balcony, lake view and outside seating. Beds were big and comfortable, the shower was closed off, which is a plus. The restaurant is good, the coffre is also very good and their sandwich made with fresh bread are enjoyable. The service though is quite slow.

The place is really clean and well maintained but there’s some wear and tear. Not an issue, but just adds to the charm.

Romlan is truly a special place. We only got to stay for two nights but will be back again some day for longer. The staff are so helpful and it’s in the most beautiful location, right on the lake. The food is absolutely delish, so there’s really no need to leave. The perfect place to relax while also exploring Lake Toba.

My room seems to have some odor from the bathroom

Rooms are close to the lake, can jump into the water with just a few steps. The swimming area is quite private and not close to other guesthouses/ resorts.

Not the best organised . If foodstuffs are not available then replenish for the following day , there's really no excuse for Mango's , also make the Granola on the evening ready for breakfast, keep white wine chilled .

Aftrr staying aroind 10 days they said they couldn't find a place for us for one more night. Most of the guests only stay for 3 nights.

Not enough Indonesian food on the menu. Would be nice if they also used more Indonesian to give to the names of the dishes as well as more use of Indonesian spices. The European cooking was very good especially the cakes and deserts.

We had a wonderful experience at Romlan Guesthouse! The staff were incredibly friendly and always ready to help with anything. What stood out to us the most was the food — everything was homemade, from the jam to the bread and pasta, and it was absolutely delicious. The menu was extensive, offering a great variety of food and drinks, including many Western options. We appreciated the variety since it wasn’t just Indonesian cuisine all the time. The location was also fantastic and very convenient. There are plenty of watersport activities nearby that are easy to book. Not much to find fault with to be honest. The bathroom door neither locked nor shut properly which was not a problem for me alone but might have been if I was sharing with someone. There are noisy jet skis and speedboats whizzing past at all hours which is not the property's fault but is not especially relaxing. Worst of all the lake water is not very clean here, and I didn't swim the whole 4 days because I simply didn't fancy it. Yes, it had been windy but it looked really murky and there were so many plastic bottles in the water. I am sure they did not originate in Romlan but you get the impression (all over Indonesia) that they don't really notice plastic pollution, and it's a big problem. How different would it be, really, to have a wee clean around each morning? It would take just minutes and make such a difference.

A really lovely place to stay. Perfect setting, beautiful views, attractive dining area and good food. Fabulous coffee and they even have oat milk - a dream. It's not the cheapest food around, and not was it the cheapest room, but looking at some other places at the budget end of the scale I'm really glad I chose Romlan. The staff are sweet and work hard to make sure you have a great stay. I had a king room with balcony. The room was very spacious, including the bathroom, and the bed was really comfy. There are kayaks for use but it was too windy while I was there, but I did rent a scooter - definitely recommended. The ferry picks you up directly from the steps if you wave your arms about,which is very convenient.

-unfortunately the wifi in my room (upstairs) was quite weak which made remote work difficult at times - often had to rely on mobile data (especially during calls) -the noise from the jet skis, especially in the weekends made it hard to relax and unwind - but I’m aware it’s not something the property can control

The owner should change something around the entrance situation. Feels (and actually is) like walking through the backdoor of a restaurant and does not look very inviting at first.

I really enjoyed my stay at Romlan guesthouse - great location directly at the lake, rooms with a very comfy bed, enough space for luggage and a large balcony with a view over the lake, free water to refill, nice staff, ... Great value for money and fully recommend!
