Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaWe didn't have an en-suite, which I didn't expect for a Ryokan, so that was not an expectation, but just something I would prefer. it was our first experience of a Ryokan. The share wash basin is out in the open so no privacy at all.
Location was the best feature, being next to the lake and offering a good view of Mt Fuji from the rooftop.

SpainThis is a traditional, simple ryokan, located along the lake, about 25 minutes walk from the station. They offer transport to the station the morning you leave but not pick up. The walk, however it's absolutely gorgeous if you don't have much luggage. We stayed in the Japanese style room with tatami and had a perfect wiew of mt Fuji from our window. The toilet was located outside the room but it was close and very clean. The Japanese breakfast in the morning was scrumptious. And, though we didn't have dinner included, there are a few restaurants nearby and facilities to worm up food and eat it in the room.

Basic rooms as expected from A ryokan - big, comfy and clean rooms and facilities with a great onsen on site. Staff was welcoming on arrival and departure, supplied Yukatas in the rooms. Weather was foggy so didn’t get to see the view. Excellent organic Japanese breakfast

United StatesGreat view of the lake and fuji from the terrace. My room also had a nice view of Fuji. About 15 mins or so by bus from the main station. You can take the red sightseeing bus, and get off a few stops in, short walk from there to the Ryokan.

AustraliaShould have a clear instruction on how to pass any note to the owner (e.g. my message leave on the main dining hall's door -- about I would come back later for the next day's breakfast because of sunrise viewing in the park -- was not read by the owner/kitchen in time because the staff only use the side door to the dining hall, not the main door, so not seeing the note, and resulting a lukewarm dish for my breakfast on that day).

NetherlandsBeautiful location, very friendly staff (although they didn't speak English) and great facilities. The onsen is HOT. It's amazing! Free coffee and tea as well. The location is about 5 minutes from the fireworks show in winter, perfect. There also is a free shuttle bus service to the station, but you could also easily walk it.

Hong KongYou have to walk outside your room to use the toilet, otherwise, it is a great ryokan experience.
The breakfast was good, with the price we pay, we got a lot of variety, typical Japanese breakfast. Very impressed by the little plates they used for each dish. Our favourite is the omelette dish, after you consumed the food, the reflection of the Mt. Fuji dramatically appeared in the plate. Service was excellent, appreciated the kindness and thoughtfulness of the owner, he did everything by himself. The dining area was spacious and we always meet different international travellers in the breakfast room, a lot of interesting conversations. Good onsen, and you can see Mt. Fuji on the toproof if weather permits. It is the Japanese style tatami, an unique experience.

New ZealandStaff are quite friendly and helped us to send our luggage to our next hotel. The breakfast has a lot of variety and quite nice. The whole fish with bone is a bit challenging for people who never had fish with bone before but it’s manageable. Futon is a bit difficult for people who doesn’t like very hard bed, but the room is clean and nice. In the roof we can see very good Mt Fuji view. From the window we have the lake view as well, which is really awesome. It’s about 30 mins walk from KAWAGUCHIKO station. They have shuttle as well, which is quite useful. Onset is quite nice. A bit difficult to get used to share the bathroom though. So I recommend to go at 10:00pm ish then probably don’t have to share it with other people.

CanadaThe room was quite drafty in October and the heater took quite a while to warm up the room. The staff spoke very little English and we had minimal interaction with them but they seemed pleasant. Sheets on the comforters had stains but I'm sure they would have changed them if we had asked.
You can't beat the view of Mt Fuji from the rooftop terrace! The onsen was a peaceful way to start the day and you can use it as a family. The traditional Japanese breakfast was varied, with lots of delicious food.
