United States of AmericaThe hotel appears a bit outdated and could benefit from renovations. We opted for the adult side, which offered stunning views, but unfortunately, the rooms lacked modernity. Even on the family side, though larger, the rooms were also outdated, yet boasted better-functioning AC units. Despite reporting issues with our AC and mini-fridge, they were not addressed during our stay. The food quality rated a mediocre 5 out of 10, and reservations for the restaurants were required, but difficult to secure due to the timing of booking availability. Eventually, we managed to dine at three restaurants, with the Mexican cuisine standing out as the highlight. The French option was decent, while the Asian cuisine left much to be desired. Buffet options were available, with the omelette stations at breakfast being a standout feature. However, overall, the buffet offerings were satisfactory at best. The onsite coffee shop provided acceptable desserts and sandwiches. I wasn't sure what to expect because of the reviews and I didn't choose this resort it was a group event and had read the reviews So I can say it was a little better than I expected per the reviews.
The spa staff, particularly Isabel and Lidia, provided exceptional service. The nightly entertainment was enjoyable, and the hotel maintains high cleanliness standards. The beach offers stunning views, and the well-kept grounds enhance the overall beauty of the resort.

United States of Americathe food was not amazing, we were able to only make reservations at 1 place since it was all booked, it was the Mediterranean one and it was sub par, meat was tough and staff in there was not helpful at all, and the salad bar was minimal, we ended up eating at the buffets the rest of the time, family beach buffet was excellent, breakfast was good too but dinner lacked many meat choices, lots of potatoes, fruit veggies and bread, but not much main courses. and the burrito bar is only open in the evenings, always a long line and they were out of everything with 1 staff member working it, food was awful, definitely wouldn’t go there! it’s a very large property, they have shuttles but most the time we’d wait 20-30 min for one and it would be full and end up walking cuz waiting in the hot sun another 30 min didn’t seem feasible.
it was beautiful and clean and the beach and pools were amazing! plenty of places to eat and get drinks, the rooms were very nice and clean, they were always on top of cleaning everything! the staff was friendly and helpful, the waiters in the buffets were excellent and the nightly shows were a lot of fun, we liked the jungle feel of the resort, it wasn’t too over done or modern, just what you’d expect in Mexico!

United States of Americathe toilet never flushed, so it smelled like pee in our room a lot. they talk you into doing a 90 min time share thing which took almost 4 hours of our time and the woman wouldn’t take no for an answer which really irritated me. wine was not included in all inclusive??! the pool closes at 5pm! never stayed somewhere where the pool was closed so early. I booked an all inclusive ADULTS ONLY and it was not ADULTS ONlY! I paid a lot of money thinking there would be no kids anywhere and I seen kids everywhere I went. so I was a little frustrated about being false advertised when booking. the restaurants were always booked, which wasn’t fair considering what we paid for our stay. they put fruit in our room but it was all moldy!
our room was right off the ocean with a beautiful view. the bed was very comfortable. the shuttle bus was very nice. the cats walking around were super cute.

CanadaStaff are rude and unhelpful. There are better hotel options within the neighborhood, and do not book any off site trips through the hotel. As they use a third party company that basically uses other party people to make the bookings. You will end up paying way more than what it is really worth

United States of AmericaVery crucial information was not given to us at check-in including 1) the fact that you have to book covid tests well in advance, spots fill up and that the rest takes 4 hrs to result, and 2) that if you do not make reservations dinner well in advance of your stay you will end up eating at the open buffet for every meal which was pretty awful.

Lack of communication- nothing explained on check-in, no information in the room, no information when reservations for restaurants brought in. Room needs updating- looking a bit tired for a 5* resorts. Food variable- Argentinian restaurant definitely not AL A Carte.

CanadaMy wife and I came to Sandos Playacar 2 years ago and we absolutely loved it. 10/10 I would not recommend after returning this time. We enjoyed our trip back in 2019 so we came back here again to spend our honeymoon. - First opportunity they had upon our arrival they tried to sell us on their hotels “program” for discounts - we had 5 nights booked here after staying at Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya. Sandos told us the restaurants were completely booked and we had to eat at the buffet every night or they could squeeze us in around 10pm a couple of the nights with no choice where to eat - our room had no hot water the first night we arrived - over 30 minutes just to check-in with the front desk - they now charge to use the hot tub/sauna $25USD/hr/pp - no more hammocks on the beach - they have removed the ping pong table from the adults only pool - kids in the adults only areas and on the beach - buffet meals are hit and miss when it comes to being waited on and trying to get drinks - they constantly have people walking around trying to sell you massages or photo opportunities - Empty apologies and promises from guest services (David) to bring my wife chocolate strawberries to make up for their mistakes which never came. - Room service was terrible, left arrival fruit in our room for days to collect fruit flies until I threw them out our front door. - Everyone both guests and staff seem to not want to be there, terrible attitudes creating a terrible vacation environment. Overall the resort has gone backwards from what it once was and I would not recommend it to anyone. Very disappointed.

United States of AmericaWe have been to Sandos Pre Covid several times and during Covid September 2020 and had the best time.. Food and service were always amazing they made you feel welcome and pampered... this vacation to Sandos was the absolute worst... The guest service was horrible.. Many of the employees were very rude.. Rolled their eyes when asked to prepare a drinks at the bar by the beach connected to the food bar also the bar in the lobby. I called room service for a pot of hot coffe never arrived.. I called for clean towels never arrived.. The food selection this time was poor.. The employees this time were not attentive I felt like I was at a 1☆ hotel.. We dealt with very unpleasant attitudes the whole stay.. So not worth the money you spend to stay.. So many felt the same way, elite guests as well... SANDOS WHAT HAPPENED YOU USE TO BE OUR FAVORITE.. WE BROUGHT SEVERAL 1ST TIMERS AND THEY WERE NOT IMPRESSED.. THEY HAD A DISAPPOINTING TIME... WHAT A LET DOWN...
There were 2 people that gave excellent service during our stay.. Zayas in Spa was very professional and attentive..Esteban (Rafael) at the breakfast buffet was excellent service every day of our stay..
