The hosts were really lovely and hospitable and genuinely care about each individual guest. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed. The location was perfectly located near the old town. 10/10 I wouldnt stay anywhere else if I visited Funchal again

The shower pipe was blocked so the water wouldn't come down while I was showering. The mattress was horrible and even though there was an extra blanket provided I was still freezing in the room. Old fashioned design of the room but it's fine ;)

It was very clean and quite well located. I didn't know before checking in that daily room cleaning and towel change is included. The owners are friendly and ready to help you anytime!

Very nice, clean and traditional looking property. The host was amazing and super helpful. Location is perfect, close to various bars and restaurant and other tourist attractions. Breakfast was offered every morning, which was very good. All the staff were extremely nice. The host also helped to book us onto a day trip, which was an amazing experience and we saw a lot of the island. Would stay here again.

There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. Care is needed on leaving/entering the hotel as there are no pavements and the road can be busy at certain times of the day. There was some external traffic noise but generally it is a very quiet residential area.

The staff particularly Umberto and his father were very approachable and helpful particularly during a bout of illness I suffered during the week. Umberto himself collected us promptly at our request from the airport and returned us there at the end of our stay. I stayed there with friends, a couple, and thoughtfully and unexpectedly we were provided with a downstairs suite in an adjacent property which had its own sitting room which was comfortable and private and ideal for our needs. We took our breakfast in the main hotel which is just next door and the service although simple was very good. The food whilst relatively simple was fine and Umberto's father brought in home made bread for us every morning. The whole suite was very clean and well cared for and all facilities were satisfactory. The hotel is located just near the restaurant quarter of the old city so we were a 10 minute walk from town. On occasions when we were tired we were able to take a bus home , the number 40 which stops immediately outside the hotel.

Nothing that I can think of. Not very many wall sockets that could see but I made do.

Quiet pension in the upper old town, with short walking distance to restaurants, the main market etc. Traditional, pretty room with comfortable bed, plenty closet space for clothing and other stuff. TV with plenty international channels. Spacious and bright bathroom with good shower and a large sink. My room was in an adjacent building but very good. Father and son Horta who runs the place are very nice and helpful people, and speak multiple languages.

Bathroom needs a renovation. The bath is really too small, water flow is very poor, couldn't have hot water when others shower. The only downside of the place.

There is a main building, and another one at the adjacent road, where we stayed. The main one has nice views, while the other one feels too dark and aged, even with a CRT TV.

This was a last minute booking, but we were happy with what we got. The host is a such nice person. We were received at the location, got the access and the instructions around the place and some tips for restaurants nearby. The stay was smooth. The beds and shower were pretty good! The location is also a plus, within few minutes walk from the most beautiful corner of Funchal.

Shower had very little water pressure at non-scalding temperatures. Couldn't bring in a guest, couldn't access fridge after 8pm, 3pm on Sundays.

Someone might not like the breakfast that is esentially the same every day. That’s why this is an ideal stay for 2-3 days to get used to Funchal and navigate yourself around. Also bear in mind the main street runs straight so some drivers will test their engines (and roaring may wake up light sleepers like myself).

The location is amazing, short walk from the Mercado and plenty of local restaurants/cafes but with peace and quiet environment. Rooms were clean and bright, everything was tidy and proper. It is a bit in an old-style/vintage accomodation and we really had a good time here - we were lucky to get an access to the 2nd building next to the one with reception/breakfast service.

I really loved it here. The place is close to everything, the room was cleaned daily and as a solo traveler I felt very safe. The host and his father were welcoming, offering directions how to reach there and what to visit and also had lovely chats during breakfast. Would definitely recommend it :)

The place could use a bit of renovation, and heating would be nice.

The hosts very kind and helpful, always asked if I needed anything. The location is perfect, very close to the centre and the beach, you can walk to almost everywhere, no need to take the bus. Also it's a great value for money. If you want to spend most of your time discovering Funchal and the area, it's a good choice.
