Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandLovely secluded tropical oasis on the slopes of Kilauea. Great location for exploring the island. I downloaded Google Maps of Hawaii so managed without phone or data when driving. Irene is a friendly, helpful host. I really enjoyed her eggs for breakfast!

United StatesNothing-
The area is amazing! This is a bed and breakfast but honestly it’s more like going to stay at an old friend’s place. If you want charming, and want to be right in the middle of the sounds of a rainforest- I went to sleep each night with the windows open to hear first hand what I would listen to on a app for sleeping. Beds are comfortable and I’m super picky! There is a little town nearby and Hilo is only like 30 mins away. We spent the short time we had here just driving around the island and taking photos. This was our first time on the big island and I can’t wait to come back!

SwitzerlandOur stay at the Tropic Inn was absolutely phenomenal. If you are looking for a quiet, secluded place in the rainforest away from the city, this is the perfect choice. Irene, the owner, is a fantastic host, making every aspect of our stay memorable. The room was spacious and clean, the beds comfortable. Irene's local tips were invaluable when exploring the island. The breakfast, made with fresh fruit from her tropical garden, Kona coffee, homemade jams and local produce, was a great start to each day. The location is ideal, near the last lava flow and convenient for exploring Volcano and Hilo National Park. The inn offers an authentic Hawaiian Big Island experience, surrounded by lush vegetation, giving it a Jurassic Park feel. Irene's passion for running this guesthouse is evident, making it a wonderful experience for her guests. The proximity to the 2018 lava flows adds a unique touch to the experience. The accommodations are not only affordable, but also provide a real opportunity to unplug and soak up nature. We stayed for 6 days, exploring the island by car, and would not consider staying anywhere else on the Big Island. I highly recommend it!

There was nothing not to like. If you are looking for a quiet, secluded get away in a rainforest away from the city, then this is exactly what you are looking for. The owner is very kind, and every aspect of our stay was absolutely phenomenal. I will stay here again and recommend it to all my friends and family!

CanadaFirst night we tough we would not be able to sleep because of the noise at night from the frog and birds (we think it was frogs)🤣. But we did get use to very quickly and they stop around midnight. And at the end, we found that funny
We have arrived very late, around 23h00. It is true that the place may look weird and very very backcountry when you get there at night but Irene was waiting for us and we where very welcome what a great place in the middle of the jungle🫣. You must take time to talk with Irene about what you want to visit, She will be helpfull.

NetherlandsThe entrance road is about 800m/0.5 mile and unsurfaced and passes two gates that need to be opened and closed each time one passes. To us it was fine but I can imagine that people driving an ordinary saloon car might have a little difficulty negotiating the entrance road. The private bathroom was not en-suite but across the little hallway.
A good bed & shower are, as always, the default necessities for a good stay. The owner was very helpful and the breakfast she served, with plenty of local fruits, delicious. She lend me a beach towel because I didn’t bring one myself. The accommodation is very secluded, in a very quiet corner of the island. The rare Hawaiian Hawk in the garden made for a nice surprise.

United StatesEverything was great.
The best thing about our stay was the host. She treats her guests like family. The place is ideally located to get the best of both worlds. You are in the middle of a tropical jungle, but also have easy access to beaches and the volcanic national park. I read one of the comments from a previous guest that the lady was awful. Our experience is that she is a wonderful lady. Other guests can vouch for this. My opinion is that this guy is a total moron.

GermanyNothing.. No, really. Nothing. We had tried to think of something we didn't like and couldn't come up with even one tiny thing.
Who wants to know what it's like to live on that island should take this chance to get to know this very active and lovely lady. To be part of the household including the cats and chickens was wonderful. Who's searching for party, has come to the wrong place. But you can find peace and quiet and just a perfect place to be.

SpainOnly 4 nights... way to short for Big Island!!!
We had a wonderful stay at the Tropic Inn! Irene, the owner, is an amazing host, you can really feel that for her running this B&B is a dream come true. Every morning she prepaired a delicious breakfast with fresh fruit from her tropical garden, Kona Coffee, homemade marmelades, juice etc. She also served other local products like bread and yogurt. She gave us a LOT of really good tips, as she knows the island like a true Hawaiian or maybe even better... The room was very big and clean, the beds were comfortable and the shared bathroom was also perfect. Towels were changed really often, as there is a lot of humidity, but there was no bad smell at all, which was great being in the middle of the jungle. You can park the car in front of the house (yes, you definitely need a car to move around!!!) and wifi was working really good. The Tropic Inn is close to the last lava flow, which ist very interesting to see ("end of the road" nearby...). It is a really good location to visit the Vulcano national park and Hilo, amongst others. We definitely recommend this accomodation and wouldn't want to stay elsewhere on Big Island (we know, we have to come back;-))
