Clean and big room - very traditional old Japanese style Ryokan; exactly what we have been looking for. Great location too. The staff was fantastic, providing us with tips for the neighbourhood and some interesting Japanese coffee jelly. There is free coffee, tea and water as well at all times. Be sure to reserve breakfast at least a day in advance. We missed it and unfortunately could not get a taste of it (though it looked fantastic).

If you are interested in experiencing more traditional Japanese hotel with tatami mats and sleeping on a futon, this is a good option for low price. Naturally it does not provide onsen and the very exotic Ryokan style food service. The owner is really nice. I can only form the most basic Japanese sentences and he does not speak a lot of English, but still we understood each other. Check-in and introductions for the room and the facilities was all done verbally. I only had to rely on a translator app when I requested a taxi to Shinagawa station during check-out. It is not a bad walk, but it was raining so I did not want to get myself and my luggage wet. Taxi fare was 1600 yen. If you are walking to the Ryokan from Shinagawa station, then I recommend planning your route to approach from the south. If you take the slightly smaller street towards the Gotanda Waterfront Plaza, the T-intersection at the end is a very good indicator you are very close by and do not need to worry about walking too far and missing your turn.

Situated in the Asakusa area, Ryokan Asakusa Shigetsu has a history of 70 years. The accommodation boasts a view of the Tokyo Skytree from its Hinoki wood bath. מיקום מושלם ממש על רחוב הקניות והמקדש, המיטות על ריצפת הטאטאמי נוחות מאוד, מקלחת מרווחת ונוחה. היחס של הצוות נעים, נענו לבקשות לשמירת מזוודות גם בהגעה וגם בעזיבה. האמבטיה החמה הייתה נהדרת.

מקום האירוח 寅ホテル 御徒町 TORA HOTEL Okachimachi ממוקם בטוקיו, במרחק של 200 מ' מChoen-ji Temple ו-300 מ' מTokaku-ji Temple, ומציע אירוח עם אינטרנט אלחוטי בחינם בכל רחבי מקום האירוח. There is a lift so no need to worry about carrying luggage. The room is spacious for 4 people. Everything is available from TV to kitchen cabinet to sofa to 4 comfortable thick beds to washing machine. Location is near to train station and bus stop but oddly enough the place is quiet at night so you can have peaceful sleep. This is a gem!

מקום האירוח Tokyo inn Sakura An נמצא בטוקיו, במרחק של 200 מ' מTokyo Origami Museum, וכולל אופניים ללא תשלום, חדרים ללא עישון ואינטרנט אלחוטי בחינם בכל רחבי מקום האירוח. We absolutely loved staying in this very authentic Japanese property! The place is small but everything is so beautifully arranged and organised that it felt much larger. My kids loved the bunk beds that are built into a cupboard in the wall - it was an adventure for them to sleep there! The fridge was stocked with authentic Japanese drinks and snacks which we enjoyed trying out. Everything was incredibly clean and well organised and the host was very attentive and welcoming. The location is also really good - just 10 minutes walk across the river to the Akasuka neighbourhood.

Situated in Tokyo, within 1.5 km of Sensoji Temple and 2.2 km of Tokyo Skytree, Ryokan Nakadaya offers accommodation with a shared lounge. If Japanese hospitality was a person, that would be Tatsuo-san. As the owner of a 90-year old ryokan, you can expect a traditional yet welcoming stay at this place from him. We arrived in August (peak summer period), but the rooms were super comfortable with air conditioning, traditional tatami mats and futons. Only watch out for the thin walls and creaky floorboards, as one would expect of an old building. There are 3 bathrooms to share between guests, but we didnt find it an issue during our stay as there are rarely people during our shower times. Location wise may be slightly further away from typical places like Shinjuku and Shibuya, but the Minami-senju line a 10 minute walk away poses no problem for travelling, especially if you want to visit Akihabara alongside a quick transit at Ueno station to other major JR lines. As others have pointed out, Tatsuo-san was the highlight of our trip. Hospitality aside, his knowledge as a local (and capability to speak fluent English) gave us so many recommendations that you wont be able to find elsewhere. We always find the opportunity to speak with him about places to visit and eat, which wasn’t hard at all as he always greeted us whenever we left and came back. If you are expecting a budget-friendly and non-touristy visit to Japan, this is the place for you. Arigatou gozaimasu, Tatsuo-san!!
