On a narrow peninsula protruding into Lake Garda, Sirmione is a wonderful town famed for its multi-turreted castle, Roman remains and hot springs.
The 13th-century lakeside castle makes quite an impressive sight as you cross its drawbridge to enter the old town beyond. From its walls there are lovely views across red-roofed buildings towards the trees hiding the ruins of a huge villa that belonged to 1st century BC Roman poet Catullus. Part of the complex included baths benefitting from the thermal waters, and the town still has a spa today on the opposite side of the promontory.
Nearby is the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore with its 15th-century frescoes, and the surrounding narrow, cobbled streets are home to stone buildings and several Sirmione hotels on Lake Garda. The majority of hotels are mid-range, but there are still a few 4 and 5-star hotels in Sirmione to choose from.
Booking.com also has lots of accommodation by the lake in the newer part of town, and its Lugana Vecchia area has a UNESCO World Heritage-listed prehistoric site.
To the west of Sirmione is the lakefront town of Desenzano del Garda, while to the east is Peschiera del Garda, close to the Gardaland and Canevaworld theme parks. The nearest airport is Verona Catullo Airport to the south-east.

It's a very pretty little town with a charming historical centre. There are some lovely restaurants and lots of opportunities for boat tours in the area.
It's better to arrive by boat or public transport as driving in the historical centre (to get to your hotel for example) is a nightmare. We have a Ford Focus and it was a tight fit through the narrow streets and all the crowds.
If you arrive by car be sure to get the permit at the entrance before the castle to drive in the centre - but better yet - park outside the historical centre.

Sirmione is quite a small place but with plenty of shops and bars and very pretty. There are a lot ferry's you can take to all over the Lake so never short of somewhere to visit. There is no supermarket in Sirmione but you can take a shuttlebus for 2 euros about 20 mins away where there is a small supermarket called coop.

Loved staying on the peninsula and the limited vehicles - not quite pedestrianised but close enough. Walked right to Jamaica Beach at the top, which was nice to visit. Lots of restaurants and cafes to choose from. Sometimes really busy when a tour party arrived - would recommend visiting out of season. We went early May and it was busy enough to have a vibe, but still able to walk around easily - bonus it was warm & sunny!

Great historic location, but extremely busy even in early May
thermal spas and mud treatments are excellent and must be tried
Lake Garda sunsets are beautiful
the castle is excellent
quieter north end of the island is worth exploring with some historic old churches
some great restaurants (Caruso's), but elsewhere waiters could be disinterested and unhelpful
great for ice cream!

It was great for the 4 nights we had there.
It was great for the 4 nights we had there. We arrived Wednesday and the town was not so busy, come Friday and Saturday it was busy and this was in May.
Walk up into the middle of the spur to find all the restaurants, which were ideally priced. I was surprised as I expected them to be expensive but most were very reasonably. The ones with decks by the water were a little more expensive but the view was great.
Great food and lovely Lugana white win.
Perfect location.
We left Vetona and arrived in Sirmione here by bus only 3.60 each dropped us off near to the hotel.
Minute we arrived, the staff were amazing and we could not fault this as throughout our 3 day stay amazing.
Breakfast was amazing.
We met the owner...we can see this place going far.
Rooms in the new building were on high standard.
Should be a 4star.
Half and hour to 45 mins to Central part of Sirmione walking wise.
Definitely a fantastic place to stay.
Sirmione....beautiful part of Lake Garda.
Thanks for a super experience. The room with a view of Lake Garda and the fine finish was great. The staff were very nice and helpful. The guys at the bar made such good mojitos. Breakfast is in a class of its own, not what we are used to in Italy, so very good. The bikes that we were allowed to borrow for free to cycle the 2 kilometers to the old town were great. Free parking for the car also good. So we are only positive and will be happy to come back if we are in Sirmione again.
Excellent location in the centre of Sirmione. The views from our room were beautiful, we had a terrace that looked out over the lake. Room was spacious, comfortable bed and a fridge. Great buffet breakfast with a selection of breads, pastries, cheeses, eggs and fruit etc. We ate at the hotel restaurant twice during our stay, lovely food and an incredible view over Lake Garda. Staff were super friendly and helpful - we'll be returning!
Splendid place to stay in the beautiful Sirmione. We had a very spacious modernly furnished room in an annex building with a big terrace and terrific view of lake Garda. Sirmione old town and the castle are in walking distance. The restaurant is just the perfect place for a sunset dinner. We surely would go back to Villa Pioppi for a longer holiday so we can properly enjoy the two very nice swimming pools too 😊
Everything was perfect: the room, cleanliness, service, place, personel. To say more, the restaurant exceeded all our expectations🙂 The food and wine that was the real fiesta for our senses of Sirmione and Italy😍
We took the bikes, which were for free, and went to the Old Town. Perfect city with its perfect place to stay for our family: Hotel Riel.
One of the best stays ever, never that I received such a hospitality and care from the host. I am yet to find a single flaw of this B&B. We felt like in a 5 star hotel with freshly made breakfast which was absolutely mouth watering and thoughtful. I do not only recommend this place but suggest if you want an absolutely amazings stay in Sirmione.
All I can say is WOW! Small very clean modern hotel in the heart of Sirmione. The service from Taniana who is the general manager was absoletely FANTASTIC. The included breakfast was also excellent and easily the best we had in our 17 day Northern Italy trip. The room was very modern and the bed very comfortable.
Everything perfect. Parking in front of the building, In a quite zone and close to the lake Garda and all sightseeings. Apartment is big, clean, everything in is almost new and well equiped (refrigerator, microwave, coffee and wasch machine, ...). It's also pet friendly. Our host Lara was very helpful.
Beautiful home with an even better host! Breakfast each morning was delicious, the lake was a very short walk away with a nice grassy area to lay out and we borrowed bikes to explore Sirmione and the stunning Jamaica beach. One of the best places we stayed in Italy!! Cannot recommend enough
Our experience was outstanding, given we made a last-minute booking. The owners’ friendliness and commitment to their hotel were evident. The vegan breakfast buffet was delightful, and the central location in Sirmione made everything accessible while maintaining a peaceful ambience.
I loved this hotel. It has a beautiful view to the lake Garda, the staff is amazing (I even received a welcome gift!), friendly and always helpful, from the reception to the ladies from breakfast room.
Everyone made me feel welcome.
And the town of Sirmione is a jewel :-)
Breakfast was ok. Room and hotel generally clean. Location is not really the best choice, but hotel has its own parking free of charge. To Sirmione old town takes 15 minutes walking. Staff was very polite, welcoming and spoke German, english and Italian.
Wonderful hotel! Very clean, modern, free parking. Extremely nice hotel owner, Tonya. The breakfast was very good- eggs, fresh paistries and good coffee. Great location - about 5 minutes by car to Sirmione centre.
The area around the hotel is a good base to start from, within easy walk of Sirmione and ferry services. Good to have the option of the spa and beach area.
Helpful in booking the taxis to and from the hotel.
Rosa and Valentino were extremely kind and helpful. The apartment is gorgeous, it is modern with everything in it to make for a comfortable stay. It has a stunning view from the balcony of Lake Garda.
