I had an amazing time here! The accommodation was absolutely exceptional and far exceeded my expectations. Everything was spotless, tastefully decorated, and had a luxurious feel. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, and the staff were extremely kind, professional, and helpful throughout my stay. The restaurant was another highlight — the traditional dishes were incredibly tasty, fresh, and beautifully presented. A real culinary experience that added so much value to my trip. This place is a real gem and I would recommend it without hesitation. I will definitely come back!

FAQs about hotels in Lombardy

Sophisticated and Serene

The diverse region of Lombardy touches the 3 largest Italian lakes: Lake Garda, Lake Maggiore and Lake Como. Their beautiful shores house many Lombardy luxury hotels and even more luxurious celebrity residences.

The rich and famous also flock to Milan, one of the world’s fashion capitals, where designer boutiques are found alongside La Scala opera house and the iconic San Siro football stadium. To the south, Pavia is best known for its elaborate monastery, while Monza to the north-east hosts the F1 Italian Grand Prix and World Superbike Championship.

Nearby Bergamo is the hub for cheap flights to Milan and it also has a historic old town, while to its east is peaceful Lake Iseo. A smaller lake is located by Varese, and artificial lakes also almost entirely surround the important medieval city of Mantua, seat of the Gonzaga court during the Renaissance.

Brescia to the north-west has monuments dating back to Roman times, while Cremona to the south-west has an impressive cross-shaped cathedral and huge belltower. This beautiful city is on the Po, Italy’s longest river which forms part of the Lombardy border.

We stayed two nights, and the weather wasn’t the best, so we didn't use the pool, but it was large and seemed super clean. The bed was comfortable, but the sofa bed wasn't so comfortable. The shower was wonderful and had great pressure, and the rooms had spacious balconies. The hotel is simple but had a good selection of drinks. We loved the included meals, too; they were quite varied and delicious. The hotel is a bit far from the center (25min walking), but there's a free hotel shuttle that takes you there. Despite the cold weather, we went to the private beach, which is beautiful and has sun loungers, in summer it will be wonderful!

A Truly Special Stay! Our stay at Casa Sull’Albero was absolutely memorable and special! From the moment we arrived, we felt a sense of warmth and coziness that made it the perfect place to relax. The location and scenery were breathtaking—waking up to such stunning views was a dream. One of the highlights was the breakfast experience; it was unlike anything we’ve had before! The unique way it was presented and the thoughtful touches made it extra special. Everything about this place, from the atmosphere to the hospitality, was simply amazing. Very nice and cozy city, very ancient, plenty of old churches and others structures. But city is dirty, almost walls of the buildings in graffiti, bad parking, narrow pedestrian and the car or moto parked on. Especially in center of the city.

I use it often when coming to Italy.

I use it often when coming to Italy. Good airport, bags arrived on the belt before us and passport control was NOT a problem. Friends have recommended it as a good place to visit and I have stayed in the 'old town' a few times and it is a typical 'quaint' small Italian town. Good place to visit but also a good place in order to access Northern Italy, good for the lakes and the Mille Miglia and can get to Venice, Florence, Sienna without too much trouble if you rent a car. We have driven to St Moritz to ski and it was cheaper and easier than flying into a Swiss airport. We came a day early, took in Bergamo and then drove up to Switzerland for 8 days of skiing and will return to Bergamo for a relaxing night, flying out the next day without any rush or stress.

Amazing views!! Boat ride to Bellagio was great!! Views of the snowcapped mountains from Bellagio were awesome!! The town of Como itself was a little too urban. We went to a local restaurant on a side street and was greeted by a homeless man knocking on my car window, begging for money. We gave him our leftovers on the way out and he still continued to follow us and ask for money. I highly recommend Hotel Villa Flori. Make sure you get a lake view room. We got lucky and were upgraded to the lake view room. I had thought every room faced the water, but they have street view rooms. Which I’m sure are loud as the street is so close and the view is of a rock wall.

Staying in Case Nuove for an overnight stop when arriving at Malpensa and continuing by plane or train the following day is extremely convenient. It’s very close to the airport, and the availability of airport transfers is a big plus, especially when going back and forth to the terminal. By car, it’s about an hour to Milano Centrale, while the train from Malpensa takes around 30 minutes, making onward travel easy and flexible.

Be careful with parking.

Be careful with parking. Reading signs does not guarantee that you are safe. If you need to contact local police, then it's nearly impossible to reach them over the phone. You have to pay "tourist tax" - extra fee for being foreigner and not speaking Italian.

We visited the first week of November so it was not overcrowded. Don’t think it would be good during the height of the travel season. That said, we were not aware that the ferries stopped running completely in November. So if you visit them and want to see other towns around the lake having a car would be helpful. But we made the best of it by visiting the thermal baths and spa in Sirmione instead.

The main reason you would stay in Vizzola Ticino is because you arrived on a late flight and you cannot get transport to Milan or you are flying out the next day and you would like to be close to the Airport just in case there are disruptions on the day of your flight - as there were in our case with a train strike. There are a lot of hotels in the area of varying standards. We stayed at the Villa Malpensa and can highly recommend it.
