Excellent location for Bernina express, 2 minute walk from the station. Staff were friendly and welcoming The room was amazing. Paid for a superior but was upgraded to the suite for free. All the rooms looked nice though, saw a couple being cleaned as we were checking out, so any room would be nice. Breakfast included was a nice touch.

The hotel is absolutely perfect in terms of location, cleanliness, furnishings, friendly staff, and the best and most varied breakfast we have seen in a hotel in Italy. The presence of an elevator, even if only for one floor, as well as the option to leave your luggage, are an additional bonus.

We had a fantastic stay! Upon arrival, we got a room upgrade, and when we mentioned it was my mother’s birthday, the hotel added free breakfast and greeted us with the glass of Prosecco — such a lovely gesture. The staff was exceptional: super friendly, always smiling, and ready to help with anything — taxis, restaurant bookings, you name it. The hotel is new, clean, and beautifully furnished. Breakfast had a wide selection (good cheeses, meats, ricotta). Overall, a wonderful experience and a great start to our trip. We’d definitely come back!

FAQs about hotels in Lombardy

Sophisticated and Serene

The diverse region of Lombardy touches the 3 largest Italian lakes: Lake Garda, Lake Maggiore and Lake Como. Their beautiful shores house many Lombardy luxury hotels and even more luxurious celebrity residences.

The rich and famous also flock to Milan, one of the world’s fashion capitals, where designer boutiques are found alongside La Scala opera house and the iconic San Siro football stadium. To the south, Pavia is best known for its elaborate monastery, while Monza to the north-east hosts the F1 Italian Grand Prix and World Superbike Championship.

Nearby Bergamo is the hub for cheap flights to Milan and it also has a historic old town, while to its east is peaceful Lake Iseo. A smaller lake is located by Varese, and artificial lakes also almost entirely surround the important medieval city of Mantua, seat of the Gonzaga court during the Renaissance.

Brescia to the north-west has monuments dating back to Roman times, while Cremona to the south-west has an impressive cross-shaped cathedral and huge belltower. This beautiful city is on the Po, Italy’s longest river which forms part of the Lombardy border.

Unforgettable! Having stayed in numerous hotels around the world, I can confidently say that I have never come across such an extraordinary level of service: 1. Geographically, it is situated in a breathtakingly green and beautiful area right next to a large lake (lake major). This location makes it an undeniable oasis of relaxation, and it also offers easy access to the islands in the lake. 2. The hotel itself boasts impeccably maintained green spaces that are truly exemplary. Every photo I took could easily be framed and displayed on a wall. My room was exceptionally beautiful, and when I opened the window, I was greeted with a scene that can only be described as a living and dynamic masterpiece of beauty. 3. While the hotel may not be a modern building, its Italian identity adds a delightful charm to the overall experience. I was glad that it wasn't modern because it allowed me to feel the authenticity of an Italian family-run business. 4. The hotel manager, fluent in English and French languages, (I don't know whether he likes to mention his name here or not) can only be described as an angel. I have never encountered such exceptional service in any of my previous trips. Not only did the staff adhere to all hotel etiquette, but the hotel manager also provided unwavering support in every situation that arose, treating me like a close friend. They went above and beyond, from giving a ride and providing me with printed maps for train routes to lending me a jacket on a cold day. Such unique and extraordinary hospitality is something I had never witnessed or heard of before.

Excellent hotel in a perfect location on the side of the lake. I contacted the hotel prior to the holiday and they booked us into the spa in the hotel next door where we had a great afternoon in the private spa followed by a massage. We ate in the restaurant next door on both evenings of our stay, the first a fine dining menu and the second time we had pizza. Both were great and the staff were friendly. We were in walking distance down to the lake and enjoyed a walk around the lake on a footpath which was easy to follow. Breakfast was also excellent with lots of choice and fresh food.

Old town and castle area were lovely in the evening , with well priced restaurants , shops and bakeries. Good bus service for getting around the city and the train services were very reliable. Three day local travel ticket for the region costs €35 which is great value if you are visiting the surrounding area including Milan, Lake Como, Brescia etc.

Como has a bit of everything.

Como has a bit of everything. If you like seclusion, you've got it. If you like a bit of buzz about a place, it's got it. If you're looking for a place to explore further afield from, you've got great train and bus connections to other parts of northern Italy and Switzerland. Plus, if you're into football, the Como 1907 team are worth watching in a stadium that is probably the most scenic I've ever seen.

We stayed for 3 nights, plenty of time to see the old town, take a boat trip, and eat some fabulous food. We hired bikes for the day and had a lovely cycle alone the lakeside. Would have liked longer? always but on out way back to Bergamo (well worth a visit) we took the scenic route detouring to lake Idro which was equally beautiful but quieter. Will we go back? yes.

It is a lovely place with spectaular views. It was very, very busy though. The streets were jammed and big groups of 'cyclists' pushing bikes through the narrow streets added to the chaos. And this was April, I hate to think what it would be like in high season.

We really liked Desenzano del Garda and it was so easy to move around to other places. Transport options ideal with Ferry terminal only a 5 minute walk and buses on the main road close to our B & B. The train/bus station could be reached in about 15 minutes walk. There is a huge amount of restaurants all offering lovely food and prices were reasonable.

The base town for the train ride to St Moritz.

The base town for the train ride to St Moritz. We would recommend taking the normal red train rather than the Bernina Express as the windows open to take better photographs and it is cheaper. Also you can get on and off at the different vilages on the way. Sit on the left hand side going up for the best views.

This is the little hidden gem of Italy!

This is the little hidden gem of Italy! A day or two is more than enough for the center, but if you are able to, please rent a car and go beyond to the lakeside villages! I mean, a car (or a bicycle) is a must if you want to go beyond the old town, because, sadly, public transportation is poorer than in most European cities I have visited. But the old town is amazing and you can have great city views from the castle (even from its parking lot!)
