4* hotel with 5* service. Beautiful atmosphere, an excellent restaurant with great breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and exceptionally friendly and attentive staff. The room was cozy, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped with everything you need for a pleasant stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel, especially if being directly next to the lake is not a priority for you.

FAQs about hotels in Lombardy

Sophisticated and Serene

The diverse region of Lombardy touches the 3 largest Italian lakes: Lake Garda, Lake Maggiore and Lake Como. Their beautiful shores house many Lombardy luxury hotels and even more luxurious celebrity residences.

The rich and famous also flock to Milan, one of the world’s fashion capitals, where designer boutiques are found alongside La Scala opera house and the iconic San Siro football stadium. To the south, Pavia is best known for its elaborate monastery, while Monza to the north-east hosts the F1 Italian Grand Prix and World Superbike Championship.

Nearby Bergamo is the hub for cheap flights to Milan and it also has a historic old town, while to its east is peaceful Lake Iseo. A smaller lake is located by Varese, and artificial lakes also almost entirely surround the important medieval city of Mantua, seat of the Gonzaga court during the Renaissance.

Brescia to the north-west has monuments dating back to Roman times, while Cremona to the south-west has an impressive cross-shaped cathedral and huge belltower. This beautiful city is on the Po, Italy’s longest river which forms part of the Lombardy border.

Grand Hotel Tremezzo was absolutely outstanding. We felt like royalty from our arrival until our reluctant departure. It was first class, 5 star luxury 24/7. We spent 3 days & 2 glorious nights in an upgraded Terrace Garden Suite. This enormous 2 room, 2 bathroom suite accommodated our 17 year old daughter in a queen sofa bed, with a beautiful garden deck outside, & side deck with panoramic Lake Como views. It was private, palatial, & had every conceivable bathroom accessory, fully stocked fridge & pantry with snacks, & multiple Nespresso pods for whatever your coffee preference may be. The King bed was super comfortable, as were the fluffy soft towels & bathrobes. There even was a custom sewing kit with safety pins, multiple coloured threads, buttons etc amongst the multiple accessories inside the second wardrobe. Breakfast was an indulgent affair, which was leisurely, well staffed, and honestly the biggest choice & range of breakfast options imaginable. On top of this, there was the option of ordering whatever one desired, cooked to order. My personal favourite was the cereal options, (crazy I know) with so many additional condiments to add - it was like being in a candy store. I cannot even begin to rave about the enormous cheese options, as well as numerous spreads, fruits, hams & delicious pastries to die for. I thought we would skip lunch given the 7 course breakfasts, but with so many restaurant options & jaw dropping views to enjoy, we managed to wine & dine the afternoons & evenings away in awe of the ever changing views & absolute beauty of the hotel. The fitness centre is across 3 floors, with cardio equipment first, strength training 2nd, & the best equipped functional fitness I've ever seen on the 3rd floor. It was the perfect way to try & reverse the indulgences from the previous days. We also made good use of the heated outdoor lap pool, & were even brought fresh hot tea by the...

Our stay at this hotel in Italy was without a doubt the highlight of our trip with friends. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome with their warmth and hospitality. The rooms were spotless, spacious, and offered beautiful views that made every morning special. What really stood out was the attention to detail and personalized service—nothing ever felt too much to ask. The location was perfect, with easy access to the lake, local restaurants, and evening walks, which added so much charm to our stay. Breakfast was abundant and delicious, giving us the perfect start to our days. After traveling around Italy and staying at different places, we all agreed this hotel truly offered the best experience of our trip. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area—whether with friends, family, or even for a relaxing break. We will definitely come back!

Great historic sites such as the Scaligeri castle and Grottoes of Catullus (ruins of an 1st C Roman Villa). We took a 25 min boat ride around the peninsula for 12 euros each person. I also enjoyed hiking along the shale rock beach at the north part of island. We visited the old town by foot. Shopping is touristy there but there are many nice restaurants. Best meals were lunch at Girasole and dinner at Le Gardenie (Villa Cortine).

This was our first time visiting Lake Como (we were a group of 8 adults). Staying in Como City was great as we traveled from the states and this was out first stop on a two week trip. We loved Como City, enjoyed a private boat tour of the lake (we got to spend some time in Bellagio and Vorenno). We all agree we'd love to go back!

Bergamo is a fantastic city split between the old walled town (Citta Alta) and newer town (Citta Bassa). The transport network is excellent, the bus from the airport is 15 minutes and buses through the town are very regular. It was very easy to get the funicular to the old town and if you walk a bit further there is a second funicular for even better views over Bergamo. Buy a 24/ 48 hour travel pass for unlimited travel around the city from the ticket machines at the bus stop- you scan this every time you use transport. There are plenty of options for food, drink and coffee. We will definitely go back!

Desenzano del Garda is an absolute gem and the perfect...

Desenzano del Garda is an absolute gem and the perfect gateway town for a family vacation on Lake Garda! We visited as a family of three (with our 3.5-year-old daughter) in mid-August during the busy Ferragosto holiday, and it exceeded all expectations. The town is incredibly easy to access by train from Verona or Milan, and the station sits just a short, downhill walk from the lakefront. The old harbor area is incredibly charming, filled with beautiful boats, friendly swans, and wonderful lakeside cafes that are perfect for a relaxed family lunch. For parents traveling with young children, Spiaggia Desenzanino is a fantastic local pebble beach right in town where toddlers can safely splash in the crystal-clear water (just remember to bring water shoes!). It also serves as a main hub for the regional ferry and bus networks, making it a highly strategic base for day trips around the lake. Even during the peak summer holiday rush, the atmosphere felt festive, welcoming, and safe. Highly recommend Desenzano to any travelers or families visiting northern Italy!

Bormio and the surrounding villages are very family-friendly, with plenty of outdoor parks for children. The thermal spas and swimming pools were definitely the highlight of the trip. A drive up to Stelvio was a lovely way to cool off during the summer heat. Some of the hikes and paths along the river felt a bit too manicured, though, we would have liked to be closer to the nature in parts.

Tirano is at the end of the Bernina Express, and is a place that we could have explored for much longer had we known in advance that there was so much to see and do there! There are remnants of the Medieval wall, tower and church at one end of the town, and the breathtaking Santuary of the Madonna at the other (with an even older church perched on the hill above it). There are wonderful piazas all around town with lovely cafes and restaurants, and we found food to be high quality and reasonably priced. We missed seeing the Salis Palace because we arrived after 5pm on a Saturday and it is closed on Sunday, but from the outside it looked amazing! Next time we will arrive earlier and stay longer!
