Colourful Capital of Sun and Shopping
The Gran Canaria capital, Las Palmas offers everything that the Canaries stand for: year-round sun, fantastic beaches and great nightlife. However, the largest city of this volcanic island group is more than just a beach resort - its mix of traditional and modern makes it stand out from the crowd.
Colourful Colonial façades line Calle Triana, a top shopping street, while the out-of-town Las Arenas shopping complex is much more contemporary in design. The El Muelle shopping centre is near Parque Santa Catalina and the surrounding restaurants, bars and clubs are focal points of Las Palmas nightlife, together with the historic Vegueta district.
Vegueta is also home to Santa Ana cathedral, best viewed from the palm-lined square which houses the Canary Island Museum. Around the corner is the Casa Museo de Colón, where Columbus stayed en route to America. No doubt he sailed from huge Puerto de la Luz whose numerous vessels are guarded by a lighthouse and stone castle.
On the opposite side of the promontory is long Las Canteras beach, lined by a promenade providing great mountain views in both directions. The 5-star hotels by the beach are just some of Booking.com’s Las Palmas accommodation options, alongside cheap guest houses and apartments, all linked by coastal road to Gran Canaria Airport.

The city has a major car problem and getting anywhere is a nightmare. Walking from Las Canteras to the old town was not pleasant to say the least. Prepare for busy streets filled with car fumes and stinking of dog piss. There are parking garages, but beware, they can be very narrow and steep. On a plus side, the city center is quite picturesque and there are many cafés and restaurants, both at the old town and around Las Canteras. Although you might want to sit inside, unless you prefer the piss stench. Poema del Mar would be migh recommended attraction, the aquarium is truly stunning.AlžbětaCzech Republic - Scored 1010

Great island that has so much to offer in terms of activities, food and culture. If you plan hiking trips I recommend checking with the town hall first; some parks/monuments might be closed due to the weather conditions (heat or others). Las Palmas, as a city break is a nice place to spend three days or so. Maybe two if you enjoy rushing around on holiday. The old town is its nicest part arguably and there are plenty of museums and other touristic attractions to keep you occupied. Bus travel is really cheap and convenient by using the 'Mi Guagua' app, available on the apple and google app stores. Parts of the city can be a bit ugly and run down but that's the same with any capital city. It comes part and parcel of travel and exploration.

This was my second visit to Las Palmas.
This was my second visit to Las Palmas. My first visit in October 2023 was only a couple of days and I enjoyed the sites and restaurants within Las Palmas area very much. This time I had more time and decided to do two island tours plus a walk around the Botanical Gardens and time on the beach. One of my favorite brunch spots is Fresquito Brunch and Coffee. Many things are within walking distance, but the bus system makes it very easy to get around if needed. There are also many taxis available if you prefer. This time I used the bus back to the airport and it was very simple and much more cost efficient and I will definitely use it in the future when arriving and leaving.JudithUnited States - Scored 8.08.0

The car park at the end of the road is under the beach area and was £16 for 24hrs. Shops for groceries are also 2mins away.
