Surrounded by the crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea, the Spanish town of Peñíscola is a fortified seaport in the Castellón province. This attractive destination is a well-liked tourist resort thanks to its unique position on a rock and the gorgeous beaches.
Home to an iconic lighthouse and an impressive old town, the historic medieval city of Peñíscola will amaze you with its unique beauty and variety of outdoor activities. Apart from historical sites, it features wonderful beaches like Basseta Beach, the pebbled Argilaga Cove and the sandy Norte Beach.
Situated on the highest point of the city, the Castle used to be the residence of Pope Benedict XIII. The filming location of the epic movie ‘El Cid’, Peñíscola is about 145 km from the city of Valencia. The fort has three different entrances, built during different periods from the 15th-century until 1754.
Travellers can walk along the promenade area, wander around the green botanic park with the palm trees or visit a restaurant to savour local fish stew and shellfish. Booking.com will help you choose from a variety of hotels, apartments, guest houses and campsites in Peñíscola and the nearby cities of Alcossebre, Benicarló and Vinarós.

Good place to take a vacation, but… the late night or night...
Good place to take a vacation, but… the late night or night life is kinda dead. This is the 2nd time we come here. For relaxation and resting is the perfect place, not too much young people around that is also a fact maybe why the nightlife is dead, but theres Barcelona pretty close if you want something more for the night. What I would like to see in the future if we will come back some more pubs and fun places to play some pool or darts.. or some card games. Restaurants are everywhere and even if there more then 100 they almost serve the same food, which also is not a complain cause we love the food from here but it would be better to have more variety.
Overall we got what we wanted, relaxation, rest and warm sunny weather. It was good fun. I would definetly recommend it for someone who have never been here before!

We really enjoyed our two day stay.
We really enjoyed our two day stay. We walked around each of the areas and visited the castle and church. We thought the castle was an excellent experience - it is huge and very well maintained and excellent value for money. We were half board in our hotel but there are better places to eat out. We had a tasty lunch right by the sea. All staff were friendly smiley and helpful. We loved it.

We totally fell in love with Peñiscola, it has such a lovely feel to it, very friendly, great beaches. We ate in a pizzeria on the sea front, great views. It’s easy to walk to the castle area, where you’ll also find lots of little local shops for your souvenirs, a treasure trove of discovery

The old town is great for spending a few days in - Book one...
The old town is great for spending a few days in - Book one of the top two rooms at Dios Esta Bien B&B as then you have a great place in the old town from which to explore with great food & hosts, as well as being able to get away from the crowds by retreating to your own private terrace which then gives you access to the roof terrace. The hostel does not have a lift, but on the plus side, it avoids walking up and down the hill if you are not staying in the old town. The rest of Peñíscola is a big and well laid out resort - We were fortunate to be there just before Easter when it was quieter, but it does get very busy during the holiday season, so pick your time if only spending a few days here. The food and drinks at the B&B are very good and we can highly recommend the restaurant La Taverneta de Sant Roc just down the same street - their T-bone steak was amazing and they were charming hosts. Personally, the whole resort is a bit too big for us when considering a holiday, but everyone should visit and spend a few days in the old town - it’s got a real buzz and vibe about it, and best time to go would be before and after main summer holiday season unless you like crowds

I most liked visiting the castle and the old town...
I most liked visiting the castle and the old town surrounding the castle. This is well worth a visit. The town has great beaches, but there are many shops and restaurants closed during the wintertime.
Location of Hey Peniscola hotel was perfect for us - it was on the beach (the view from the room was spectacular) and around three kilometres from the Peniscola old town (just percect for the evening walk). We arrived by the train, taxi from Peniscola-Penicarlo train station to the hotel was around 16-17€. The beach in front of the hotel was awesome. We also liked the VIP-pool which was only for the hotel customers.
Everything was perfect. The staff were brilliant. Miguel and Co really know their stuff when it comes to hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel was absolutely spotless and our room was very comfortable. The location is brilliant. Just metres from beaches and next door to some very nice tapas bars and restaurants. We spent 7 nights there. We wish we could’ve stayed for another month!
This hotel was so good, right near the castle, the staff were lovely and the place was spotless. We had the nicest room with a sea view and the attention to detail so 100%. If I return to Peniscola again I would definitely stay here than anywhere else.
I loved the location, just at the heart of Peñiscola at walking distance of the castle, the seaside, and lots of restaurants.
Also, I forgot an item in the room and the hotel staff were great at getting it sent back to me.
