If you want a better choice of restaurants and shops close by I would recommend Mount Maunganui just the other side of the water a lot more going on here in the evenings and more choice of good restaurants

Good roads, easy to get around (no problems using gps maps) Saturday markets, fresh seafood, close to shopping centre. Our function was catered and the food was amazing. Short walk for evening swim at the beach.
Close to other townships eg: Katikati.

The CBD seems alright, can be explored on foot.
The CBD seems alright, can be explored on foot. The highlight of our trip was Mt Maunganui. The Mount Hotpools was wonderful (pricey though), beautiful tiles, water and view. And the stretch of the Maunganui beach was just beautiful. We picked one far away from the centre (and towards Papamoa) where there was lifeguard, and truly enjoyed the waves for hours. It a great place for families who love spending time in the open water.

It is a travel destination that I definitely want to visit at least once a year.
I would like to recommend that you climb Mount Manganui and take a hot spring bath in the salt springs.
I can't forget the size and taste of Copenhagen ice cream across from the salt springs.
Playing in the water or walking on the beach are healing points that cannot be missed.
Cost-effectiveness of accommodation is one of the most disappointing aspects of most travel destinations.

Beautiful looking place, great climate, but a lot of blatant racism. Lots of indigenous artwork around city was vandalised. A lot of scowls from people when speaking re reo Māori (even with basic greetings).

There are plenty of bars and places to eat, the city is pleasant enough although access to the harbour is limited and the whole place is overshadowed by its proximity to Mt Maunganui and its fabulous beaches.
This is an old motel. Despite that the room was nice and clean. The reception lady was very welcoming. Its not an expensive motel and you can see the age from the the wall/ furniture. But I found it good comparing to the price they charge.
Next to motorway but did not have any problem with the noise where some reviews mentioned about the noise from cars.
I rated 7 not because it is bad. Rating 10 is for the hotels/ motels with higher/more facilities. Comparing everything I felt it can go for 7 with its limitations.
On arrival we felt at home. The cleanliness of the Bungalow was outstanding. Better than any accommodation we have ever had in the past with our vehicle right on our door step undercover.
The host was welcoming, friendly and helpful.
Honestly a wonderful, quiet, comfortable, relaxing stay which was very affordable. Given another opportunity to stay in Tauranga we definitely will book in here.
Thank you so very much for having us stay and enjoy your piece of paradise.
Friendly enviroment & the units are very tidy & always up to standard with the cleanliness always makes the stay welcoming. The outdoor pool & private spa is very good value that deserves to be put to good use every time we stay. The staff & the cleaners are very helpful & always show respect to guests along with lovely smiles all round. Mjy son & I have stayed here a few times & is always priority if in Tauranga. God bless...Ataahua
The view from the room of the sea and scenery was lovely, the weather was also perfect, which helps, the hotel was very close to The Strand in Tauranga and within walking distance if you wanted to head out in the evening. The bed was so comfortable and the air con was excellent. This hotel was also very clean and I would certainly come back here again.
Host Shawn was very friendly and responsive. The guest Handbook in the unit was very helpful in terms of where to eat and what to see around Tauranga. The breakfast provided was all good, including milk, cereals, yogurts, spread, fruits, coffee and tea and etc.. It really feels like home. My 18 months old enjoy walking around and exploring the house.
great location on the water and two big kitchen/lounge areas which were balconies facing the lake. A very amiable place to hang out and enjoy the beauty of Tauranga and perhaps even make a friend or two. the place is older—even historic, perhaps—but seems well maintained. Staff member was EXTREMELY nice and helpful with directions to Mount Maunganui
The night trains are actually quite loud and disruptive. I appreciate these are on your comments, so accept noise. But the sound limiting windows make no difference to be fair. Next trip, I would opt for else where unless you are cheaper. At 280 with parking, but distributed sleep, i could have stayed at trinity wharf or mount or a few airbnbs.
Super welcoming, super family friendly, everybody I saw and met were happy, obviously to begin with on arrival you're welcomed, and it got happier after that, beautiful facilities, super convenient location for EVERYTHING, SUPER VALUE FOR YOUR MONEY, you will be surprised, take a leap, not EVERYTHING that seems cheap IS
Location, layout but most of all the staff! Our needs had changed between booking and arrival and they accommodated us well. Our new option was slightly cheaper than what we had booked and there was no issue with that. Very thoughtful and helpful receptionist who we’d love to deal with again!
Good location in Tauranga CBD. Close to waterfront and easy access to roads in an out. An old post office and a nice looking building from the outside. Some nice touches in the rooms as part of converting the building to a hotel. Onsite car parking
My husband and were in Tauranga for a wedding the same day we checked in the lovely lady at reception made sure there was a room for us to have for early check in at no extra cost to us. Top quality service
This wasn't like a normal hotel. It's uniqueness was very cool. The decor was great. It was clean and well kept. It was in a good location with restaurants, bars, and the water within walking distance.
