Lake Views from Every Angle
On a narrow peninsula protruding into Lake Garda, Sirmione is a wonderful town famed for its multi-turreted castle, Roman remains and hot springs.
The 13th-century lakeside castle makes quite an impressive sight as you cross its drawbridge to enter the old town beyond. From its walls there are lovely views across red-roofed buildings towards the trees hiding the ruins of a huge villa that belonged to 1st century BC Roman poet Catullus. Part of the complex included baths benefitting from the thermal waters, and the town still has a spa today on the opposite side of the promontory.
Nearby is the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore with its 15th-century frescoes, and the surrounding narrow, cobbled streets are home to stone buildings and several Sirmione hotels on Lake Garda. The majority of hotels are mid-range, but there are still a few 4 and 5-star hotels in Sirmione to choose from.
Booking.com also has lots of accommodation by the lake in the newer part of town, and its Lugana Vecchia area has a UNESCO World Heritage-listed prehistoric site.
To the west of Sirmione is the lakefront town of Desenzano del Garda, while to the east is Peschiera del Garda, close to the Gardaland and Canevaworld theme parks. The nearest airport is Verona Catullo Airport to the south-east.

It's a very pretty little town with a charming historical centre. There are some lovely restaurants and lots of opportunities for boat tours in the area. It's better to arrive by boat or public transport as driving in the historical centre (to get to your hotel for example) is a nightmare. We have a Ford Focus and it was a tight fit through the narrow streets and all the crowds. If you arrive by car be sure to get the permit at the entrance before the castle to drive in the centre - but better yet - park outside the historical centre.Cas29Italy - 10Scored 10

Sirmione is quite a small place but with plenty of shops and bars and very pretty. There are a lot ferry's you can take to all over the Lake so never short of somewhere to visit. Loved staying on the peninsula and the limited vehicles - not quite pedestrianised but close enough. Walked right to Jamaica Beach at the top, which was nice to visit. Lots of restaurants and cafes to choose from. Sometimes really busy when a tour party arrived - would recommend visiting out of season. Great historic location, but extremely busy even in early May thermal spas and mud treatments are excellent and must be tried Lake Garda sunsets are beautiful the castle is excellent quieter north end of the island is worth exploring with some historic old churches some great restaurants (Caruso's), but elsewhere waiters could be disinterested and unhelpful great for ice cream!

It was great for the 4 nights we had there.
It was great for the 4 nights we had there. We arrived Wednesday and the town was not so busy, come Friday and Saturday it was busy and this was in May. Walk up into the middle of the spur to find all the restaurants, which were ideally priced. I was surprised as I expected them to be expensive but most were very reasonably. The ones with decks by the water were a little more expensive but the view was great. Great food and lovely Lugana white win.DDavidGermany

There was a wide selection of delicious croissants, cakes and freshly squeezed juices. Parking: it is obviously cramped to drive into the old town, but there is parking inside the area in front of the hotel. The staff were very nice and helpful. The guys at the bar made such good mojitos. Breakfast is in a class of its own, not what we are used to in Italy, so very good. The bikes that we were allowed to borrow for free to cycle the 2 kilometers to the old town were great. Free parking for the car also good. So we are only positive and will be happy to come back if we are in Sirmione again.

We had 2 rooms and the hotel managed to book us in the same floor as requested. The rooms were very clean, the breakfast was mixed and well served. the location of the hotel is right next to a bus station leading to old town few minutes drive, also receptionist gave us clear instructions on shopping centers, gardaland and more attractions.
