Host of the 2014 World Cup final in Maracanã stadium and the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics, Rio de Janeiro is forward-thinking. High rises line Ipanema beach and you can find dozens of rollerbladers on the promenades at any time.
The hottest spot is Copabacana, a great place to try biscoito globo, a typical Rio beach snack. Sip a caipirinha here while the sun sets over the bay and mountains – unforgettable. It doesn’t end there though. Clubbing in Rio is fantastic and ranges from techno to traditional bossa nova. Bohemian beats can be found in Santa Teresa and Lapa, whose trams pass over a double-arched viaduct.
Overlooking all this from Corcovado mountain is iconic Christ the Redeemer, welcoming the world to Rio with arms outstretched. Take the funicular railway up to this statue on the edge of lush Tijuca Park for incredible views. Accessed by cable car, Sugar Loaf Mountain is also not to be missed.
Rio de Janeiro Airport is well linked to the ‘Marvellous City’, but traffic can be manic, so leave enough time to reach it from your Rio hotel, apartment or hostel booked through Booking.com.

Third visit to Rio , first time over 15y ago in a flat Ipanema for 2 weeks Last time nov 17 for a few days in a hotel.in Copacabana This time stayed 8 days in the center (Lapa District) more local with lots of bars and restaurants. Underground at walking distance and most easy to travel to different areas of Rio. Otherwise cheap fares with Uber and taxis OK. Always great to be back in RdeJ.

Will DEFINITELY be back to Rio de Janeiro!! It is a BEAUTIFUL city & so many activities in the area. Close to many restaurants, live shows, bars, convenience stores. Pricey to be in this area but worth-it staying within walking distance. We heard some stories of bag snatching & phone thefts, but we were SAFE walking around. We didn't use our phones out in public, instead we checked our locations & GPS before we left & used nearby stores to pop into on our way to getting to places, so we could SAFELY check our phones (to make sure we were still on track) Many tour operators in the area if U choose to do tourist attractions. We done a few on our own, since they were easily accessible by bus / taxi & cost a LOT cheaper. Rio is a world-class city in a spectacular location that is worth visiting any time. The beaches are world-famous, but the national parks, especially the botanical garden, as also worth visiting. I have been visiting Rio since the mid-1990's and have never had a negative experience. For details, I can suggest you look at the very many videos and reviews already available on line.

Two places which most visitors see are sugar loaf and Christo. They are good but not something wov! Copacabana and Ipanema.... at least I have seen less smelly beaches though I love happy crowd wandering and jogging around there! Everyone tell you be careful of pick pocket in Rio. That is true but also the town near Copacabana is so lively. Bakery like in Europe, hair salon do massage and nail with reasonable price. Nice city. Has some nice location to chill out and take some photos. Nice weather, especially when the sun goes down. A lot of criminality. Everybody can tell you that they have been robbed, and us ourselves we got robbed too

It was spacey and the bed was huge. Large bathroom. Everything was absolutely clean. There is a desk, an extra table and another table on the balcony. There is a small fridge in the room as well. Really appreciated the blackout curtains. The location of the hotel is unbeatable, pretty much everything is walking distance. It is at the crossroads of Copacabana and Ipanema. I would definitely stay again.

I can say that after walking up and down Copacabana beach many times. Bed was comfortable. From the swimming pool area you have view to the Christ statue. This pool area was small, I had no chance to use it because of the the other guests, but was not a big problem. The breakfast was good. Before staying in this hotel I stayed for some nights in the Lapa area too. I think this split was a really good decision to get to know Rio.AndreaHungary
