Owner is welcoming and helpful. Everywhere in the house is clean. Room is comfortable. Very homey hostel. Not really walkable during winter but free pick-up from Iiyama station is available.

Checkin wasn’t till 4pm but we wanted to check out the Iiyama snow festival so they allowed us to leave our bags inside the hotels hallway. The hotel is above a Korean restaurant with a little door off to the side to enter. It was a great location with a bus stop to nozawa onsen and madarao right outside and a short walk to the castle park (which is where the snow festival was) and only 10mins easy walk from the train station. We went to nozawa onsen for a day trip after checkout and they allowed us to leave our luggage there while we were away. They have an area downstairs for skis/ snowboard it’s kinda like an open air (but enclosed) laundry area. They do have a couple of washing machines so I’m sure you could ask to use them. They had a communal hot water machine, microwave and fridge on the room level with the sinks. A 7 eleven is across the road and a huge drugstore is just a few doors down which has really good cheap snacks, drinks, alcohol, medicines etc. The owner is a (maybe alittle shy) Korean lady who used a translator (as we speak both English and easy Japanese and she speaks I think easy Japanese and Korean.) We got toothbrushes and tooth paste sachet thingo to brush our teeth.

The hosts were amazing. So accommodating and helped with all our questions prior to arrival. The food was fantastic, we really enjoyed the authentic japenese food. They have everything you need here for a comfortable but not crazy expensive ski trip. The location is easy access to the ski resort with a very good free shuttle bus right outside.

Lovely open plan living spaces on ground floor, secluded location (with a temperamental baby we didn't have to be worried about crying waking neighbours), great bathroom, drying room and washing facilities, very well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds. Free local bus to the Nagasaka gondola just up the street, very helpful staff from the nearby sister lodge (assisted with free lifts to town etc). We asked for a cot and a high chair and this wasn't a problem.

It was a bit nostalgic for me, smelling food being cooked reminded me of when I’d wake in the morning and my parents were cooking. The aroma of breakfast and dinner made me want to get out the bed and see what it was. Hot breakfast cooked by Jack was available, along with many cereal options, pastries, juices, and a toaster to self service. Fresh coffee which always makes my day! Breakfast was superb. Something different every morning and if I didn’t care for it, Jack offered to make me another option, which is very hospitable. There was also shuttle service to pick you up from bus station and to bring you to the Nagasaka Gondola. The drying/storage room for snowboarding/skiing gear was definitely a great option and it was great that each locker was designated for your room number. Overall, my stay was very excellent and the hosts are quite knowledgeable about the area. Will definitely stay there again.

Such a warm and welcoming place. A truly authentic Japanese home stay. 5 mins walk to the chairlift, and easy ski rental near by. Very warm and cosy, loved the onsen bath downstairs.

Muy buena estadía en Kadowaki-kan. Su dueño ha sido sumamente afable, nos atendió siempre con dedicación y nos explicó pacientemente todo lo que necesitábamos saber sobre los servicios de la zona, etc. El lugar es un típico hotel-ryokan que ofrece un alojamiento tradicional, con buena ubicación y acceso a movilidad a menos de 100 metros. Impecable a nivel limpieza y con un buen desayuno. Estamos especialmente agradecidos a su dueño y a las señoras que preparan y sirven el desayuno.

El Berg Marukaneya es un lugar increíble. El personal que nos atendió muy amable y se sabe comunicar perfectamente en ingles. En frente hay un establecimiento para alquilar equipamiento de ski que tiene descuento por quedarte en el hotel. La habitación es muy cómoda y de estilo tradicional. También dispone de un onsen (separado para hombres y mujeres). El desayuno y la cena son realmente excepcionales. Comida riquísima, casera y abundante. Cerca de muchos baños publicos y del centro de nozawaonsen.
