About Punta Cana

Including tips for the best time to visit Punta Cana

As far as Caribbean beach destinations go, few are more dreamy than Punta Cana. The easternmost spot of the Dominican Republic is one of the region’s most famous resort towns renowned for its gorgeous selection of white-sand beaches.

Beaches are the biggest attraction in Punta Cana, and for good reason. The main beach, Macao Beach, is a picturesque stretch of white sand lined by tall palm trees and is popular with surfers. Elsewhere, Bavaro Beach is ideal for snorkelling and offers plenty of great diving spots. If you’re looking for something more secluded, check out Palmilla Beach on Saona Island just off the coast. This untouched island is part of East National Park and is known for its mangroves, coral reefs and wildlife.

There are plenty of exciting things to do and see in Punta Cana. Check out ChocMuseo, a museum and factory where you can learn how chocolate is made, from the cacao beans to the delicately wrapped bar. At night, head straight for Coco Bongo, a vibrant nightclub that knows how to put on a show. Here, trapeze artists, singers, dancers and entertainers perform well into the early hours of the morning.

We liked the fact that the hotel and facilities were exceptionally clean and well maintained. We also liked the fact that there were a number of pools we could use and sunbeds were plentiful. The restaurants were good and as my husband and I like completely different foods we could both find a good selection of foods. We were slightly disappointed by the a La Carte restaurants ie the Italian and the Olive Tree due to menu choice and availability of certain alcohol types, ie we ordered a rum and coke at the Italian restaurant and this seemed impossible for them to produce. We particularly enjoyed the spa where the staff were friendly and we had one of the best massages ever!

My room had no running hot water and Cock Roaches!

February 6, 2024

My room had no running hot water and Cock Roaches! I went to the front desk. To let them know what I was experiencing. The mgr. Juan moved me to another room. The supervisor helped me change rooms. When I got to my new room. It was a family already in the room. I walked in to this room and this lady was in there with here two children. She was scared she was screaming. I was scared as well. Her husband came running to the room. They were very upset. The supervisor told me to stay outside the room. He will return in 5 minutes. He was going to exchange the room again! He never came back to inform me what was going on! I stood outside in the hallway by myself. After about 15-20 minutes. I took it upon myself to go to the front desk. At this time is several ppl at the desk. I stood there for an additional 30 minutes until they can find me a room to move to. No guest should have to experience this kind of horror! They wasn't accommodating at all. This is the worst experience ever! I had proof about the Cock Roaches in my room. I had video and pictures. They were making excuses instead of trying to accommodate me! I wouldn't recommend this Resort!

Arrived 28 December 23.

Arrived 28 December 23. Leaving 2 February Really enjoyed the stay , travelled with my girlfriend who also loved the area and people, would recommend not staying in resorts if a couple ( so many families) adult only resorts or apartments were the order of the day . Security everywhere , not sure if needed but does make you feel secure. Some brilliant days out dolphins , caves , high wire café bongo , horse riding on the beach biking , island hopping to many to mention all . Beautiful people

Non-impressive Premium.

January 24, 2024

Non-impressive Premium. First - extra pay for premium wasn't worth it. All "exclusive" areas such as dining buffet, beach and pools were easily accessible by non-premium quests. There were no security checks for the band wrist color - bronze for premium, blue for others. Couple of times we've been waiting to be seated for breakfast while non-premium quests occupied tables. In addition, AC didn't work inside the dining room during our stay in premium cafeteria. Though, waiters did there best and were very quick, helpful and friendly. Second - meals quality. This is lowest compare to other 5 different resorts we vacationed before in Punta Cana/ La Romana. Selection was extremely minimum, most foods are tasteless. Me and my wife had poisoning symptoms on the 4th day of stay and had to limit our selfs to few options. La Carte restaurants, except Japanese, didn't worth attending. Buffet selection on this level was much better. Third - drinks. We are not big on drinks, though, few we ordered tasted watered-down. If you want a drink, it's better to order straight shots. Four - Beach and pools are very nice. You still need to come earlier to mark sunbeds if you want to lay down in the shade Premium area has few nice palapas, though, we were coming around 7 am to occupy before going for breakfast. Five - accomodation, rooms are spacious and staff keep it very clean. Though, they are dated. For instance, shared bathroom doesn't have exhaust. We asked maintenance to fix bathroom lock, but it never been addressed. It's minor, but still. Six - entertainment. I love beach volleyball and soccer. Areas for these sports were setup, but staff never engaged people to play. Other outdoor activities are good, similar to other resorts. Shows are OK for resort level. Seven - resort area is well designed and we loved our power walks. Overall, I would think really hard before returning, especially if food quality stays the same.

The people in Punta Cana were amazing, very kind and generous. There are plenty of great restaurants and walking distances, and the beaches are amongst the best in the world. I would recommend Punta Cana to anyone wanting to get away quickly with family or just a loved one. Horseback riding was amazing on the beach..

Love how the resort was taken care of by the first rate staff. There was staff for everything you could possibly think of. They were so upbeat daily and so pleasant and helpful in every way. Such a gorgeous resort.
