Hong Kong Island
0.9 miles from city centre
Endure a few minutes of wooziness and take a tram up Victoria Peak for views of the Hong Kong skyline. Sun-soaked Repulse Bay and Deep Water Bay beckon you to a lazy day by the sea. Set sail for Aberdeen Island aboard a sampan (traditional boat) and lose yourself in the life of a traditional fishing community.

Kowloon
1.9 miles from city centre
Catch a sea breeze in coastal Kowloon. As morning breaks, sport and Tai Chi enthusiasts head to Kowloon Park. Inside, the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre tugs at the roots of British colonial rule. Strike it lucky in one of the 400 shops of the Jade Market in Yau Ma Tei, or haggle with shrewd vendors at the Temple Street Night Market.
Places to stay from US$7 per night
Central District
In the city centre
The bells still toll in St John’s Cathedral and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Hit Hollywood Road for galleries, look for critters at the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens or chillax at the eateries along Victoria Harbour. By night, breakdance (or hand jive) at the clubs in ‘expat’-filled Lan Kwai Fong.
Places to stay from US$27 per night
Mongkok
2.6 miles from city centre
Mong Kok means ‘busy corner’ in Cantonese. Ladies’ Market on Tung Choi Street sells everything a modern lass needs; see Sai Yeung Choi Street for electronics and cosmetics, and the fruit, flower and goldfish markets need no explanation. On a hot day, find air-conditioned comfort at the Sino Centre’s multimedia shops.
Places to stay from US$26 per night
Tsim Sha Tsui
1.4 miles from city centre
The city’s busy tourist area mixes shopping and culture. Buy luxury clothing along Canton Road, or nab a bargain at Park Lane Shopper’s Boulevard’s factory outlets. The city’s past comes to life at the interactive Hong Kong Museum of History, while kids can take a whirlwind tour of the galaxy in the Hong Kong Space Museum.
Places to stay from US$7 per night
Wan Chai
1.2 miles from city centre
Wan Chai is a friendly assault on the senses. Walk up Stone Nullah Lane for striking pre-war architecture, or slurp up noodles and congee at the local ‘Dai Pai Dong’ (open-air restaurants). Hong Kong Arts Centre hosts provocative exhibitions year-round. Wan Chai's theatres stage popular musicals with a dash of Broadway panache.
Places to stay from US$15 per night
Causeway Bay
1.8 miles from city centre
Causeway Bay is organised chaos. Shopping centres erupt with shoppers day and night, especially in Hysan Place, with 17 floors of shopping. If elbowing your way to a bargain doesn't appeal, head to Jardine Crescent – a local shopping area with bargains to boot. Exhausted? Re-energise in the open spaces of Victoria Park or listen to the Noon Day Gun blast.
Places to stay from US$14 per night
Hong Kong, one of the world’s most densely populated places, is a unique blend of Chinese and western culture, where ultra-modern high rises dominate the skyline. But it’s not all sky-scraping glitz. Beyond the steel and glass towers of the commercial district are the holy shrines, maze-like bazaars and clinking teahouses of the inner city.
In Kowloon, discover gleaming feng shui temples like Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin, chaotic markets selling everything from spicy stir-fries to lucky waving cats, and Tsim Sha Tsui East Promenade – the best place to view Hong Kong Island and its spectacular Symphony of Lights show.
Next, hop aboard the star ferry to Hong Kong Island, the epicentre of commerce which has earned the city its title of East Asia’s financial capital. Take the funicular to the summit of Victoria Peak to see the city laid out like a line of dominoes against a mountainous backdrop.
For all its razzmatazz, quiet places can still be sought out in Hong Kong. Spend some time in Victoria Peak’s woodlands or Kowloon's walled city park. If you go in summer, be sure to visit the uncrowded white-sand beaches of Clear Water Bay.

People are really friendly the gallery n science museum are fantastic. Loved the harbour side promenade . Saddened there are soooooo many shops n restaurants that are common all over the world. Makes shopping boring. The famous Temple Street Markets long gone n looked desolate. Hong Kong has no identity of its own. Where's your individuality? Ya got little copies of bits and pieces of architecture, shops and franchise restaurants n cafes from all over the world. So what is Hong Kong? I still couldn't tell you.

The city is a bustling metropolis full of stores, restaurants, galleries, glorious old old trees line streets. It's remarkably clean and functional. I would like to be able to access gluten free cafes and restaurants but we did find that fun and an adventure in itself. The science museum is excellent and the gallery. OMG the accessibility of the city is impressive and the PEOPLE are soooo friendly courteous and helpful.

It was good as so many people spoke English and fairly easy to get round, but after living in China for past 4 months, the place didn't seem as clean or well organised, Still lots of shanty looking areas in between the luxury shops and apartments and people sleepingon the streets, which we don't see in China. The ferry trips are worth while and inexpensive and there's some great shopping malls and amazing walkways. It reminded me a bit about scenes from the movie 'Blade Runnr', as we were there during rainstorms and a passing typhoon.

It's just another big city easy to get around but didn't really appeal to me. I had spent many hours in the airport while transmitting in the past so thought we would have a look around. I found one or two places didn't want to entertain us because we didn't speak Chinese . Some taxi drivers were a little snappy . It's not as relaxing as Singapore or Kuala Lumpur and me personally I wouldn't go back.

Hong Kong was our final stop on a trip round Asia and WOW. Came home telling everyone it was my favourite place we went. Every day was spent exploring the city and surrounding areas. With countless things to do and see, I doubt anyone could be bored in Hong Kong. We were there for a week and never felt like we had seen it all or managed to do everything despite cramming each day full!! Public transport was super easy to use - we purchased Oyster cards upon arrival at the airport and topped these up when required at 7/11 The food was next level and I enjoyed indulging in the local cuisine. The culinary highlight for me was the signature buns from Cheung Hing Kee Pan-fried buns to which we returned 4 times in the week. I would recommend Hong Kong to anyone who wants a real authentic, cultural city to explore and I myself with definitely be returning!
