United StatesA wonderful, memorable, unique stay. Our room (superior suite) was spacious, clean, quiet, and nicely decorated. The staff is kind, welcoming, responsive, and helpful: they organized all of our transportation in advance and even arranged for us to store our luggage in Potosí while we explored the city for a few hours. It does take ~45 minutes to arrive from the city center by taxi, but the drive is gorgeous. The hotel is at the head of a tranquil verdant valley one would not expect just outside of the bustling city of Potosí. I say this place is a luxury, not for five star amenities, but in the context of Bolivia and its history. The property has been owned by the same family for generations and it has notable history and an incredible collection of valuable art, furnishing, and objects (hence being a museum, of which they offer a ~1 hour tour). The beautiful setting alone is priceless (they even have their own spring with pure water!). With ~500 years of history, Cayara is surely one of the most unique and interesting places you can stay in Bolivia. Completely to our surprise, we were also able to tour the small dairy farm next door (also owned by the family which owns the hotel-museum) and have their delicious ice cream and popsicles—try the copoazu, maracuya, and pistachio!
