The monasteries are lovely but the public transport (bus) to move around them is limited if you only want to visit one or two. Our time was limited so we took the 9am bus up to the main meteron monastery and walked down to Varlaam and Rossenou (St Barbara) convent. We were finished here by 12 but had to walk back to Kalambaka as there was no bus until 14:30 and we had a bus to catch for our onward journey. We walked down to Kastraki and had a quick bite and walked on to Kalambaka. It was an easy walk and took about 40 mins but this was in April so not too hot.

Kalabaka is a city with traditional houses and Meteora is very close. You can visit some of the monasteries. We went to the museum of physical history with animals and birds that lived there, which was very nice, to the mushroom museum and to the digital projection center of Meteora's history and culture. The food also was excellent.

The monasteries of Meteora are place of spiritual renewal.
The monasteries of Meteora are place of spiritual renewal. The Byzantine art and the historic architecture elevate the soul. I was fortunate enough to half ten minutes alone in the chapels of both the Varlaam and Holy Trinity monasteries in between the flow of tourists and found it to be peaceful and prayerful. The natural scenery of the area, including the sunsets, has no equal anywhere I have been, and watching the sun change the colors of the rocks and the monastery buildings as it set in the west was truly amazing. Kalabaka is a bit built up and a mile or two further away from the rocks. Stay in Kastraki for a really Greek village experience.

Kalambaka is an interesting small town with many restaurants, gift shops, souvenirs shops. But the main attractions are the mountaintop monasteries from the 14-15th century that seem to float as you look up.
Taking a tour is very helpful because you get the history of the area and the monasteries, and you do not have to concentrate on driving.
Don’t forget to visit the Natural History Museum and the Mushroom Museum housed together. We have such respect for mushrooms now!
The staff were extremly friendly and helpful. The receptionist explained us the locations of the different monasteries and gave us tips for hikes and excursions. The hotel is very conveniently located, i.e. close to the nearest monasteries, and from our room we had a wonderful view on the rocky landscape and some of the convents. And although the hotel is located right on the road to the Meteora, it was quiet at night. The breakfast buffet was very varied and plentiful.
I strongly recommend Mythos Guesthouse for a stay in Meteora. We felt very welcomed and cosy because of the very warm hosts, Dita and Spiros. They were very caring and kind. Everything was extremely clean and the location is central. Very good price / benefits ratio. They also administer the Monastiri hotel in Meteora, where we had a continental breakfast for a very good price. We will definetely return to one of these locations when we will go to Meteora again.
This is a nice accommodation surrounded by homes and the tall cliffs that are characteristic of Meteora! The view from the backyard and from our room was phenomenal. The hospitable staff is wonderful and quite helpful. Breakfast was also a great experience. Its location was within walking distance to restaurants which served up some decent fare. The room itself and the hotel were very well maintained. All in all a pleasant experience!
The hotel is beautiful and clean. It is a non-smoking hotel which made it even better. The staff went above and beyond, making sure we were comfortable and had all the information we needed to enjoy the Meteora. I wasn't feeling well and they offered tea and other items for the road to help me feel better. Breakfast was wonderful with so many options. By far the best hotel we stayed in while traveling through Greece.
Modern and cozy hotel with a small number of rooms. From the balcony of our room and the breakfast area we could enjoy the fantastic view of Meteora! Option for every-day cleaning service and refill of amenity products was highly appreciated. Bed and pillows were extremely comfortable, we had an amazing sleep. Friendly staff, especially the lady at the reception made us feel very welcome! I would definitely visit again
The best hotel in Greece! Kastraki is the most beautiful village and this is the best hotel there! The room was gorgeous, the staff so welcoming and friendly, and the complimentary breakfast was incredible. They served the most delicious Greek food, and lots of it! I can’t wait to go back. I’ve stayed in many nice hotels around the US and other countries, and this was by far my favorite!
Nice hotel in the city centre, ideal for one / two nights or when Meteora is your destination.
Nice staff, elevator, I was surprised by the bathroom amenities (it's on a higher category level), large balcony.
Tasty and very varied breakfast including cakes.
Internet ok, parking is in narrow streets but you could find a spot.
Price / service offered ratio very good.
Good location a short taxi ride from the train station, and a short walk to the heart of Kalabaka village. The staff were very helpful. They made arrangements for us to take a taxi to the monasteries and viewpoints of Meteora. We also were given an upgrade to a larger room with balcony and view looking up at Saint Stephens monastery. The breakfast was included and good.
The hotel is located at the begging of the village but that’s okay because the village is small and there are tavernas literally everywhere- you walk a few minutes only. We had a nice view from the balcony (rocks of Meteora). The host was polite. The hotel was well furnished, but it’s the old one so also the room was old style furnished. Beds were comfy.
The hotel is in centre of Kastraki and close to Monastery of Saint Nicholas. It's very convenient for a hike or sightseeing in Meteora. It has a private parking. The owner was really kind. The room is as in the photo, clean and well equipped with air-conditioner and heating if you need.
First of all the hostel was very clean . Also owner of the hotel very helpful person even he gave me skirt for the wear during the meteora tour :) 15 minutes walk from the train station and the bus staion for to go meteora just across the hostel
Very nice place thank you
Peaceful adult only hotel for travels who do not want to be disturbed. Good breakfast, enjoyed the outdoor dining and food was great, views of the Meteora. Staff were very friendly and helpful with regards to providing tips about visit the Monasteries.
Perfect location and beautiful view of Meteora. Breakfast was delicious with lots of local, homemade items. The honey and yogurt was very tasty. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Beautiful patio area too. I would highly recommend this hotel!
The Grand Meteora is located very close to the magnificent monasteries! The staff was just amazing- responsive to each and every question! If you’re traveling to Greece, in this area, there isn’t a better option to stay!
Divani in Kalabaka is a classic luxury hotel. Staff is very friendly, the rooms are quite comfy, the breakfast was excellent and the location is unique. If you ever visit Kalabaka, this is the place to stay
it is on the Main Street of Kalambaka, 8 minutes walk from the train station. Many restaurants are on the same street as the hotel. We booked a room with a balcony facing the Meteora rock formations.
The view if the Meteora was spectacular! Can't comment on amentiies since the hotel had just opened for the season, but our room was comfortable.located a short drive from town in a quiet rural location.
The location was amazing, so awe-inspiring to wake up and see the Meteora rock formations. The hotel staff were so incredibly nice, and the hotel was very new and had wonderful accommodations.
