I love a good German eiderdown and this fulfilled all expectations. The bed was very comfortable and the room and bathroom were up to-date but still charming and very clean. The restaurant at the hotel was good and very popular. A convenient location for a drive up north. Note that traffic in hamburg is heavy so if you're heading for the ferry to Denmark, leave in very good time.

Quiet, clean, green, small German town in the countryside. We made a weekend of our drive between university towns in the Netherlands and Denmark, stopping at Paleis Het Loo on day one and the Moravian settlement of Christiansfeld on day two. Heidenau is about midway. It is a small town with interesting old barns. It was white asparagus season and we enjoyed the all-asparagus menu at the hotel. On a previous trip we had eaten in a typical German restaurant walking distance from the hotel.

Staff very helpful and spoke good english. Room was huge and with a good size bathroom and excellent shower. Evening restauarant served a mixed menu, steak was one of the best I had ever tasted. Breakfast was the usual continental and adeqaute. The village was very quiet
