The YHA Ilam Hall has dormitory rooms, most containing bunk beds, with shared bathroom facilities. The magnificent Victorian building also houses a sumptuous lounge with a TV and games area.

YHA Ilam Hall Hostel is a National Trust property, and the River Manifold runs through the beautiful grounds. Alton Towers is a 15-minute drive away, and Chatsworth House is a 30-minute drive.

Great atmosphere. People running the place are really kind, laid-back and helpful. Food was decent too. Our kids had a lovely time. The setting is just beautiful, lovely gardens bordered by the river. Tranquil and peaceful place at the edge of the Peak District.

Budget travelers know there's no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: Save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a little more.

We didn't realise it was at a national trust property when we booked, but were very happy to find out when we arrived. We went for the price and our first family adventure at a youth hostel. Staff were excellent! Food was great, and they could even cater for my kids allergies which was a godsend!

Beautiful setting. Tea was great. Breakfast was fine. Room clean but fairly cosy for 2 sets of bunks. Odd smell in room but old building. Exceeded expectations for a youth hostel.

Absolutely breathtakingl location. Nothing can prepare you for the beauty as you drive into the valley. The grounds were amazing. The youth hostel was clean and functional. Perfect location for walking or cycling. We would go back again.

Two Dales - perfect family cottage, clean and comfortable with lots of space for 6 adults & 5 children, never felt too crowded. Great location. Good facilities on site, fantastic swimming pool, we were lucky enough to get two days swimming for an hour each time. I imagine in busy periods we would have only have got the 30 minutes allocated slots. Lots of outdoor space for children to run round safely.

The bedrooms were basic as we expected given this is a youth hostel. However the beds were comfortable and the room and facilities spotless. The staff were unfailingly pleasant and friendly and the location magnificent.

The room was brilliant for us and our dog, comfortable, clean and great size! Love girls loved having their own bunk beds each!! Lol! The park was amazing and also the restaurant and bar area was great and I loved that they still kept restrictions in and face masks as it made me feel safe still. The staff were all so friendly and happy to help with anything we asked. Would definitely recommend.
