Only minor complaints would be:
- the mattress was a little soft and perhaps past its best, but not really a problem.
- The wooden gate by the pool was left open when we were there with some movement of people between the hotel and the neighbouring industrial unit - this door needs to be kept shut in the interest of privacy.
Great setting by the river facing west and giving over woodland, with the occasional sea lion swimming past, nice 15m pool, good location maybe 20 mins walk from the centre, very peaceful.
Atmospheric old building built 1920 in the colonial style with art deco touches and high ceilings (formerly a small ship yard).
Very good breakfast with delicious home-made croissants.
The centre-piece is the large wooden deck (this being the former dock) where they've tastefully arranged 2 big pergolas and some very comfortable outdoor furniture, and where food and drinks can be served. This is an extremely pleasant place to relax.
The staff were all very professional.
We booked a standard room and were upgraded to a superior room with balcony. If i went back i'd definitely pay the extra and stay in the superior room, not just because of the balcony, but because these rooms are located in a different and better situated block, which gives directly onto the river rather than onto the car park/garden/river.
Highly recommended. We plan to return.
