Rooms were spacious very comfortable and clean. Lovely beds and great shower room. Staff all friendly and helpful. Superb location for Arenal area we hired a car which was perfect. Good range of restaurants and shops in La Fortuna within 5 mins if hotel. Hotel located by river we saw lits of iguanas a sloth and other interesting wildlife. Breakfast was good amd all rooms have a fridge. Would return to this hotel. Pool small but good for a dip at the end of a busy day. Loads to do in local area.

Being woken up at 6.30 am by building work right next to our rooms. They gave us no warning. Would check before you book to see if it is completed.

Beautiful landscape with wildlife right out your door. Walking to the center of town is just a minutes walk. The rooms are very up to date and the shower is huge.

Having the air conditioner on a timer ha to keep waking up and turning it back on.

Staff was great help booking tours and transportation, very accommodating. Included breakfast was excellent

Woke up with ants in room. Kind of unavoidable due to location, and staff quickly cleaned up the mess. Overall not a big deal.

The staff was very helpful with booking activities, they were always polite and helpful, we speak some Spanish so their English was very greatful .

The young dog next door when penned up barked non stop, so a mid day nap was out.

We arrived pretty late from an all day travel, but were greeted with a welcome drink and reception staff happy to answer our multitude of questions, which included him phoning a hot springs to check the price and a tour company to reconfirm our pick up time. We had booked none of these tours through the hotel. We also put some clothes in for washing that evening, and received them the next day. Location is also very good, just one block back from the main street and close to a number of Sodas. This means it is nice and quiet at night. The gardener showed us the sloth and some other animals. We did not use the pool.

As with many hotels in Costa Rica/Panama, the room did not have many places to hang wet clothes which we find odd considering the kinds of activities people do here. The curtains let in quite a bit of light, so these could be improved. We saw one cockroach, but we also saw these at one other hotel on our trip. Matress was a bit saggy, and double bed a bit small. There was also a single bed in our room which we used for suitcase storage. Windows are screened which means you can leave the window open without fear of bugs, which is useful if like us you are in a non-air con room.

Hotel Monte Real was in a fantastic location, facing the town of La Fortuna but with a nice little river and forest at the back. The staff were extremely helpful with booking as well as with arranging transportation. We got a private ride from Daniel from the airport and he was fantastic. We were very tired from traveling and just wanted to get to the hotel, but he offered multiple times to stop for food or to take pictures. We were pleasantly surprised to learn the hotel has WiFi and HBO. The location is also a big plus, being right in town you have a lot of options of restaurants to eat at and shops to walk around and look at! Definitely recommend this place!

Excellent location, close to bars, restaurants, shops and tour operators. The volcano view was lovely (we were lucky enough to have a view every day we were there); nice to have the bubbling brook and wildlife (sloths, monkeys, birds, and a snake) in the gardens, which the helpful gardener pointed out to us. We didn't use the pool, but it was good to have sun loungers around it, on which to relax when not on a trip. Breakfast (at a local soda) was good, and was available until lunchtime. Also nice to have a fridge and coffee in the room. When I noticed ants in the room, the staff were very quick to eradicate them. Thanks! It was a pleasure to stay in this multi-generational family business.

As with other hotels in CR, the shower outlet was about 8ft off the ground - fine for big blokes, but not good for a small woman. I ended up washing my hair and body under the tap below the shower.

The reception staff were very helpful and pleasant. We had a big, spotlessly clean room with a balcony, very comfortable beds. The gardens are beautifully maintained and pretty. The hotel is about a two minute walk to a supermarket, etc. It was great.

The location in the town of Fortuna is wonderful. You can walk everywhere in town. Close to great restaurants & the town square. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Pool is lovely & sparkling clean.

In our bathroom there had obviously been a water leak from above and there was mould clearly visible on the ceiling above the shower; this gave the room a musty odour and is a health concern. It should be taken care of immediately & requires more than simply having it wiped off .... the wood needs to be replaced in order to remove the problem.

Our room was surrounded by jungle foliage next to a river with a sloth in a tree and pool, and at the same time we could step out our door, walk one block, and be on Fortuna's main strip. The room was large, comfortable and quiet with a private balcony. And for those who like long walks, we easily hiked the 6 km through beautiful countryside to the gorgeous Rio Fortuna waterfall.

The complimentary breakfast is served in a soda (local restaurant) down the street, so it's not self-serve as we prefer.

Good size room, comfortable bed, shower ok, nice balcony to watch the birds, would have fantastic views of the volcano if the clouds lifted, a few restaurant's to walk to, a good base to get to many attractions, hot springs, zip wire, walks, a very nice place to just chill out and relax.

Nothing negative to say except if you like a drink in the morning bring your own as none available on site.

The setting was beautiful. You got good views of the wildlife including sloth, iguanas, and blue jean frog. All the staff from those at the reception desk to the gardener (and his little son) were very friendly and helpful. We liked the breakfast included. Food was good and the service was fast.

Couldn't get wifi in the room. Had to go out on the deck.

Good location in La Fortuna - a little on the side. Great garden-like property, sloth in the trees, beautiful birds, view of Arenal.

Street noise from buses and cars wakes you up early - which is good if you have big plans for the day.

The location was so convenient to everything, especially restaurants and shopping. The beautiful gardens and water sounds in the stream were so relaxing and beautiful. The staff was friendly, and the breakfast food and flexible hours for eating proved excellent and a much appreciated perk!

    Nothing--no complaints!

Awesome view of the volcano. Nice location, great value for money.

The breakfast was in a different location down the road, not very far and for us it was no problem, but it might be a nuissance to others if you're not prepared for it.
