Score from 32 reviews Good
Pleasant staff who were more than accommodating with off-hours arrival and departure times. All guests were very friendly and helpful navigating the town and giving trip advice. We did not stay on one of the cabins but our room was clean and the sheets changed frequently. The shower was good and the water was hot. Trips booked at the front desk are priced well, leave on time, and are very enjoyable.
The construction of the second floor walkways is slightly bouncy so whenever someone walks around outside the rooms or hops into bed, everyone can feel and hear it.
Staff were very friendly and helpful in booking tours. Breakfast was great
The room was a little musty and worn.
Perfect location, right next to beach. We could hear the waves from our bed.
Great staff, great price.
Good location , breakfast excellent we had a very comfortable room.
Nice dormitories and breakfast. Lovely location near the beach and pretty hostel.
Staff aren't very attentive at being at reception.
Mosquitos! WiFi not available in all areas.
We spent here 3 nights and we had a good time. We were supposed to arrive very early in the morning and a room and breakfast was available for us even though it was before normal check in time, without additional cost. Internet was good around the breakfast area with also have great views on the sea and hammocks deck! The lady running the place has been most helpful also arranging tours, laundry and keeping our luggages after check out. Overall clean relaxing and well located.
Excellent location and views
Poor cleanliness. The place is tired, needs updating
Mother and Daughter birthday getaway. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Location provides the true feeling of Ecuador... Highly recommended hostal!! Yo quiero Puerto López!
Wifi only available in cafeteria area BUT this area is very relaxing with hammocks and ample space for privacy.
We are the owners of a Bed and Breakfast in upstate New York, USA and have an understanding of what it takes to be both successful and unjaded in this business. We have stayed in eight hostals/hotels in Ecuador during this trip and this is, by far, the most memorable one. The staff, especially the owner, assisted us in many ways, including, but not limited to: arranging taxi drivers to come to pick us up, walking us to the taxi with an umbrella during a rain shower, cancelling an unneeded reservation, arranging a tour with a guide and connecting us with a fellow traveler. Have I said enough yet? The room was simple, neat, clean with a comfortable bed with mosquito net. The room had an attached bathroom with hot water. The breakfast was the best one we ate at in our Ecuadorian stay. The grounds were elaborate and colorful with both flowers and plants We had a special appreciation of the owners' interest and financial support of an indigenous farming site in Ecuador and wished that we had time to visit it- maybe you can...
Our room needed to have window screens. It would have helped greatly if there were instructions on how to remove the fan attached to the wall. ( The owner was dealing with both these situations as we left. )
Very good breakfast and no problem getting hot water. The beach is across the and is in the less busy part of the beach. Restaurants close buy.
A bit noisy on saturday nights because close to center town.
Location and staff were very helpful organizing excursions to isla de plata and rio blanco.
Big spiders in room at night. Too hot to sleep with windows closed but no screens except canopy over bed. Said to not be dangerous but uncomfortable.
Good location - 10min to bus stops and view of beach, comfortable bungalow with porch & hammock, hot shower if you need one, excellent breakfasts (included in room price), pretty quiet on site, good sized communal kitchen though short on some equipement.
Cafe at front of hostal (open to public) never open, Wi-Fi signal very weak except by cafe, staffing of reception bit variable.
Good breakfast with a great view! The room was clean and the shower had hot water. The atmosphere was really nice.
We were going to book a tour to Isla de la Plata through the hostel for $40 but asked at the place next door and got it for $30. Shop around before booking any tours/trips at the hostel.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Walk across the street and there was the beach and numerous bars/restaurants. Close to the Isla La Plata(1hr) You get your own personal cabana with Hammock, bathroom with shower and hot water!
Dirty sheets in bed and room full of dust.
- Awesome breakfast view. - Hammocks in front of every little cabin. - Really friendly landlady. - The place is a bit outside the city centre (3-5 min walk). Nice to party but then get a good (quiet) nights rest. - Hotel hast good arrangements with a travel organization for day trips, renting bikes, etc - Kitchen available if you want to prepare your own lunch/dinner.
During the second night, my boyfriend and I could not sleep because we felt itchy all over our bodies. There was something in the bed. We talked to the landlady the next day, and she inmediately arranged for us to change rooms (big plus!). The second room was much better.
Terrific location and beautiful hotel. The breakfasts in the morning were terrific
Cute cabin, near the sea. And visit Isla de la Plata.
Bad info about travel. Told the trip to Quito by bus would be 8 hours, it was 12 and a half hours!
service was mediocre
The lady Maria who runs this hostel is very friendly and even helped me when I was feeling a bit ill! It is a great location right on the beach, with a generous breakfast and lovely hammocks to relax in. Perfect!
The water in the shower was not always warm.
Location in Puerto Lopez, close to the sea and close to tour operators for whale and Isla de la Plate trips. Warm shower is a definite plus (not constant but rather good compared to more luxuruous hotels we have been in).
Very basic cabins compared to what you pay for them. Small bed, room not very clean at arrival and not once cleaned afterwards (we stayed 3 nights), only emptying of dust bin (where you put the toilet paper instead of flushing, as everywhere in Ecuador), no change of towels or bed making). Slow service at breakfast, breakfast room needs more space (they were building when we were there). The space below the breakast room asks for some nice lounge seats and more decoration. Garden is nice but not well maintained. Can be very noisy (depending on fellow guests). Price quality ratio just not right, staff tried to charge extra tax when we paid at leaving, was corrected after I protested, but this did not feel okay.
