The inn (5 rooms) really is really an addition to a small and very good Champagne house, located in the Champagne region. We were greeted upon arrival and given a glass of the champagne made there. Laura, was very accommodating and knowledgable about he champagne making process. We really enjoyed the tour she gave us of Doyard and their caves. Breakfast was simple and good with croissants ,meats, cheeses and various homemade jams. Rooms very very comfortable and we slept well. Not to far from Epernay or Reims, a nice, quiet town to relax in while taking in sights in Champagne region. There are a few restaurants and bakeries in town, but mostly a drive to eat somewhere.
Friendly welcome; no hard sell of their own champagne; room adequate to motel standard but sparse, shower room rather cramped. Altogether, acceptable for a one-night stay but certainly for no longer. Proprietor's efforts at booking restaurant for us singularly unsuccessful and so after 500km drive left to our own devices which meant driving another 20km to Epernay to find anywhere to eat.
Poor value for money. The previous night we had stayed at Domaine du Chateau Marchangy near Charlieu. For precisely the same price (€115) we had every possible attention to detail in the bedroom, large bathroom, tea in front of blazing log fire and a very warm personal welcome.
Welcoming hosts, good breakfast, free parking and wifi. Great champagne tasting.
No TV and no champagne at breakfast
My husband and I stayed our first 3 nights in France here! Quaint, clean and quiet, and a really comfortable bed. Excellent French breakfast. Wonderful staff and great champagne!
Wished we had time to spend a few more days
Very good location in the picturesque village of Vertus, 20 minutes away from Epernay; Great attention to details; Very convenient parking in the courtyard; Nice French breakfast
Worth staying whilst in the region, we got some champagne tasting with the stay as well. Cannot even describe how lovely the place was and how nice the owner and his staff were.
very friendly helpful family. We met Charles who was utterly charming. Room was very clean, elegantly furnished. Parking easy. Great stopover en route from Calais to the South of France.
A great welcome with complimentary champagne. Friendly staff Beautiful, comfortable room Great location on the Champagne tourist route
We can't fault Le Clos Margot but there is almost nothing to do in Vertus.
Being at a Champagnerie and friendly staff more than willing to teach you about Champagnes. The Champagne they make on site is very good.
The doors were like paper so you could hear everything outside perfectly and it's right beside the main road.
Nice rooms, clean, great location, lovely hosts, really enjoyed their champagne!
Initially when we first arrived we were disappointed after a long drive from Lyon as had visions of being in the centre of a picturesque vineyard. (Actually had forgotten exactly what was booked). However, upon meeting the owner and settling in we were invited to discuss any concerns / questions over a glass of champagne. Upon taking our 1st sip inside the grand reception we realised that we were in fact inside a hidden gem, having views of many oak barrels; the bottling room and wine production areas. The owner gave us a talk about the history of the Doyard name, the champagnes they produce and then we were lucky enough to have a tour of the site - this felt much more intimate than a previous tour of Moet in Epernay. We dined locally and had a sound night's sleep. The breakfast was typically French (bread, croissant, yoghurts, etc..) but we were taken care of in a modern kitchen diner and able to taste at least 15 home made jams - fantastic! Shame to had to leave but we were homeward bound via Calais. Would definitely book this again.
15 types of homemade jam at breakfast
Quiet and comfortable room, very good breakfast with local produce - never had such a choice of jams! The welcome glass of their own champagne was a nice touch. Good wifi in the room.
Limited choice of restaurants for evening meal unless you drive to another village.
Helpfull & friendly staff, lovely room & bathroom, no tv in the cheapest of their 5 rooms, free & spacious inside courtyard parking, advice on what to see & where to eat, etc. a free glass of champagne upon arrival, before buying a few bottles . An excellent breakfast.
We will stay longer next time !
People: Super helpful people, Charles in particular. even dropped Property: Wonderful kept. Extremely clean. Just a wonderful calm & very cordial & beautiful village with wonderful people
Nothing to be honest. Just make sure you have a car to drive around
Clean & comfortable room. Easy parking. Good breakfast. Handy location. Complimentary champagne! Close to very acceptable restaurant.
Very friendly professional staff. Champagne on arrival. The tour of the production plant.
Basic room ; no TV or radio , a bit over priced. Very clean and functional though.
Welcome glass of Champaign Well situated in the region Good breakfast Helpful and friendly staff
Charming people, well equiped room, excellent breakfast
Lovely location,,great jams for breakfast!welcoming staff.
Helpful staff. Good location - short walk from town centre. Excellent, comfortable facilities.
Quirky taps! No washbasin plug.
We have stayed here before and loved it as much this time as last. The staff are very friendly, the rooms are great, beds large and comfortable, showers good. The breakfast is typical French cold buffet. There is no restaurant at Le Clos Margot, but we were able to use the breakfast area for bread and cheese. There are a few restaurants / cafes in Vertus which are good. We also had a tour of the Clos Margot champagne "production" area - very interesting. And of course the champagne was excellent! We will return.
That is was only two days! And the traffic is noisy, many tractors etc, but that was not a major concern.
Nice staff, even got a half bottle champagne as Welcome Gift. Clean and pleasnt rooms.
No warnings about a dog living there, not afraid but allergic. Very strange check-in hours.
Proper rural Champagne France Eat aat local restaurants in the evening Breakfast really good location interestingly discrete
