Score from 542 reviews Excellent
Superbly located in Portsmouth’s lively waterfront development, Gunwharf Quays, this hotel offers bright, modern rooms with buffet breakfasts. Stores, bars and restaurants are on the hotel doorstep.
Score from 1033 reviews Very good

Score from 591 reviews Very good
Very nice room with great views, well located near shore and shopping ( Gun Wharf Quay) Pleasant staff, good breakfasts, nice bar and bar meals.
No bad experience, but thought extra £5 per night for parking was inappropriate. Had to get toilet cistern fixed (attended promptly) and shower could have been more powerful.
Location, location, location
Room was very cold on arrival and bed was not really comfortable! The paying extra for overnight parking was not expected! Service staff, wakened us way too early for 11am check out and persistent to get us out!
Made very welcome by staff The fact we were able to get Sunday lunch despite being very busy
Hotel could be warmer
Having to pay on arrival rather than on departure . En-suite bathroom dangerous with stepped floor. Also little space for personal toiletries. Noisy heating system preventing sleep during 1st night of stay.
The grandeur and charm of an older hotel and the views over the approaches to Portsmouth harbour made our stay in the town all the more memorable. The space in the public rooms, particularly for breakfast, made a pleasant change from the cramped seating in more modern hotels.
The double room had a comfortable bed but was disappointingly small for such large hotel.
beautiful building ... friendly attentive staff ...lovely room ... excellent breakfast ... stunning location ... perfect
paying for parking :(
The solid sense of hoteling continuity - nice to see Victorian edifices holding their own
I like the hotel and all it has to offer
paying £5 to park your car is a disgrace. There could be some more reasonably priced food in the bar area
Friendliness of reception staff and the location.
In room 123 the TV is in state of disrepair with black tape hanging off wires & of poor quality. The toiletry products were of a low quality. The step up and down to the bathroom area is hazardous.
Atmosphere and staff were accommodating
The room was very good as were the facilities a lovely balcony with good view of southsea and the coast my girlfriend loved it and as she was happy so was I
very good location
asked for early morning alarm call. did'nt happen. complained in the morning but only got shoulder shrug from reception staff. very dissapointed.
No internet Paying extra for car park Low water pressure Decor a bit tired Bar prices
Spacious hotel, friendly, helpful staff. On site parking. Comfiest hotel bed ever. Good breakfast. Despite archaic plumbing will continue to stay here when in Portsmouth.
£5 per night charged for parking. Atrocious plumbing; great bathroom but insecure shower holder, feeble trickle from shower & from bath tap. Takes ages to fill bath with hot water.
Nice friendly and helpful staff.
Staff were very helpful .food good value for money .
Comfortable stay with welcoming staff
Nothing to say
I requested a king-size bed when I booked and this was not provided. Too tired to attempt to get this sorted.
The location and hotel staff were excellent. The sea view from the balcony was second to none.
Unfortunately there was no internet access and the tv channels were minimal.
Arrived at 21.20 and food was only served until 21.30 but the chef was kind enough to stay and cook me a meal, friendly staff, good location
Bed was very uncomfortable, there was no television remote in the room, shower was either very hot or freezing cold.
Great location and easy parking. Breakfast was hot and tasty with well cooked eggs, which is not always the case from a buffet. Great views from the room.
This may seem a small point but the devil is in the detail. The loo rolls are far from soft, they really need to change the brand, awful, reminded me of school. Also although the room wad pleasant, there was a really strong draft coming through the door to the balcony.
Location great, close to our daughter's home! Many shops and restaurants within a few minutes walk!
Our room was far too hot and the bed far too small! Rooms and public areas beautifully decorated but corridors grubby and old and in need of attention. Shame-I've wanted to stay here for many years but feel it was not worth the money.
room was very spacious and comfortable The waiter in the bar was helpful and gave our friends milk for their tea
no shower reception staff not friendly asked for £5 parking charge and upfront payment for room as if we couldn't afford it ! They did not know where razor point was in room our friends asked for extra milk and were told to go to the spar down the road! 1st order for breakfast was completely wrong then another waitress took over and it was fine.
on arrival (on crutches) told room on 3rd floor as lifts broken but will be fixed today.room given on 1st floor but with steps to bathroom.!st night wind howling through ill fitting windows which we reported nothing done.put papers into gaps so we could sleep.spoke to manager who said he has the same problem with lift as he lived in (not professional).Lift not working when leaving 48 hrs later and my husband helped an elderly lady from 3rd floor with her bags.No apology just excuses which is why they take your money on arrival. poor customer service and a lot of repairs needed.
