In the heart of the city, McLays Guest House is well located for visiting Glasgow’s many museums and art galleries and is just a short walk from lively Sauchiehall Street and Buchanan Street.

Great value for money. Breakfast choice is better than Premier Inn (chocolate croissants). Handy location for Charing Cross train station and Mitchell library.
Inconsiderate other guests slamming doors late into the night and loud voices in passageway outside room.
Had a fine time all around
Weather always the weather
Good breakfast .free wifi
Moody staff . Stained mattres.room not cleaned
Went to Glasgow on 18/12/14 to go to O2 abc in Sauchiehall St for UB40 gig. Travelled with a female friend, both in our 40's . Hotel was very close to where wanted, all the staff were very friendly and helpful . We had room 1 on the ground floor , recently refurbished with new beds ,good cotton linen and new furniture with a window that opened fully ( always a good point ) . Room was a good size with a double and single bed . Bathroom was smallish but had all you need ,(shower ,toilet and sink ) take your own toiletries, towels were of good quality and soft .Breakfast was freshly cooked to order along with a choice of cereals , yogurts ,fruits and juices /coffee/tea .We had a very nice stay and would use again without hesitation . Parking outside is only £2 not £6 as stated ,you get a voucher from the hotel to put in your car . Can not comment on wifi as we never used it . All in all we couldn't have got better for less (£34 all in )and have used far more expensive that haven't been as good ! Note: the hotel is still having some refurbishment done .
A leak from the toilet waste. Pipe had leaked under the flooring creating a terrible smell of urine, sorry but the disinfectant didn't mask the smell I'm addition we went down for breakfast at 3 minutes past nine on a Sunday morning and we're told breakfast stopped at nine, despite being told the previous night breakfast was until 9.30, sorry but the customer service from the 2 youngsters who we're busy on their mobile phones left lot to be desired ! I spent £120 and for not much more could have had a hotel from a major chain with guarantee service ..... And a breakfast!!
1) Bed comfortable. 2) Pillows comfortable and plenty. 3) Bed linen clean. 4) Towels clean. 6) Sufficient sockets 6) Staff not verbally rude. 7) Staff not discourteous. 8) Nice exterior/facade.
1) No ramp to front door - plenty of space to adapt one of the two accesses as there is bilateral access to reception 2) Having to ring doorbell each and every time returning to guest house as no separate front door key. 3) The stench of mould and damp of tiny en-suite, slightly larger than average airing cupboard 4) The black mould around each spray hole of the shower 5) Had to mop small pools of water on uneven floor (?accumulated water damage?) after shower as curtain a liitle short, resulting with some pooling of water around toilet base. 7) Nowhere to put used towels to dry except draped over radiator. 8) Only one towel holder, ring style, where a toilet roll holder would be well placed. 9) Only space for toilet roll is on top of cistern. 10) No shelf in en-suite to place toiletries, well, there was, but it was on floor behind sink, with short rusty nail protruding from wall where it had come off some time in the probable distant past. 11) No warning of small step hidden under carpet at breakfast room doorway. 12) Lack of smiles, warmth or friendliness from staff - obvious unhappiness at this establishment. Minimal politeness. 13) No guest lounge, but perhaps that's not a guest house requisite.
Was a great experience and the staff were very helpful
The walk up
Couldn't complain everything was nice, en suite room and the breakfast was really good. The guy in the reception was very friendly and helpful.
Location as this was close to friends we were visiting also this road runs parallel with Sauchiehall St Buchanan Galleries 15mins walk away. Good breakfast
Bathroom a bit bijou but OK for a short stay
Cleanless and facilities
The hotel is not far away from the street which is full of bar&restaurants
Toilet and shower room has to be shared with other customers
everything is nice and clean, very comfortable bed
Small, compact room; and it was a bit overpriced.
Shares toilet was dirty and always out of toilet roll and hand towels. Every morning there was less choice for breakfast which meant eating toast every morning. Towels were provided in the room all but one of the days and staff were friendly enough however they gossiped about other staff which left me feeling like I was being looked after by incompetent staff. I would stay here again as it wasn't the cleanest, walls are paper thin and it was generally quite noisy in the evenings and night and I was afraid to use the toilets late at night.
24hr access to the hotel made things easier for me and my pals and we had been out that night.
Breakfast finished too early.
For £50 this hotel offered excellent value for money. Rooms were compact but we only needed somewhere to sleep on a one night travel trip to collect a van! The room was clean and bed very comfortable. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and in no time at all. Huge selection of continental. We checked it at 01:30 am and were greeted immediately by a friendly staff member.
No complaints at the price we paid.
Clean and quiet.
We were unlucky with the bed, it was impossible to sleep because of the springs, which relied on the side.
Honestly it was great! 2 mins from all the bars etc 5 mins taxi to center of the town. Somewere to put our heads down at night! Will deffo be back! :)
staff brilliant as was the breakfast
Walking distance to most things, room was clean but stunk of bleach, bed was comfy. quiet at night.
The day time female staff member has the people skills and manors of a twig, Was not very welcoming at any stage. The shower blocked up first time we used it. Breakfast finished at 9 meaning everyone wanted to eat just before and there was not enough tables.
Handy for town. Relaxed.
Bit grubby and dusty. Bed kept sliding away from wall. No side lights working only main light.
Had to wait 15 minutes upon check in to be let into building despite buzzing and calling main desk, no apology for this. Same also happened following day upon return to hotel, no one at reception, also no one at reception to hand in room key when leaving building. Was awoken 3 times by fire alarm on final night with little explanation as to why this was happening. No disposable hand towels in communal bathroom.
the location is excellent, close to the city centre
too close to charing cross, too much noice outside the window
Breakfast served fast
For breakfast - you get what you're given - for God's sake ddon't ask for anything out of the ordinary
Nice place to stay at...a bit of a walk into town, but overall a good experience
Fire alarm going off at 3 am on the Wednesday morning , then repeatedly going off every 15 mins from 3 to 7 am in the morning before it was eventually shut off.
