Great value for money. Comfortable bed, awesome breakfast. Near lots of bars, restaurants, and a Tesco Express (Sauchiehall Street).
The bathrooms are not very nice, but ok for a short stay (ours was a 2 night). On the second night, a noise annoyed us a little bit while we were trying to sleep, but we didn't really asked the staff what was it, so maybe it isn't like that all the time.
Toilets were not in a great shape in terms of cleanliness
Thomas was so very helpful and friendly! Gave us directions for our days travels as well as educating us on all the political history of Northern Ireland. Such a welcoming bnb!
The hot water in the shower only lasted a couple minutes
Reception by young man on duty on evening of Friday 16.01.15 Did not like room booked so upgraded to ground floor en suite - much better room and upgrade was reasonably priced for what I got Location - ideal for conference at nearby Mitchell library and nearby restaurants for evening meal
Quality of original room reserved Mouldy window and nearby wall tiles in upgrade's en suite shower room Poor service at breakfast - supposedly breakfast is served from 7 am but waitress was not there at that time to take orders for cooked breakfast. Service was also desperately slow.
Proximity to city Centre, free wifi, price, friendliness of staff
Overall cleanliness of hotel, no plug in hotel room sink
Breakfast Staff location Wifi
The location The staff
The whole feeling was like being back in youth hostel times at school. Breakfast hours were far too short for holiday makers (finishing at 9am) and once you did make it to the breakfast room by 9 the service was very unfriendly and the choice and quality of food poor, so much so that we did not even have breakfast on our third day. We had booked another night on our return from Edinburgh a few days later but cancelled the reservation. Disappointing.
Great location, only few minutes from the main street. Friendly staff, nice breakfast
Old furniture, old room, shared bathroom wasn't very clean
It was close to the city centre, sauchihall street has lots of restaurants you can choose from. The room was very nicely decorated and cosy which made my stay good. Breakfast in the morning was amazing it had lots to choose from. The wifi was very good as I had no problems with it. The staff are very helpful when approached.
The room was modern and clean. Looked & smelled like it was recently remodeled. The sticker was still on the toilet. Walking distance from the city centre and plenty of pubs/fish shops on the next street over. Breakfast was good. For the price paid, overall it was a good stay.
The shower curtain-rod was broken and did not stay up. The shower itself was a power-shower which did not work on the higher setting and alternated between scalding hot and ice cold, without even touching it. Wifi was supposed to be free, but the password given did not work. Receptionist tried it herself and kept insisting that was the right password. This was not resolved. We were only staying for one night so all was tolerable.
Comfy bed, spacious and perfectly pleasant room
Easily walkable to centre but not bang in town, near big road, reception not consistently attended
I enjoyed my stay at the Charing cross guest house, would use this place again as its near where I was going out and all the staff members were very nice to us :)
The fact the cleaners left rubbish at the top of the stairs and it didn't get moved all day.
I'm a solo transsexual woman who wanted a break from the bigotry I get every day living in the North East of England Glasgow is built on a set of hills which posed a challenge as do steps getting into a building, this is a period property and access is via a large amount of steps but found the welcome great despite the pain to get into the Charing Cross Guest house Glasgow is also famous for the BBC 3 series Lip service about the lives, loves and heartache of a group of Lip Stick lesbian women living in Glasgow and found the place very Friendly to Lesbian Gay and Transgender people,I only had to correct a receptionist once when he called me sir Lovely breakfast each morning but missed the haggis on my plate to make it a truely Scottish breakfast and not an English one but that;s this wee lassie nitpicking. 10 minute walk to the city center via Sauciehall Street, plenty of cheap places to eat nearby and a great place to spend Hogmany, the Staff even worked new years day making breakfast and cleaning rooms, big comfy room kept clean and spotless
The steps could do with a handrail that's easy to grip for disabled guests, the ceramic tiles are very slippy on the steps up to the guest house when wet and could lead to an accident It was supposed to be 24 hour reception and I had to ring like mad to get back into the Guest house after Midnight two day's in a row Being Called Sir when I hold a gender recognition certificate by a receptionist and having to correct the asian gentleman, calling a transsexual woman sir is classed as a hate crime
A real english breakfast !!
far from the city center
Location. Breakfast. 24hr reception, so you leave your key and collect it upon your return.
Toilet/shower room was TINY. Parking in the area wasn't great, but ok if you don't mind paying.
Dated décor in common areas
Last minute deal with my husband, daughter and son in law, said we were saving £635.00 lol, must have meant £6.35 ,daughter nearly sick of the smell in room 9,was then moved to room 4 which was cleaner but still smelt terrible ,we got room 6 which was newly decorated but unfortunately gloss was still wet on doors, hallway and entrance in much need of a clean and paint,a bit too scared to try the breakfast so left early, cant see us returning
*Great staff very helpful *Great breakfast with wide range. *Rooms clean and fresh Was definitely value for money and will return again
Great value simple hotel in good location, an easy walk from the city centre stations. It was very clean and comfortable with friendly, helpful staff, both front of house and serving breakfast. It was an excellent breakfast provided. I've stayed in several small hotels/ B&Bs in Glasgow, including in this area, and this is undoubtedly the best. Our room was simply, but tastefully decorated and also very clean and very reasonable size. Wifi was also really good throughout the stay. Parking only £2 after 4pm till 10am. Would definitely recommend the charing cross to everyone. Price was reasonable and we'll worth my stay. Would definitely come back Again.
Everything was nice, nice bedding nice white linen to the comfy bed and we had been given one of the new renovated room which had a big plasma TV. Wifi was also free and it was available throughout the whole hotel. Parking only £6 all day. Breakfast was amazing it had everything, better than any premier Inn or travelodge offers. Definitely will be back AGAIN
Great value for money. Breakfast choice is better than Premier Inn (chocolate croissants). Handy location for Charing Cross train station and Mitchell library.
Inconsiderate other guests slamming doors late into the night and loud voices in passageway outside room.
Had a fine time all around
Weather always the weather
Good breakfast .free wifi
Moody staff . Stained mattres.room not cleaned
Went to Glasgow on 18/12/14 to go to O2 abc in Sauchiehall St for UB40 gig. Travelled with a female friend, both in our 40's . Hotel was very close to where wanted, all the staff were very friendly and helpful . We had room 1 on the ground floor , recently refurbished with new beds ,good cotton linen and new furniture with a window that opened fully ( always a good point ) . Room was a good size with a double and single bed . Bathroom was smallish but had all you need ,(shower ,toilet and sink ) take your own toiletries, towels were of good quality and soft .Breakfast was freshly cooked to order along with a choice of cereals , yogurts ,fruits and juices /coffee/tea .We had a very nice stay and would use again without hesitation . Parking outside is only £2 not £6 as stated ,you get a voucher from the hotel to put in your car . Can not comment on wifi as we never used it . All in all we couldn't have got better for less (£34 all in )and have used far more expensive that haven't been as good ! Note: the hotel is still having some refurbishment done .
