When we arrived at reception the member of staff on check in wasn't capable of sorting out problems that we had with our stay. No duty manager or never offered their assistance

Another chain hotel with plasticised mattress covers! Premier Inn have dropped theirs after many complaints. I woke up sweating profusely in the night, even though I had turned the heating off and opened the window wide. A shame, as otherwise the room was very good and comfortable.
All staff were unfailingly helpful without being over the top. Food was good, particularly breakfast where there was a good range available. Setting is superb, close to A4 without any intrusive road noise and beautiful grounds and countryside views.

Amazing stay, staff really friendly

Being told on arrival that the restaurant was fully booked so thought we'd have to go out again for dinner. Luckily it was a miscommunication as with baby and after day in car this was not viable. Fortunately we found that we could eat in the bar area!
Efficiency of putting cot in the room having found there wasn't one after specifically booking it. Amusement of a pillow being put in it too..our baby son hasn't quite progressed onto using a pillow!

Our room was quite hot, but luckily you could open the window!
Well presented, clean and welcoming. Beautiful building in lovely grounds.

Totally relaxing and the staff couldn't do enough for us. I would stay again at this hotel again and again.

1. Booked a twin, but was given a double. 2. Asked for a quiet room away from the road, but was given a room next to the road 3. Bathroom pedal bin had not been emptied. It contained previous resident's medication tablets. Lucky we don't have young children!
The location is lovely. Beautiful grounds and a stunning building

We were in the Mews bedrooms-room 14 & 15. 14 was tiny with no visible plugs-had to move the bed & cabinet to get to a plug! Old decor, literally a foot of space around the bed in the room and all for the extortionate price of £179 for a solo traveller!!
Food was good and the main building is lovely

Breakfast was OK but no porage. The room could have had biscuits and more breakfast tea bags. As for cleanliness this was lacking, dirt from shoes was still evident throughout the stay, needed a good hoovering and a going over with a duster would be nice.
Reception on arrival, good parking, lovely grounds.

Very friendly, helpful staff

rude waiter at evening meal was a very unpleasant experience. Salmon from the grill was very bland and flavorless and the meal needed substance other than the salad and nuts.
location, set up of rooms, appearance in general of staff very tidy and formal, and of the hotel itself, art work was nicely displayed.

Stayed here as visiting Highclere Castle. Lovely quite location, East to find and a short drive from Newbury.

Unfortunately noise from a wedding disco and some guest returning to their rooms was very irritating. Also the windows require some updating as they were very drafty.
The hotel was ideally located for visiting the local area and beyond. The room was very comfortable and staff friendly and professional.

Breakfast lacked organisation. No direction for what you had to do. Room could do with deep clean lots of mold on window. Felt the cleaners have far too many rooms to achieve a good level. Was told 25 rooms each.
Very good evening staff for our meal. Lovely location.

Booked a larger room with 4 poster bed. However as I am on the short side found it very difficult to get in and out of it! Not easy to watch tv from bed due to where it is sited.
The hotel is full of character with large rooms and open fire place - lovely. Only stayed 1 night on the way to the south coast. Would stay longer if in the area again.

Food was a bit expensive. One thing that frustrates me is always the lack of beer variety, we don't live in a world with 5 run of the mill beers any more, let's mix it up folks! Bring in the Crafts brews.
Food, rooms, lounge/bar area

Bedroom windows don't open. Was told they are doing this but not got to the room we stayed in. The dinner menu was bland. the half roast chicken I would have been better going to KFC for. The breakfast was cold so didn't go for breakfast on the second day and decided to stop at the services on the M40. The harry ramsden breakfast was cheaper and better quality. The staff were friendly engouh but felt that on the occasions we had to use the resturant or bar area the staff were a bit lacking and seemd to congregate around the reception so you had to hunt them down to get service. I have stayed in better 2 and 3 star locations in the area so although the grounds are very good the hotel itself is very much lacking.
The bed was the best

Being moved to an annex in woodlands where rooms are dated and need of modernisation
Setting of hotel in nice grounds
March 24, 2015
There was a wedding on and we were made to stay in the mews outside of the hotel which made it rather annoying anytime we wanted to go for a drink or to socialise. Think we would of enjoyed it much more if we could of stayed in the hotel and would of felt much more value for money
Friendly staff, beautiful surroundings

The accommodation is fine but considering that this is a 4 star hotel there are some minor issues. The rooms are tidy but somewhat tired and in need of updating. The toiletries provided in the room are a bare minimum and secondly the entertainment in the room was limited to the very basic Freeview TV package; anything extra like movies you have to pay for.
The location is idyllic and the buildings are superb as well as full of character. We really loved the open fireplaces and the staff were excellent. The food was very appetising and plentiful
March 17, 2015
Staff friendly and Helpful, Food good, service first class. Large room , spotlessly clean and allowed us to take our Dog
March 17, 2015
Hard uncomfortable bed Hard uncomfortable pillows Inflexible service ie no Afternoon Tea - was told I should have booked in advance I forget to book breakfast as room service - kitchen unable to support. Considering very quiet this would have helped revenue!
Location, quality of premises, room lovely
March 16, 2015
The pillows were undersize and hard
The breakfast and situation of the restaurant with superb views
