On acres of wooded parkland, this fascinating 13th-century fortress is on the banks of the River Esk.
Score from 105 reviews Very good
Room was very comfortable and quiet. Good location near transport to central Edinburgh.Breakfast was excellent.
Where else can you get a 3star hotel room with your own turret with views of Arthur's seat? Gorgeous building with character about 1 mile from the Royal Mile. We had 4 separate rooms and all were spotless and well fitted out. Bathroom excellent. Comfy beds, free WiFi and safety deposit box. We will go back.
Nothing. Couldn't fault hotel or service. Do not be put off by the fact it is set on a university campus. This means more space, free parking and set in lovely grounds.
Service was brilliant, breakfast was great and the bed was incredibly comfy! Would recommend this to everyone! Wished we'd booked it for longer! Approx 20-25min walk from the royal mile, just nicely not too central! Xx
Car parking Easy to get into city by bus or walk Bus stop right outside front gate Breakfast great quality and made to order Free quick wifi
Loved the Breakfast in particular but just the place it was great.
it was clean comfortable and cosy, breakfast very good in mason hotel lovely eating area and well presented
tv not working on day 1 but was fixed breakfast in Salisbury not so good not the same standard of presentaion on plate and very small dining room
Right next to swimming venue. Very friendly staff, good value for money with excellent breakfast. Room was comfy with everything we needed. Bathroom was really clean (looked fairly new) and the shower worked exactly as we wanted (not often the case in lower rated accommodation). The whole experience was so enjoyable - I would highly recommend this hotel.
Quiet rooms Close to University area View from my third floor window
Because I was on the top floor, the WiFi coverage was a bit patchy, but otherwise, nothing!
Decent size of room, good facilities in room & building, lovely bathroom with shower; excellent breakfast, great location.
Two single beds pushed together instead of a double; TV wouldn't work (staff did try to fix it)...
I enjoyed the location and is only a half hour walk to City Centre. It is a great location and there is a shop and places to eat in Pollock Halls. We hage been before and will be back and would recommend mend it to anyone.
It was ashame that the breakfast was not in the Hotel itself however the staff were excellent and the breakfast and buffet was amazing.
If you have a child studying at the University of Edinburgh and living at Pollock Halls then this is a wonderful location.Taxis are waiting nearby and the bus line is close, for easy transportation to the center of the city.Rooms, and bathrooms are clean and comfortable and staff friendly and helpful. Good value for the money. Breakfast is fine. This hotel was the perfect place for our family to stay while visiting our daughter.
The location was great, a stones throw from Arthur's seat and holyrood palace!
Didn't like having to check in at another location, also room service was not very efficient due to one person being in reception at the other location and couldn't leave the desk!
The proximity to city centre and public transport links were excellent.
staff very helpful and friendly
theres no atmosphere in the hotel because it's isolated
Rooms spacious, clean, lovely bathroom, fast wifi
Double bed was two single mattresses put together so not that comfy, reception don't answer the phone, breakfast small portions, too far from Edinburgh center to walk to the attractions
Location, cleanliness, value for money
It's quiet, being away from the bustle of the City and has more than adequate car parking, as well as a manned security gate as it is within the University complex
Lovely old building with excellent facilities, great value for money. Very convenient for visiting university Pollock Halls. Not far to walk into old town.
Had to wait for breakfast on Saturday due to the size of room which could have been mentioned when checked in,
Location was ok onto pricess gardens. Staff were very very helpful after a couple of key problems.
The location, quiet, room 16, interesting building, familiarity (our 4th stay), the Observer on Sunday morning, proximity to our family.
Having to go to Masson House for breakfast in the rain.
Very comfortable and clean, easy to take a bus to the city center.
We ended up being in a rush in the morning and didn't realize there would be a long wait for a breakfast table, so I asked if I could grab a muffin or something for us to take in the cab on our way to the airport, but we were told that food wasn't allowed to leave the dining room. So we didn't get any of the included breakfast.
Location, quiet room.
Check in was a challenge and there were no staff at the hotel.
Comfort and size of room fantastic.Breakfast choice and quality was excellent.Great location for our requirements but maybe just a little far out if wanting to be close to the centre of city.Nice stroll into town though and taxi's and buses at had if needed.Definitely would recommend this place to stay.
Check-in is in another building but relatively easy to find.
the location was excellent for our visit because our daughter attends Edinburgh University. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful.
No comment, everything was fine.
Lovely big room, very clean. Good pub and restaurants not far away, walking distance, and easy to walk to centre of Edinburgh itself in 20 minutes. Nice and quiet and good for parking to be free on site.
