restaurant was great for breakfast but dinner was a bit hit & miss with mix up over tables and which meal went where!
Excellent location and very good atmosphere.
The Grand Central is a beautiful hotel in the heart of Glasgow. The atmosphere is classy and hints at the hotel's charming history but without being stuffy or old-fashioned. Our room was clean and spacious and very comfortable. Staff was always helpful and accommodating. Would readily stay here again.
The walls to the hall seem to be on the thin side so I do recommend ear plugs to avoid being woken up by late-night hallway chatter and door slamming. Unlimited wi-fi would also have also been nice.
The room had recently been refurbished to a high standard, it was very clean and the facilities provided were very good. Excellent location for the train station and also for getting around the city.
The train announcements all night till 2400 hours and then started up at 0500 hours
The rest of the stay was a great experience. One of the best ( of many) hotels I have stayed in.
Free Wifi would have made it faultless. So easy to put this right - come on guys!
Early check in
The location is superb and the staff were everywhere excellent. The dinner I had on my arrival was very good, and the breakfasts were excellent. I couldn't fault it. But see over....
Only one thing - my room was like an icebox on my arrival. I rectified this with the heater provided, but it seemed a bit like 1950s B&B style in Stranraer having to do that.
Clean & convenient with some style.
Lifts were slow. Got up early on Sunday morning waited between 5 and10 mins for the water to run hot. I waited sufficiently long to call reception to find out if there was a hotel wide problem. Room 462 at the every end of the long corridor.
The location was excellent. Everything you needed was right on your doorstep. The hotel had a traditional look but with all the modern facilities available.
Strangely for us, we could not find any fault at all.
No coffee or tea in the bedroom, even though a kettle was provided - a surprise for a hotel in this range. Poor lighting in the bathroom mirror. Heating is automatically switched off at night, so for those who are "owls" or jet-lagged, prepare to feel cold
clean and spacious staff helpfull and friendly
breakfast over priced and overdone
No heating in room , very cold. Hot water in bath and shower not hot enough , it was a bit noisy on Friday night from outside ,a disco or something going on till early hours.
I was very impressed with the standard of this very impressive hotel. The building is massive inside and fairly opulent. Good breakfast and very good value for money. It is also very handy for down town and I would stay here again.
Bathroom is a bit old fashioned with the shower in the bath also because the room is huge it is not that warm. We booked a family room thinking I was getting two double beds and what we got was a super king and sofa bed. But saying that the super king was very comfortable.
The smiling professionalism of the predominantly young staff; the quality of the food and the service in the restaurant.
The loud drunks in the street below in the early hours of the morning - the downside of a city centre hotel.
I was travelling alone, by rail, and chose the hotel on the basis of location to be convenient for the next day's rail journey. Even with the window open ( I like fresh air) it was surprisingly quiet and the bed was blissfully comfortable. A really good powerful shower helped set me up for an early start the next day. I chose not to have breakfast because of the early start so can't comment on that. Haven't stayed in the hotel for 20 years and thought it had been nicely refurbished. In truth this is a little pricier than I'd normally choose but not having to pay taxi fares helped and it was worth it for sheer convenience.
Not much! One tiny quibble is that there was no list giving TV channel numbers and I spent ages trying to find BBC news 24!
Was disappointed with the size of the standard double room. Felt like a single room with a double bed in it.
Central location, rain forest showers for two , room service
Small room size , lifts difficult to negotiate out of initially until trick learnt about big silver button ...why the big silver button ?
Location Atmosphere Champagne bar Problem resolving - excellent response
'Junior Suite' - not a suite. Don't fall for the upgrade. Couldn't even walk round my side of the bed, room too small!
Room very noisy you could hear every noise outside and felt like a street party in our room . This was never four star quality and expensive additionally there was no attention to detail such as the sparking water was unsealed and flat and therefor a hygiene /health issue .There was robes on bed but NO slippers
The staff and their welcome
The window that when shut still allowed noisy wind to howl all night and the plug-in heater that substituted for the lack of normal central heating. Also the Grand Central is the only hotel of the four I stayed in this trip that charged (£5) for WiFi - all the rest were FREE!
Excellent location Comfortable relaxing room Helpful staff Ambience of the bar
Would be better if breakfast was included
Location, Very clean, good shower.
The heating system waking us up before 7am. Sounded like a pneumatic drill and went on for ages. Then started up again once we managed to get back to sleep.
Friendly staff comfortable room and central location
Noisy guests in the early hours of the morning
