It's my first time visit Palembang. Some people said nothing special. However maybe yes, maybe not. I think depend on how we look into, enjoy and have fun. I feel okay. Nice city with good icons like Ampera bridge, Belido statue, Sultan Mahmud Badarudin Mosque, City fountain, Cheng-Ho Mosque, River Side restaurant, Monpera Monument, Benteng Kuto Besak Plaza, Jakabaring Sport Center, a giant Al-Quran Museum, Songket Museum and Kemaro Island. I tried to ride a boat on the Musi-river, it was fun and an exciting experience. Another thing is the culinary. The famous ones are pempek, brengkes tempoyak, pindang, martabak, mie celor, tekwan, model dan sambal buah. Try it at the famous place and the sensation is really delicious. There is also dodol Lempok made from durian fruit and various kinds of fish crackers (kerupuk Palembang).
For me, Palembang is a pleasant city with delicious culinary delights.

Nice people, city is clean and modern.
Nice people, city is clean and modern. More can be done for tourism. Most tourist attractions are only in Bahasa Indo which makes it hard for non native speaker to understand. Attractions are also poorly maintained which is a shame for a place so rich in history

I have visited Palembang twice and i have found new things to see and do both times. There are many interesting sights around the national monument area Montperra which has a small museum inside and you can browse the items on your way to the top of the building, for the more adventurous of you, climb out onto the roof and see the views of Ampere bridge, the river and the Great Mosque.
Toward the river there is the museum housed in an old colonial building which has the story of the city and artifacts from its history housed inside. You can the walk a few hundred yards to the Fort area and also the open area beside the river. On an evening this is a lively market area with games and attractions for the young and not so young, to browse and enjoy.
A few hundred yards away there is the impressive Ampere bridge waiting for your selfies and photos.
Below there is a bustling market chock full of everything.
I would recommend having a taxi for the day to take you to the many other interesting places this city has to offer if you are adventurous.
The staff , the location , the breakfast menu was very Asian which i loved , but did cater for westerners also.
Being hardly any westerners go to Palembang , I was surprised that some of the staff could speak a little English, so well done. I need to learn Bahasa.
Palembang apparently has a high crime rate and me being a westerner in a city were nearly everyone is traditional Muslim , to be careful. I went to Palembang Square and other places and never once felt uneasy and people were always polite.
Hotel location best. Near cafes, gift/souvenir shop, good neighborhood, city center, easy access. Fast & friendly check in/check out. Comfort room. Friendly staffs. A great breakfast with introduce traditional local food menus.
