Loved the quaint little town and the shops, restaurants and pubs available to us. Also, the grocery store was very well stocked and the SPAR there had laundry facilities that we so badly needed to use.

There is so much to see. I'm a walker and we were able to access many great walks - mountain, sea and forest walks. We had a car to get to locations. Good location for exploring Connemara. Fabulous scenery. Plenty places to eat in the evenings.

A beautiful area in the National Park.
A beautiful area in the National Park. The little town centre was quite vibrant for such a remote area and lots of independent cafes and shops It was possible to do manageable walks (even for us oldies)

Cliftden was great with plenty of places to eat and drink.
Cliftden was great with plenty of places to eat and drink. There is a very well stocked supermarket in the town and the surroundings were very clean and well maintained. Getting a local taxi was a bit of a problem so we had to drive everywhere, which didn't allow us to have a drink in the town as our accommadation was about 3 miles outside the village.
We loved everything about the property. It was clean, warm, so well equipped with lovely additional touches such as fresh bread and cake.
It was a 5 minute walk to the beautiful village of Clifden.
we stayed 3 nights in the apartment at Buttermilk Lodge as part of a2 week tour of Ireland. The rest of the time we stayed in hotels and honestly, the apartment was our favourite place of the holiday.
ps a big thank you for the post that was waiting when we retuned home
From arriving we knew we had found a special place, if only we lived closer! The location is lovely, so too are all the staff. The owner was very welcoming and invited us to tour the hotel and gardens. You will not be disappointed with this hotel, we loved everything about it, cosy lounge and great bar...the food was also amazing in the restaurant. Don't hesitate to book this place, when we plan another trip to Ireland we won't hesitate to re-book!
The cottage is picturesquely and conveniently located just outside the town of Clifden. It's location (just off the main road) means you have easy access to the Westport - Galway Road, as well as to the town, without all the traffic noise. The bedrooms are a good size and comfortable and the kitchen and utility are adequately equipped for short stays, where guests are likely to eat out a portion of the time.
The property is brilliantly maintained and is warm and welcoming. Everything is clean, the rooms and ensuites are sparkling and the breakfast was excellent. It was February and the heating was very evidently on which made for a really comfortable stay. The facilities are better than many hotels. The property is very close to, but not on, the main social area of Clifden. There is car parking as well.
Stuart and Ruth’s accommodations are perfect! The home is in a beautiful location, wonderfully decorated with incredible memorabilia, and so very clean. The breakfast is amazing- best we have had in our three weeks travelling around Ireland and the UK. We definitely recommend that anyone planning on visiting the Clifden area make it a point to stay at Hillside Lodge- you won’t be disappointed!

The hotel has wonderful, professional and so friendly staff. Breakfast is wonderful, fresh and served by a lovely staff. I highly recommend Hawthorn Lodge!
