It is often said that everyone should visit Kumbakonam at least once in their lifetime to truly experience the rich history and culture of India. Words cannot do justice to the incredible experiences this city has to offer. Everywhere you go, you will be surrounded by Indian spirituality - from the massive temples to the water bodies and greenery, Kumbakonam offers a truly unique and delightful experience for those seeking it.
Kumbakonam is also known as the karmabhoomi of Raghavendra Swami and other saints, and is home to many Muths belonging to different faiths. For Shaivas, it is considered a Bhu-Kailas, while for Vaishnavas, it is a Bhu-Vaikuntha - a true spiritual haven for all who visit.

The area is full of temples built decades/centuries before. Had chance to visit and pray in Navagraha Temples.
There are number of small and medium size veg restaurants in and around. Food is of good quality and reasonably priced.
Most of the hotels don't have attached restaurants.
Hiring a taxi is the comfortable way of reaching out to temples within stipulated time.
Taxi fare is reasonable though not according to Govt fixed rates.

One can find hundreds of old temples around Kumbakonam and it is not possible to cover everything in a few days.
Most of the Hindus travel over here to cover Navagraha temples which are nearby. You may need one or two days to cover all along with a few main temples like Swamimalai is one of the six abodes of the Lord Karthikeyan/Muruga/Subramani.
The nearest railway station is Kumbakonam and the airport is Tiruchi.

It's a temple city ... basically, you see prominent temples everywhere.. The entrance would be on a small corner road.. but inside the temple would be huge.. In some temples, Reconstruction is going on.
If we preserve these temples in a better way they will add significant value to our culture and our tourism to flourish, but most temples are being neglected and their beauty is getting eroded.

Tamil-speaking visitors who know which temples they want to visit should be delighted by Kumakonam and its surroundings. For others... The temples are very spread out and outside the city, so hiring a car and an English-speaking guide is indispensable. And the critical mass of foreign tourists visiting there seems too small for this to be readily available as it is in places like, say, Hampi.
We don’t know where to start. This place is a wonder of Kumbakonam. A hidden treasure shall we say.
We’ve only stayed for one night, but we were filled with mind peace. Welcoming staff, spiritual atmosphere, Clean rooms and a thriving complimentary morning tea !!! What else would you want . Please do visit ! Highly recommended to all your friends. Love from UK, Netherlands, France
Hotel GM Balaji is super committed to provide excellent customer service. He provided us timely updates and proactively helped us to improve our travel itinerary as well. Also I noticed that other hotels are providing only sofa cum bed for the 3rd occupant which is not comfortable, where as this hotel have proper bed for all the guests.
Kuteeram is a Gem. Clean, very well maintained, Viswanath and his family go out of the way to take care of your needs. Built in a traditional style. Vishwanath made a meal for us, as we had landed there without having any food. All in all a lovely place and I will stay there again, on visits to Kumbakonam
Location wise it is slightly out of way . Food was great.
we checked in early in the morning around 5 am and checked our same night around 9.30 pm .
We ended paying for 2 night stay - however at our request hotel management agreed to offer some discount for early check out .
Nice and peaceful , mostly good was good but there were two chefs one was extremely good the other wasn’t good when we pointed out that the food wasn’t good though they excluded the dish from being billed the chef didn’t seem to take it well. Overall a great place to stay
It is a renovated hotel. Room was spacious. Bathroom was also big. Our stay was good. We did not have food though. Located at City centre. All amenities nearby. Good value for money. Courteous staff. Well furnished. Local refer to this a erstwhile VPR Lodge.
Excellent hotel.. great ambience with positive vibes. Courteous staff. Good food but on the expensive side.
They were nice enough to serve us hot filter coffee that 3 am.
Will surely visit again

Brand new hotel - everything was spic and span! The room was spacious and state-of-art I can say. In the heart of Kumbakkonam - walkable distance from a couple of big temples.
Everything else was good, especially the hospitality. They even arranged internal transportation for us and food when requested. Thank you so much Hotel Atlantis.
Book only if you have no other option. The hotel is located in prime area. There was a good restaurant in the ground floor which had tasty vegetarian food.
