This stay was a horrible experience. I booked one room for a friend and his wife. I also booked one room for myself in what appeared to be a very good hotel. The hotel has an unbelievably poor downstairs arrival foyer. We did not book budget rooms, but two standard double rooms. We were given two 4th floor "back" rooms. The rooms were a disgrace - curtains with hanging threads, an appalling stepped-up platform to the window with no views, bland walls with no pictures, peeling paint, no character, etc.
We returned after dinner for a drink before retiring to bed. The receptionist, who was also in charge of the bar, knew nothing about Scotch or how much to pour (at a 3 star hotel in Florence?) but kindly allowed my friend to pour his own (a rare bonus!). On arrival at their room, my friends discovered that they had no water - a problem for washing hands, using the bathroom and accessing drinking water. He phoned reception. Instead of being offered another room with water, or at least bottled water, nothing was done.
At 0800 the next morning, the noise coming from the floor above was deafening - banging, clanging, scraping - perhaps plumbers at work to fix the water problem - and meant that the hoped-for sleep-in was aborted.
Breakfast was ordinary and barely passable. The scrambled eggs had been scrambled some time ago (yesterday?) and were stuck to the bottom of the tray. Trays which are usually refrigerated in most hotels were not. How long had the ham, cheese, butter, etc been sitting without any cooling or refrigeration?
I rarely write negative reports to Booking.com. In fact, this is the worst I have ever written after many years of extensive travel. I was provided with this hotel's details via one of Booking.com's "Genius Deals". I hardly feel like a "genius" having booked this hotel.
The views (not from the rooms) and location, but please read the didn't like comments.
