a wonderful place with so much to do - the sacre monte, lots and lots of historic gardens, in walking distance the Villa Panza with amazing art and gardens - have lunch there it is fabulous. Also just staying by the pool with its views is amazing it's a shame it closes it 7pm - it really warrants longer hours.

Despite traveling to Italy yearly, I had never visited Varese until now. I was initially hesitant to stay in Varese since I needed to be within an hour from Milan for the Salone del Mobile, but I was pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the city. Varese was vibrant both during the day and at night, with a plethora of excellent restaurants and cafes to explore. Its proximity to the stunning lakes of Como and Varese was also a huge plus. The sight of the snow-covered Alps provided a picturesque backdrop that made Varese even more special. The charming cobbled streets in the city center were lined with pretty buildings that showcased the history of the area. Although we only stayed for two days, I could have easily extended my stay for a week or more.

Varese is a great location for "lake hoping", where every day we saw a different lake. I recommend two restaurants: The Hotel Colonne and La Vecchia Varese. Both have excellent and authentic food, with friendly staff and wonderful service.

We traveled to Varese for 3 days to see the Sacro Monte located a few miles outside the town - part of a self guided tour of these unique sites in Lombardy and the Piedmonte. We ventured into the old town in search of a restaurant one night which was pretty frustrating - mostly bars and fast food in that area, so we ate at the hotel the other nights. The town is a mixture of beautiful older Italian villas and awful 1960’s and ‘70’s apartment buildings - kind of a hodgepodge. The areas in the hills around Varese are lovely with beautiful views.

We were passing through.
We were passing through. By bike we made a great tour into the mountains. Varese itself is not too interesting: just a rich-peoples city with good restaurantfacilities.
You can visit the lake(s) for a swim, you can bike and walk in the mounrains.
This hotel is the most romantic, private and fun place we have been in awhile.
The kindness from the people there was amazing. They helped us with everything.
I really liked that even tho it was an old establishment it was very clean and well kept
This is a ROMANTIC HOTEL
The bad reviews are so unfair. If you wanted chicken nuggets or a hamburger for dinner this is not the right hotel for you. They serve nice well portinioned food and delicious wine.
In a very private setting.
Yall are mad about everything for no reasons lol
Very nice restored hotel with a lot of charm, very friendly staff and good service, good breakfast and excellent restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere, great view from the terrace and certain rooms.
Be aware that you're remote on a hill above Varese, but that's what makes this place special. Nice surrounding area with a lot of possibilities for hiking, etc..
Visiting Varese and traveling by train and bus/cable car is possible and quite easy, even with luggage (hotel helps with timetables).
The location is perfect for an overnight stay when traveling to Italy further down south. There's some great bars and restaurants nearby at walking distance, and a bit of ambiance in the streets so you don't feel isolated. We were happy that our rooms were not on the street-side, so we didn't hear any noise from the bar below the hotel.
Breakfast was incredible, especially for Italy. Bacon, eggs, good coffee, a selection of pastry and cakes, orange juice, etc.
Spectacular location on a hill overlooking Varese and with a view of the lake in the distance. Hotel was built in 1913 and retains the style of that period with grand reception and entrance. Twin room was large and had very comfy beds. Large bathroom with bath/shower and bidet. Very good breakfast which due to Covid restrictions is not self service. There is an outdoor pool and restaurant which I did not use.
Incredibly pretty hotel. It's a pity we couldn't use the SPA during our stay. We were staying in Varese for a wedding and the position was very convenient for us. The whole staff is incredibly nice and welcoming, we arrived at 3a.m in the morning due to an awful strike going on at Milano Malpensa on that day and they were ready for us at any time.
The host is very kind and helpful. Although we arrived at midnight she waited for us and welcomed us with kindness. The apartment and room are very clean, very cozy like home. the breakfast good and plentiful. The location is perfect for the city center and the train stations. I highly recommend this place.
Beautiful early 19th century building with a rich history. I used to live in Varese and would see the hotel throning over the city every day, but I had never stayed there. We loved the newly renovated and stylish pool. Also the opulent breakfast buffet in a grand room with spectacular views of Lake Varese.
The place was SO unique, very comfortable, and a great location to everything. Dante was a great host bringing wine at night and breakfast in the morning. Varese was an excellent stop, delightful town and Dante was a great host. Next time I go there, I will def stay there again!!
Wonderful breakfast (fresh fruits, cakes, cereals etc), quiet rooms, very friendly service. We had been staying here 3 years ago on the way to Tuscany and were happy to see that the hotel was as good as we remembered. We will be back when visiting Italy again in the future.
We enjoyed staying at Hotel Capolago. Our rooms were very comfortable and beautifully equipped. It was nice to park the car close to the hotel room and having a direct access from the room to it !
Without a doubt the most impressive part of the hotel experience was the gentleman on reception who I believe is called Costa.Incredibly polite and helpful a true asset to the company.
Really great place to stay in Varese. Easy walk to train or amazing onsite parking if you are driving. Super nice staff. Spacious, clean, modern room. Strong wifi. Lovely breakfast.
Located in the center of town, this boutique hotel is perfect. Beautiful room with a balcony and a large bathroom, parking space and nice breakfast. Perfect for a city break
