A bit dated and run down by UK standards. 2 single beds pushed together to make a double was very uncomfortable if you like to be cosy.
Staff were generally a bit grumpy and unattentive at both the hotel and the pool bar. I think they were under managed, and very hot and tired, most working 8am-12pm or more in 36 degrees. We got used to ordering drinks and asking for the bill at the same time to avoid waiting longer.
Free wifi was generally slow, and kicks you out after a few minutes. Wifi at the local cafes were better.
Great location, within 20 min walk of Valletta ferry, harbour and St. Julian's with plenty of places to eat and drink along the way.
Hotel a bit dated and run down but generally clean and tidy and all the facilities are there. Breakfast was of reasonable quality, and a large choice.
Private swimming from the rocks and salt water swimming pool was all nicely kept and we made good use. Sun loungers at a premium so get down before 9:30 am. Food from the beach grill was nice, and beer was cold and tasty.
Sea view room was a decent size and shower was good. Decent mini bar and prices not rediculous.
Masons' cafe right opposite the hotel was great, we used it a lot, staff above average there (not part of prelena hotel but right opposite).
Weather was great for us for all 10 days, 30-36 degrees and often a pleasant breeze.
Some great boat/jeep trips on offer and can be booked at the hotel lobby.
Blue lagoon recommended for a look, beautiful but very busy, don't expect it to be relaxing.
Much better atmosphere from staff and locals during the day when temperatures drop at bit.
No sandy beach here, just flat rock but lots of people make use of it, including the local families, nice to see.
Get a bus or boat to the beaches for the day if that's what you are after for a change.
Only iffy service at most places let Malta down, we run a busy pub ourselves in the UK so we are probably more patient and understanding than most, be aware if you are not a laid back relaxed person!
Was not the cheapest hotel available by far but available dates suited us and we didn't leave feeling ripped off.
