We stopped to play golf, and to savour the local cuisine.
We stopped to play golf, and to savour the local cuisine. We were not disappointed. The course at Royal Perak Golf Course was in good condition. We enjoyed our afternoon of golf.
Earlier we stopped in town for nasi ganja. We were delighted with our lunch which was half the price of a similar meal in KL.
For breakfast the next morning we stopped at Hollywood and enjoyed fried kwaytiau, prawn mee and kopi susu.
Once done we headed out of Ipoh via Simpang Pulai. The traffic on that Tuesday morning was flowing well.

Ipoh city at least the area near the river is fairly run down. The park on the river is run down and litter is abundant on the river bank area. This is no surprise to me as its common across SE Asia countries. Walking around is not recommended in the hot weather, use Grab or other services. Forget the local bus service. The tourist spots in the old city are worth seeing but the rest is really you normal shops and businesses.
Crossing the road is tricky unless you are at a set of traffic lights. These are not so common.
I feel Ipoh has not a lot of charm, we tried hard to look for it. We did meet friendly people.
I don't think I would come back again to Ipoh.

Nice old town with much untouched straits settlement...
Nice old town with much untouched straits settlement architecture. In comparison, those in Singapore, Penang and Malacca have been preserved and updated. But you can still find original or close-to-original buildings in Ipoh. Food was great! Especially the street food. Notable must-try cuisine would be the Salted Chicken (may not be to everyone's liking), Stir Fired Bean Sprouts, Ipoh Hor Fun (a different league!) and Ipoh White Coffee (coffee with condensed milk). Worth visiting the cave temples (there are a few and they are not close to one another!) on the outskirts as the atmosphere is pleasing. Just googled 'Temple Caves in Ipoh'. If you have the time, go out of Ipoh to Kelly's Castle (a British style castle), the Tanjung Tulang Tin Dredge (a look into Ipoh's glorious past as a tin mining town) and Cameron Highlands (cooling & refreshing getaway from the hot tropical sun).

I love Ipoh because the food is great, the old town is easy and fun. I have friends there so it is different. I don't care for much of the rest but they are there if you want to do it. Make sure you have lots of space in your lugguage to buy your yummy snacks and gifts home.

This was only a short stop over for me.
This was only a short stop over for me. And it was mainly for food.
Had the Beggar's Chicken which was brilliant and the tau foo fah at Funny Mountain was brilliant. The one we usually went to (near Concubine Lane) was closed and we found this one at Funny Mountain. It was so good we went back the next day to have another go before leaving Ipoh.
Our morning breakfast was Dim Sum at Zhen Hi Hao which is brilliant. The atmosphere was great. It was not noisy like some of the other "so-called" popular ones. And the food is truly good. I highly recommend this place for Dim Sum.
First I really enjoyed staying in this hotel the facility & services satisfies the fee charged. The price was really affordable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They provided high-tea & breakfast for free and the food was really delicious. For a 3 star hotel they provided a 4/5 star rage services. The room was cleaned and maintained well. Myself & my husband really like this hotel and If we comes again to Ipoh definitely will stay in this hotel in future. We really had a great stay on our 6th wedding anniversary😍
1. The two counter staff, Bella and Ling, were exceptionally impressive. Their hardworking effort in finding us car park space were outstanding compared with 5 star hotels. They went out of the way to help guests. Extremely polite and courteous.
2. The room was spacious. Unlike many budget hotels
3. The location is 2nd best in town cf what is available and where we stayed before. Directly behind is Foh San dim sum. Walking distance to everywhere central.
I think my review title says it all! My room was quiet and cosy, the staff were always smiling and helpful when I asked something, and the hotel is in a great location near a variety of restaurants, right next to a Sunday morning street market, and about 10 minutes walk from the fascinating old town. Ipoh is an interesting small city to visit, and Pi Hotel is a good value base for your trip.
The friendliness of the staff was remarkable and you can tell they loved their city and want to invite visitors to tour around. Also it is remarkable to find new boutique hotels like Bedrock doing their best to recover downtown areas of the Ipoh in process to be fully restored. I loved the shower, the pressure and size was very comforting after a long and hot day touring the city.
All staffs are friendly esp the Indian receptionist woman. They hired a guard at night for the guests' car safety and he did his job very well. I wasn't expecting the hotel will be that good. The room has the standard size but everything seemed perfect. It's neat, clean and offered incredible space for that room size. For a minimalist like me, I love this hotel.
Clean, tidy, quiet, huge room, friendly owner, 5 stars toilet finishes with marble top and granite wall and floor tiles not usual for a homestay some more with centralised air-conditioning....proper hotel facilitated unlike homestay... everything is so considerate bed, bedsheets, towels, drinks, coffee, s
Biscuits, etc.
Highly recommended for family or group travel. The location of the hotel is excellent for tourists because it is close to Ipoh's popular attractions. Don't worry got a hairdryer, an iron for clothes, and a refrigerator for girls hehe...very good accommodations with a wonderful host-led tour. Worth every last dime.
The location is superb.. Near to everywhere we need to go.. Did not expected got bathtub in the room as the hotel did not mention in the ads. Welcome snacks is good, my husband likes it a lot. The breakfast also so Ipoh, and they included their signature roasted chicken in the menu. Parking area is acceptable.
The hotel was beautiful and very comfortable, excellent value for money. The utilities were very convenient as we were able to do our laundry and have everything dry before leaving Ipoh. Japanese restaurant is very good, but the best find for breakfast are the 2 restaurants in the same street as the hotel.
The room was spacious, windows can be opened slightly. The room was clean and pretty especially the bathroom. I love that the staffs are very friendly. In the lobby of the hotel, there is also a coffee shop name Old Town Grand, which has the famous Ipoh white coffee.
Good experience for my 1st stayed at Ipoh. The room is very clean & comfortable enough for 2 people. The Indian/Sikh staff was amazing. He is very helpful to make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting downtown
The room was clean, the view was nice, the breakfast was delicious. I was really happy because it was near to my target location. The 7 Eleven shop was next to the hotel, fantastic! Really recommended for any traveller coming to Ipoh.
The hotel is located in Ipoh downtown (not far from Ipoh parade), plus walking distance to food courts/food stalls/ restaurants. The room is clean and tidy, i love the king size bed and spacious bathroom!
The accommodation is located right in the center of Ipoh old town, its location is excellent. The hotel also has an interesting architecture with creative layout. The staff are helpful and friendly too.
1. The bed and pillow were very comfortable to sleep on
2. Location - places of interest in ipoh are within a very short drive from the hotel
3. Fast and smooth check-in and checkout process
Hotel is situated very close to the Old Town of Ipoh and is walking distance to all the attractions, specially the heritage trail. There are plenty of restaurants near to the hotel.
property is a big business like hotel but it’s in walking distance to Ipohs food street and old town. our room was large with beautiful windows that look at the mountains.
well located ex-Ibis hotel near the old town in Ipoh.
good shower: very welcome after some days in Cameron Highlands
Staff is very nice and helpful
good value
Very clean room and toilets, comfortable and cozy, truly enjoy my stay here, and the staff is very friendly too, highly recommended hotel to stay in Ipoh.
