Traditional architecture, quiet location, good food. Most of the staff is polite and helpful
Frequent power outages some lasting 6-8 hours. They don't use generator as often as they could. Cold showers, very noisy echoey hallways. Padlock doors are very noisy and woke me up every time someone entered their room. For price I expect hot water and 24 hr power
the temple is quite beautiful building .
the room is bad ,
Kantimpur Temple House was a good choice for Thamel Kathmandu Nepal. The staff was very friendly and helpfull and the room was very clean. The hotel is run with an eco friendly attitude which we appreciated sincerely the location is perfect giving you the opportunity to move around.
The negative points to be stressed out are that online there is no mentioning that due to the eco friendly attitude of the hotel there is no electricity on a 24 hour basis but at least you are given a schedule of the electricity so that you know which is the best time to shower with hot water. Also there are no fire extinguishers at least as far as we looked in case of a fire, bare in mind that this is a beautiful traditional nepali hotel with wooden floors and wood details on the ceilings.
Food was delicious -- staff was extremely attentive -- thanks to Suman and Binesh for being great hosts at the hotel. Staff was so accommodating to all of our needs (arranged private driver (request Ramm - he's amazing), tourist/sight questions, etc. Manager also allowed us to use 2 of our lost nights due to flight cancellations prior to arriving at hotel. Definitely will stay here again -- hopefully, soon.
Absolutely nothing to write here.
Friendly, helpful staff, nice gardens with outside seating, atmospheric building.
Rooms a little cold, although this was in early February - the cool would be a bonus later in the year!
We had a wonderful exerience! The Hotel is amazingly beautiful, calm and very well located. The staff was very friendly and helpful, took care of many things for us. Miss Nepal already!
thick mattress, hot water bottle in the bed at night, big room (deluxe), quiet place, real temple look and feel
a bit expensive for Nepal
One of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. The architectural details in th public areas and in our room were exquisite. The staff were warm, welcoming and helpful, even when we had to cancel a night. Location is right in Thamel, but on a side street that is a bit quieter than the chaotic thoroughfare.
Wifi was weak in our room, though good in the public areas.
Histrical, beautiful architecture and friendly, supportive staff.
In Winter season, lack of electricity is a bit of suvival experience...If you have a hot water pot service, that is highly appreciated.
Looks like a Tourist point, very beautiful hotel (same as pictures), very cosy room with nice view. Hot water bags and eletric blankets
Expensive breaksfest ( better take in another place), they forgot to pick us up in the airport (after we have free shuttle to Drop off in airport). One day without hot shower ( because of rainy day - no sunlight to heat water). They charge 4% for Credit card payment.
The breakfast was too pricey and too classic.
The water bottles in the bed, very thoughtful and an electric blanket. Wifi was the best in town. Staff was excellent and very friendly and chatty without being annoying
The room was cold and unfortunately the heater wasn't working. But I couldn't be bothered to ask as the bed was nice and warm
The architecture is beautiful, the staff extremely friendly and helpful, and the rooms comfortably big. Showers were hot.
On the courtyard side there is not a lot of light; wifi is weak; there is no generator so power is subject to scheduled load shedding; rooms can be chilly; laundry was exorbitantly expensive ($32 USD for what amounted to less than one load at home). Hotel entrance is down an alley and next to a construction site, which is fine during the day but one of the few places in Thamel where you feel exposed at night.
Building was beautiful, restaurant good
The unexpected of the hotel in such a place, the niceness of the building maintaining all character without being dingy or run down. The helpful staff. The place itself.
Internet too slow and wifi a bit tricky to get hold of.
Renovated, historic building with friendly staff and good restaurant and beautiful gardens
Can't think of anything!
Fantastic building that seems like it's a temple 100s of years old yet it was built in the 1990s! Very ecologically-focussed. For example, only bulk water is provided. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Breakfast was poor value but there are some excellent options within walking distance.
The food was great, as was the morning yoga session and the hotel's environmental policy.
The rooms are dark but very atmospheric.
I loved the decor and the design of the teple house. it gives the feeling of steping out of the busy city into a different peaceful diamention
The lovely gardens, old traditional architecture, morning yoga class and location to thamel
Our room was only a standard twin but was still very expensive for what it was. Quite dark, small, shabby, with very old and dated bathroom with cracks. Not worth the 180$ for 2 nights!
Like the layout of the rooms and the ambeince of this hotel. Woodwork and surrounds are beautiful.
Rooms are very dark & dreary and because of the power curfews 7 to 8 hours each day and during summer its really hot. Even tho they give you power cuts schedule its either out of date or not reliable. The credit card charges are exhorbitant & not told to you till you arrive. To save you must pay in cash. No breakfast incl.
Courtyard was beautifyl and a great asset in increasingly dense, crowded and unpleasant Thamel. Architectural detail of outside and interior details of deluxe room was the big draw for us from previous v on another trip. Proximity to Thamel businesses good as a feature on a map; however, very poor in reality; primary access is from a dark, filthy and dubious lane from 2 directions. Some staff were good and accomodating; however, others at front desk were,at times indifferent.
Access from filthy lane, populated by dubious guys frequented by guys from the local girly bar at night ; not recommended for single women for this reason alone. Construction and jackhammering inside hotel from early morning to evening; could not sleep late or have peace during day. NO notice of this renovation at website or at booking. Frequent Power outages with many hassles of on/off fan. No AC, which in hot summer monsoon weather is bad, given the high price premium we paid for this hotel; they should lower prices or install AC. (We have stayed in many Thamel hotels one third the cost of this hotel that had AC) Smell of sewer gas from ventilation riser inside our deluxe room; we complained repeatedly; but actually there was nothing they could do, as it was a riser w/ opening to the room. Staff were unsympathetic to this complaint, and seemed to doubt this very real issue. One complaint that really is endemic to Nepal increasingly over the years, tended to be felt at kantipur...waiting expectedly for tips for the simplest of requests. Not good for any hotel; and, seemed too obviuos here. Have been coming to Nepal for decades and know value for money. Unfortunately, Kantipur has great potential for be a destination Hotel; but, I feel it is overpriced by a considerable amount, given quality of service, conditions and outside access environment.
