Building was beautiful, restaurant good
The unexpected of the hotel in such a place, the niceness of the building maintaining all character without being dingy or run down. The helpful staff. The place itself.
Internet too slow and wifi a bit tricky to get hold of.
Renovated, historic building with friendly staff and good restaurant and beautiful gardens
Can't think of anything!
Fantastic building that seems like it's a temple 100s of years old yet it was built in the 1990s! Very ecologically-focussed. For example, only bulk water is provided. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Breakfast was poor value but there are some excellent options within walking distance.
The food was great, as was the morning yoga session and the hotel's environmental policy.
The rooms are dark but very atmospheric.
I loved the decor and the design of the teple house. it gives the feeling of steping out of the busy city into a different peaceful diamention
The lovely gardens, old traditional architecture, morning yoga class and location to thamel
Our room was only a standard twin but was still very expensive for what it was. Quite dark, small, shabby, with very old and dated bathroom with cracks. Not worth the 180$ for 2 nights!
Like the layout of the rooms and the ambeince of this hotel. Woodwork and surrounds are beautiful.
Rooms are very dark & dreary and because of the power curfews 7 to 8 hours each day and during summer its really hot. Even tho they give you power cuts schedule its either out of date or not reliable. The credit card charges are exhorbitant & not told to you till you arrive. To save you must pay in cash. No breakfast incl.
Courtyard was beautifyl and a great asset in increasingly dense, crowded and unpleasant Thamel. Architectural detail of outside and interior details of deluxe room was the big draw for us from previous v on another trip. Proximity to Thamel businesses good as a feature on a map; however, very poor in reality; primary access is from a dark, filthy and dubious lane from 2 directions. Some staff were good and accomodating; however, others at front desk were,at times indifferent.
Access from filthy lane, populated by dubious guys frequented by guys from the local girly bar at night ; not recommended for single women for this reason alone. Construction and jackhammering inside hotel from early morning to evening; could not sleep late or have peace during day. NO notice of this renovation at website or at booking. Frequent Power outages with many hassles of on/off fan. No AC, which in hot summer monsoon weather is bad, given the high price premium we paid for this hotel; they should lower prices or install AC. (We have stayed in many Thamel hotels one third the cost of this hotel that had AC) Smell of sewer gas from ventilation riser inside our deluxe room; we complained repeatedly; but actually there was nothing they could do, as it was a riser w/ opening to the room. Staff were unsympathetic to this complaint, and seemed to doubt this very real issue. One complaint that really is endemic to Nepal increasingly over the years, tended to be felt at kantipur...waiting expectedly for tips for the simplest of requests. Not good for any hotel; and, seemed too obviuos here. Have been coming to Nepal for decades and know value for money. Unfortunately, Kantipur has great potential for be a destination Hotel; but, I feel it is overpriced by a considerable amount, given quality of service, conditions and outside access environment.
Quiet hotel, beautiful building.
Location is great in the middle of Thamel, but the direct access is from a dark street.
Eco friendly, AMAZING food, very friendly & kind staff, free yoga & meditation
Location is very good, close to touristic areas. Staffs are very helpful. Room was clean. The bed was noise-free. Hot water was available 24 hours. Not much noise in hotel.
Room and shower were small. Fan was noisy. Windows are looking at other room. Breakfast was average. No facilities for kid.
Excellent staff. They all make you feel like home! Nothing like wake up and hear namasté from everyone with a smile on their faces :)
It's just a little difficult to find the place.
central location, beautiful gardens, lovely facilities, excellent breakfast. An oasis in the middle of hectic Kathmandu.
nice design staff friendly and professional eco friendly
hot water ran out too quick some staff a little nosey it was a bit too cut off from the rest of town too many mosquitos
This Hotel was so serene and Peaceful and the best location ever. The Breakfast was amazing and the staff was amazing. We loved the look and feel of the Hotel and how it was right off the main part of town. We wish we had more time to spend there.
No Air Conditioner and we were really really really hot, however, we are americans and love air conditioner. Also, the power at the Hotel has to go for around 2 hours a day (I think) this is because the country has a power shortage. This made us more hot because the fans were not even working.
Green hotel, no plastic Great food Try the buckwheat roti at breakfast Yoga
Staff pretty good Rooms ornate
Staff were a bit nosy and asked too many questions but were friendly Food could have at times, been better Problems with hot water at times
Kathmandu temple house is really a peaceful place to stay. Love their red brick walls and homemade wooden furnitures, such a historical treasure. With out indoor tv, instead they provide morning yoga and meditation class. I can kiss FIFA gdbye nd finish my reading here.
The electronic power is not so stable. power broke down twice times a day.
The hotel architecture is beautiful. Yoga and Meditation!
Very overpriced for what they offer (No a/c, no tv, minibar, etc)
Great staff and great place
Its location in Thamel made it easy to get around. The staffs was v helpful n friendly.
The only disadvantage was that its main door was situated behind a dark crowded lane that made us uncomfortable walking back at night. For the price paid there wasn't an air con, only a standing fan that really could not keep the room cool.
A very charming and quiet hotel, with a pleasantly rustic feel and gorgeous traditional architecture, both inside and out. Clean and spacious rooms. Friendly and helpful staff. Reliable and free Wifi everywhere in the hotel and the garden. Delicious and copious breakfast in a lovely garden. If you seek a romantic spot in Kathmandu, go for it.
The rooms can be dark but we saw it as part of the hotel charm. Same goes for the many loud crows in the garden during breakfast time. Other drawbacks are just expected in Kathmandu: daily power outages and hot water shortage. Just be patient and level headed. If you seek modern "surgical" comfort, look elsewhere (maybe not in Nepal even).
Ambiance, location (a few mins to Thamel & short walk to Durbar Sq)
A beautiful place to stay where you can really feel that you are in Kathmandu! Location excellent on edge of Thamel but only a short (and interesting!) walk to Durbar Square.
