Casuta Paterau Cheia, Prahova, hotel in Cheia

Enjoying a quiet location in Cheia, Casuta Paterau Cheia, Prahova is a wooden house with a garden, mountain views and cable TV. Free private parking is possible on site.

Host was helpful with sorting out late arrival, so that is a pretty big plus, but I'm affraid it stops short there. The internet was also decent, after you found the password on the back of the router.....

    Avoid this apartment.

Avoid this apartment. In reality it looks like an abandoned and heavily improvised accommodation, not operational during the winter season although available on Booking. Had to cancel it on a short notice but the owners were not eager to find the compromise and had to pay the full price. Lesson learned from my side. Never ever there.

Cheia is excellently placed for mountain trips in the beautiful Ciucaș massif. There are plenty of small shops where you can buy almost anything you might need. Water is pure mountain one, just like the air. Views are splendid.

Great for hiking in the Ciucas mountains.

Great for hiking in the Ciucas mountains. You can drive to Muntele Rosu and from there you have a lot of options to hike and they're doable even with kids. It's great if you're looking for peace, quiet and fresh mountain air. You can visit Muzeul Florilor de Mina and the Cheia Monastery. I recommend going in June to see the rhododendrons blossomed.

Cheia is a small village between the Ciucas and Grohotis mountains, somewhere on DN1a between Ploiesti (via Valenii de Munte) and Brasov (via Sacele). A lot of trails start from here to the top of the mountains, even a 3 km asphalt road route to Red Mountain. A 5 km forest road took you closer to Ciucas Peak, via Ciucas chalet and another forest road of about 10 km took you to Valea Stanii, quite close to Boncuta Pass, towards Buzau county or Tabla Butii with its WWI Heroes Cemetery. There is a trail running marathon and a bike competition that are organized here every year. Two museums that can be visited. And some guesthouses with restaurants that offer comfort for almost any taste. I dearly recommend this place!

Hotel Cheia was a hotel we picked because we needed an accommodation in that location. The rooms looked as represented in the photos. They were on the small side and had a balcony. The balcony is good if you’re a smoker, bad if you’re not but you’re neighbor is. You could not keep the window open while someone was smoking. Breakfast on the terrace was good and a very pleasant and fun experience.

As Cheia is quite a small holiday village, the location of Pensiunea Alex is very good. I appreciated the mattress and the fridge in the room. All you need for a short stay.
