What an incredible experience to visit such a place of immense historical and cultural value. I didn't know what to expect and was amazed at the wondrous sites and how spiritual it was. There's so much to see and I was pleasantly surprised that it's wasn't full of TikTok vloggers. Wear good walking shoes, bring lots of water and where possible avail of the heat reflecting umbrellas, provided free but should be returned afterwards. I learned so much and took away an experience I won't forget, which was down to a wonderful tour guide. We travel to experience other cultures and embrace what we can learn and this truly was a place of wonderment. Ayutthaya, like lots of places in SE Asia still hasn't fully recovered from Covid. The actual town isn't anything special. The Archaeological Park is astounding. The other fabulous area is the Riverside, which has numerous superb restaurants, for people who search them out. Far better prices and quality than Bangkok. Some specialities include enormous prawns as big as lobsters (750 g), soft shelled crabs (really unusual find), a wide range of fish, beautiful presentation. So much history! So many ruins of temples!
So much history! So many ruins of temples! It's really too much to see in just a few days. And there are so many off the beaten path that the tours don't go to, which are have no people at them. It's an amazing place, especially if you're Buddhist or have an appreciation for history. Recommend taking Grab bikes around (they're very inexpensive), bring lots of water, GO AT SUNRISE or SUNSET! Dawn and dusk are the best times to see the temple (also at night many are lit up beautifully and it's much cooler). The elephants for riding looked very sad, would *not* recommend. The house is beautiful, with a shared terrace overlooking the river, very impressive. The all-wood room is very beautiful and above all clean, just like everything is clean. The staff is extremely kind and helpful, they let us have a shower before leaving and they allowed us to stay on the terrace while we waited to catch the train.
