I'm an American volunteer providing non-lethal support for Ukraine during the current conflict. Like all of Ukraine, Kharkiv is under a US "Level 4 - do not travel" restriction, but I've had no issues.
There are air alarms, but if you are conscious of your environment and make good decisions, you will be fine. It's all about statistics and luck.
The people of Kharkiv are warm and welcoming. Trsnsportation in the city is working - metro, bus, Uklon, Uber, etc. The food is wonderful and the prices are low by western standards.
I particularly enjoy the rynoks (markets) throughout the city. You can find anything from car parts to soviet memoribelia at very reasonable prices.
There are many volunteer opportunities in the city and I can't wait to get back - I am at the end of my 3 month tourist visa and am applying for an extension.

I move through Kharkiv regularly in my capacity as a volunteer and aid donor to Ukraine. Kharkiv pre-war a beautiful city like most large Ukrainian cities. Kharkiv at the moment during the crisis is a different city totally, very different to Kyiv or Lyviv where for the most part life goes on and everything is open and functioning. The current Kharkiv has lost its soul slightly in that many have left and not returned, it is very quiet and deserted in many places and there is still extensive damage to the Northern suburbs and even in the city centre. There are still regular air raids and regular shelling and attempted attacks from Russia, but people are trying to get on with life. So if you wanted to explore a beautiful city at a time when it is less congested, probably a good time. Please don't let my comments deter you, as any tourist dollar is needed and people need to also see visitors as it gives them stamina and resolve knowing people have not forgotten. Kharkiv is a big city and spread out over a large area, it has two real contrasting sides, one which seems quite industrial and the other a mix of modern and old historic structures among parks and greenery. As for amenities, Kharkiv still has all you need operating at the moment and you can get very good deals on accommodation given the current climate.

Kharkiv is a city for Youth!
Kharkiv is a city for Youth! A lot of young girls, students, international students make it EU city like and even more. Very good fine dining as well as casual spots ) Cheaper then Odessa (a bit more expensive as Lviv) I did not expect to be so authentic in the downtown (but clean)

Shevchenko Garden Park which surrounded the Nemo Hotel-
was delightful. Loved the clean, manicured grass, the outdoor fitness
equipment , the wonderful stairs leading down to more fountains.
Sumskaya St is fascinating. Filled with all kinds of shopping. Leading
to the main square. Kharkov has a definite , young vibe with all
of the college students out between classes. Endless coffee shops,
and where else does coffee sell for less than one U.S. dollar?

ENJOY!
I've stayed at many apartments in Ukraine, this is the best 🙂 Everything was perfect and clean. Great kitchen with everything available to cook whatever you want to. I am English and I am used to a bath, but there are not usually baths in Ukraine apartments, so I appreciated the bath very much. I also greatly appreciated the high quality tea and bathroom/kitchen equipment. The rooms were good sizes and the bed was very comfortable. Perfect location close to the metro and beautiful parks. Look forward to staying again soon.
One of those very rare cases when pretty much everything you can see in the hotel and room descriptions is present and works as supposed. It does not mean everything is luxurious, it means you can rely on the description and book correspondingly. I have rated Staff, Cleanliness, Comfort, and Value as excellent and they are. Location is not excellent if excellency means downtown. The hotel is a bit off. On the other hand, downtown hotels are much more expensive, and "AN-2" is mid-range.
I did not stay there as no nd opened the door for me. I messaged and emailed and phoned the host but there was no answer. After standing outside, in the dark, for half an hour, I had to ask a cab driver to drive to another place. He drove me to z good, cheap hotel, where I stayed for my whole time in Kharkiv. I never got any reply from the hosts at Sumskaya 46, even in the following days. Either theyvdoer, or they are just terribly careless.
It's another classic hotel albeit with a catch -- the bathroom and toilet is shared between two rooms. The rooms are nice though, ascetic as I like them but still got everything. There's a balcony too, which is always great. Loved the staircase with the glass mosaics, patchy walls and metal railings. There's a bar/restaurant downstairs with a decent menu as well.
Great laundry service. I love the ambiance, staff, quiet atmosphere safety and cleanliness. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting or planning to stay in Kharkiv. I have stayed in many hotels around the world; the Park Kharkiv is exceptional.
Everything was great and amazing, friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms, great location (near from everywhere)
by the way , the food in hotel very delicious, breakfast tasty and you can order many things in dinner and lunch too
The location is the best. Entry and interior decor is very good. Many photo options. Reception was friendly. Cafe food was delicious. Especially the in house Yoghurt. Room size was good with nice interior.
Reception staff were very friendly. Breakfast was as nice as you’d expect from a hotel of this category and price. View from the top floor rooms was wonderful. Rooms were really comfy.
Location, cleanliness, good breakfast, staff, services, parking, quiet place.
Stayed the second time in this hotel. It is probably the best in Kharkiv in terms of price/quality ratio.
Very nice hotel 🏨. The staff were eager to help, and everyone worked as a team
The breakfast 🍳 was cooked fresh while we waited in the dining 🍽 room. The food was delicious 😋
All the hostels suck . Do not come to them to be told what to do and pay for it. Do not promote these places. Use Air B and B , hotel chains or stay with friends in apartments.
Location is central, yet hotel is located in a quiet area further away from the main street. I liked cleanliness and comfort of my room and very professional staff.
It is a spa hotel , good ambience and quality service and breakfast. Pool outside and inside and SPA facilities. Breakfast is really good.Good for couple.
