The location is good, close to Union Square. The wine and cheese is lovely in the afternoon.
The hotel is dated, old- fashioned, smelled musty. There was a gap in the windows so you could hear traffic and people shouting during the night.
- location - cleanliness
Complimentary happy hour every afternoon
Wifi slow, especially in our room
Location was great, only a few minutes walk from Union Sq and Market Street We were given a free upgrade to a bigger room on arrival so the room we stayed in was sizable Hotel is an old building so has plenty of character
Wifi did not work in our room Breakfast was included with our booking but was not very good. we were told breakfast was continental, all this consisted of was coffee, pastries and some fruit so we still had to pay for breakfast/brunch elsewhere.
Cheese and wine in the afternoon
No bar. Breakfast was too sweet....no fruit.
Room, service, decent breakfast, happy hour, location
Location also has its downsides - lots of noise (coming from in front of hostel next door? Sounded like a bunch of drunk teenagers or college students) until 2 a.m.
The staff where very friendly and went out of their way to help....breakfast was a nice touch and the nighty wine and cheese was very friendly....a great hotel..
could be noisy at times from outside bars but not the fault of the hotel...
good location for everything we wanted to do. worth the stay
bit of noise during the night but nothing of concern
Complimentary cheese and wine each evening and complimentary muffins and coffee for breakfast. Lovely spacious rooms.
room was far too hot with no air conditioning. Had to use portable fans
The afternoon wine and cheese
The noise from the street. The breakfast.
I enjoyed the wine & cheese in the evening and the lobby decor.
Hotel was mostly quiet, but the windows could use updating a lot of street noise late at night made sleeping a full night difficult.
My bed and hotel really rocked but no visible damage. That was the biggest I have felt and this old historic hotel held tight. Also - gentleman and woman at front desk very helpful. Busy lobby for breakfast. The historic charm reminded me of my inn in Maine.
Quiet. Polite staff. Good room cleaning daily.
Neighborhood a bit seedy at night.
Nothing about this hotel appealed
The smell !! it was like being back in time, very antiquated and musty smell, for the cost it very very expensive for the lack of facilities, unable to get wifi
Room and public areas very clean. Breakfast was adequate given limited kitchen facilities. From the hotel, only a short walk to Union Square.
Although the hotel was well presented, the immediate area was rather run down. Service was impersonal.
Good location and room size
No air-con. Room was very hot and couldn't keep the windows open as they were on a fire escape and the room was no longer safe.
The location was very handy to Union Square and the area was good. It suited us. The happy hour in the afternoon was great and we enjoyed the rest and a nice glass of wine after seeing the sights of SF.
Location , wine and cheese in the afternoon
No kettle to make tea or coffee
Good starting point for getting about in the city. Helpful and friendly staff. Complimentary cheese and wine in the late afternoon was a nice idea.
Wi-Fi in room didn't work, but was ok in lobby. building work being carried out on same floor as our room was noisy, but we were out most of day, so hardly an issue. Room was a little dated.Breakfast was predictable.
Biggest earthquake in 20 years and the hotel didnt fall down. Cheers
GREAT LOCATION, NICE FEATURE TO HAVE SIMPLE BREAKFAST PROVIDED. COMFY AND CLEAN ROOM
A BIT TOO WARM IN THE ROOMS. NO TEMPERATURE CONTROL. HAD TO HAVE WINDOW OPEN TO COOL THE ROOM AND IT WAS NOISY FROM TRAFIC OUTSIDE
The size of the room was excellent and the bathroom was huge and very updated. Staff was very helpful. Great ambiance.
No air conditioning. the temperature was mild so none was needed but other times of the year it would be.
The location is pretty good. Less than 10 minutes walk to Union Square. It was very convenient for shopping and transportation. Also there is a small grocery store across this hotel. Many restaurants are near this hotel as well!
Since this hotel seems very old, we could hear every single noise from outside especially weekend night... People were screaming, talking etc until 3am or 4am... Next to this hotel is a hostel so there were many young people hanging out right front of the hostel and this hotel.
many bugs , dirty room and bathroom, no a/c ,one of the worse I have ever experienced anywhere ! Terrible , low class neighborhood , keep away !
