Located in the Marina district, so is easy walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf, but you don't pay the price of a typical FW hotel. I've stayed at the chain hotels at FW and the Marina Inn is just as nice. The room is large enough, clean, and comfortable, and they serve a simple breakfast. The neighborhood is fine, a decent mix of commercial and residential.
The hotel is on the corner of Lombard St, which is very busy during the day and evening, so there is a noise factor, but it's not too bad. If you're looking for a completely quiet, peaceful place, this isn't it. But if you're going to be out during the day and can put up with a bit of traffic noise at night, you'll be fine.
The staff was great, they got us a top floor unit with bay window, put in a little fridge for us, came and cleaned every day, found us some utensils and bowls , helped us plan our day and find our way around town (very helpful) and made sure we had a shuttle to get back to the airport. They were laid back and friendly. The location was awesome, not too busy but right on the bus line. The entry of the building was charming and the building was very old, great staircases. Cute room, loved the bay window and it had a little bit of a view of part of the city.
The hotel has not been kept up too well. The carpets need changing or a cleaning at the least, the bed was very old and saggy but strangely comfortable (maybe I was just exhausted from all the walking) and there was an smell of soap that permeated every room and hallway and is still in my clothes even after I brought them home. It wasn't offensive just a little too strong.
The "continental" breakfast was not more than orange juice/tea/coffee out of plastic cups and toast, jam, butter, hard boiled eggs, yoghurt and bananas from paper plates. Breakfast was disappointing for that price
The location was perfect. We were there for 2 nights and walked everywhere...saw Alcatraz, Lombard St, Ghirardelli Square and all through the Fisherman's Wharf area!
It would be hard to complain but I suppose we would say the continental breakfast area was very small and crowded.
price and location
bathroom sink in the bed room
The receptionists were extremely friendly and helpful. They knew how to guide us to the main tourist areas and recommend the things to see and to do. The wifi strength was excellent.
A little mouse roaming the hallway. It is uncommon to have air conditioning in San Fran, however our 'shoe-box size' room was located above the laundry room of the hotel meaning we had a constant temperature of 80F/25C. We were given a fan but even with the window open there was no air coming in. The room had view on an internal patio.
The location was pretty good, and near enough to the fishermans wharf, and walkable around 1.5 km. and around 2km to pier 33 for the trip to Alcatraz. A view of the Golden Gate bridge was a few blocks behind and a few blocks the other way to Lombard street, uphill!! the location of the place was the most positive point of the place. The rooms were clean, although a little musty and in need of a update. Good for a base, and just to sleep this is pretty okay, and close enough to walk to some attractions. All the staff were helpful and friendly too.
Bathroom extremely small, although this was minor, no air conditioning there was a fan, couldn't leave windows open as the traffic noise was too loud, the breakfast was extremely basic. although all these points were not major as our trip was only a few days and we only needed a place to sleep.
Location was greas, safe.
Unseasonably hot in SF. No A/C or fan, tiny room meant we had to have the window open. So did everyone else that partiedand argued all night long...
There is no on-site parking, but luckily there was plenty of residential parking nearby that we took advantage of. There are a couple fun bars only 4 blocks away, and during the day, it is a cute shopping area! We chose to walk around the whole city, only to be very excited to return home, where this hotel was actually quiet and comfortable. I loved the linen (soft soft pillows!) and the oddly useful heat lamp in the bathroom.
Door slams of other nearby rooms are extremely loud. It was the only noise we heard but it was almost as if someone had slammed our door.
The Marina inn must've been a lovely retreat in it's day. Conveniently located and relatively quiet from street noise it definitely is in need of structural repair and renovation.
Rooms had various deteriorations: baseboards, wash basins, carpets.
Nice guy on The reception. Close to Everything By walking. Bus right at The corner.
Too noisy rooms Day light all The time entering The room (we woke up every 5:30-6:00 am) Only 3 Tables to have breakfast
In a safe area. People are friendly. Quaint rooms with beautiful wallpaper and deco. Bus stop is about a block away. It's fuss free really. From the rooms to breakfast which consists of toasts, hard boiled eggs, yogurt and fruit with hot coffee / tea / orange juice. Room is cleaned daily.
Passing vehicles can get pretty loud if you are in a room with windows facing the road. I was there in the summer and the room was warm and needed air. Best way is to open the windows. Although you have to pick car noise or awesome crisp air. I picked air. There is a fan provided in the room which i used to further ventilate the rooms.
location!!! very charming, didn't mind that room didn't have AC since we were in our room only to sleep.
The staff was super, very friendly and responsive. The room was clean.
There is no parking for the hotel, only street parking (which is scarce in that neighborhood). No air conditioning and no screen on the window. The building is old and looks like it.
Location is good: 15 minutes walk from Fisherman's Wharf.
Bathroom: tube curtain is really strange - you have to bend to get in. Red bulb in the bathroom (?). Contention for the seating at breakfast.
Location was very convenient, walking distance to many restaurants and fisherman's wharf.
Towels provided were old and almost rag like. The room was facing Lombard street which made it a noisy location. There was no air conditioning. The Wi-Fi barely worked.
Extremely helpful and friendly staff.
-Nice distance from the Wharf/Pier -Close to amenities (Lombard, Union, Market st stores) -Comfortable bed
-A little outdated (no coffee pot, etc)
It is well located and it is not too expensive for SF
It is a bit noisy. I could not sleep because of the traffic
Staff was excellent, and the continental breakfast was right on the spot.
No air conditioning, and some maintenance should be done in the room we stayed in.
For the money we spent ($200) I would expect I much cleaner environment. The beds were terrible. The room was tiny. We didn't even use the shower it was so gross. The walls are quite thin and every time a door closed on our floor and the one above it would slam shut. The walls were missing paintings (you could tell because the wall surrounding was faded) and there were two lamps you could not plug in because the cord was too short for an outlet we could not find. Kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk- kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk- kkkkk
Easy walking distance to Chestnut St restaurant strip and Union Street shopping and eady bus access to downtown and Fishermans Wharf. Good value.
The location was great. Rooms are quite small but totally sufficient even for longer stays (~7 nights). Breakfast is okay. Rooms are clean.
Breakfast could be better. A little noisy due to Lombard St. right next to the hotel.
Excellent staff(Yolanda at the desk) Good continential breakfast Cleanilness was very good. Very good location to Fisherman's Wharf and transit.
Very noisy(next to a busy street) Poor showers. Cramped breakfast room.
Good location, close to bus routes, lovely walk to Fisherman's Wharf, plenty of places to eat in walking distance. Staff friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast provided. Room quite big, bed comfortable.
No tea or coffee making facilities in hotel.
