The location was nice. The staff was very friendly. The roof lookout was nice to view the city.
The rooms were small. We stayed 2 nights and both mornings when we got up to shower there were cockroaches in the bathroom that went back behind the vanity. Gross !!!
Location, convenience of 24hr restaurant, staff was great, rooftop views. Always lots of people and activity, which was fun.
The inconvenience of the old elevator and the noise factor were to be expected for an old city hotel. All OK with me, as a heavy sleeper who can use earplugs if necessary. If bugged by elevator, book room on lower floors so you can walk up and down the stairs if in a hurry.
room too small for comfort
Roof top patio Historic building Helpful Staff
Came down from LA for a tournament. I remember the St. James when it was a tore up seedy hotel. They kept all the old charm. Makes you feel like you are staying in Manhattan. 24 hour room service from the best diner in San Diego, Brian's 24!!
I just like the hotel location only.
They charge too much for parking Uncomfortable old beds. They should change the old elevators Dirty carpet and annoying air conditioners
Love the character of the building. Staff was exceptionally helpful, accomodating and friendly. Building is 100+ yrs old and seems like it hasn't been altered very much.Location was convenient and loved the rooftop patio. Room was clean and just large enough for 2 people and 4 suitcases. Liked the front-facing window to see the street below. Good 24hr. restaurant next door.
Although I wasn't bothered by these things because I appreciate the vintage aspect, but, might be an issue for "fussier" guests: Elevator is an exercise in patience-tiny, slow and hard to keep door open. Neighborhood is noisy, so not for light sleepers. Earplugs and a few cocktails work for me just fine.
Location to everything was great.
Parking was a little difficult.
Staff are always great. Location is ideal and the price is awesome for the area. We like the fact that it's a historic building.
We know this going in but rooms are small and the beds are a bit uncomfortable.
The staff was very friendly and always made sure to say good bye and hello when going and coming. The elevator was a major plus even if it was a bit small.
The rooms are small but what do you expect from a hotel that was built back in the 1900s. Can get a bit loud, but just turn the a/c on and it's not that bad.
Generally a good experience - I can recommend it and would come back. A nice special is the rooftop access.
- very noisy - breakfast only in the nearby restaurant
We were a family of 13 traveling together. The staff at The hotel were all extremely pleasant & helpful. Couldn't have asked for better. Having the restaurant next door a big plus, staff also great. Would stay again, highly recommend.
Not being able to stay longer
Fair Price, very friendly staff, good to hang out on Roof!
Cost of parking. SuggeSion $10 per night

Everything was so nice. We were upgraded to the Presidential Suite for no reason and it was the nicest place I've ever stayed. I'll definitely come back.
The jacuzzi bath didn't work and didn't have a plug. Also only one remote worked.
24 hours restaurant is awesome. Nice location, fair price.
Elevator is cool but troublesome.
Excelent location, just in the downtown. Walking distance from the main interest places.
Extremely rude staff on the evening we checked in - they gave a suite on the 10th floor to the guys and a small room on the first floor to us, even if we payed the same and there was only one reservation, done by me! When complaining, they started to harass us, the girls, keeping asking us to show us a key card every time that we came back to the hotel (e.g. from the restaurant). Room: A lot of noise and some times food smell coming from the air conditioning, which could not be turned off completely. Ants in the bathroom. Wi-fi was not working good at all. If I had some emergency from work and I would have needed to connect to my office remotely through this wi-fi, it would have not been possible.
The Front Desk manager was very helpful. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the building. I enjoyed riding in the antique elevator although it was a "tight fit" for two and a baggage cart. It is a beautiful building.
Pipes were noisy in the early morning.
The one incharge of the logistics from and to the the airport was very courteous.Felt like tipping him and we did.
A lady staff at the reception was rigid than flexible when we came for the second part of the Stay from Nov 3rd 2014 till Nov 6th. When requested for a change in the room. Felt like crying after having paid hefty sum for stay but definitely regretted the impersonal attitude of the staff there
Excellent Hotel...friendly staff, great location,
I like the separate rooms
The old elevator and the 24/7 restaurant. Liked the overall atmosphere.
No gym or pool
It was close and in walking distance to everything we needed.
Beautiful lobby, room ok, good location. Staff, some are really great.
Very noisy room because of airco. In high season you might have streetnoise, but you wont notice because of 'noicecancelling aircon'. Charming old elevator, or is that just an excuse?? A towel left behind on the floor in the hallway stayed there for 2 full days. Staff, some are very arrogant and unhelpfull.
