Bed was uncomfortable and their restaurant that was attached to the hotel was being renovated.
Location was great
The security guard was unacceptable. We watched him harass couples trying to re-enter the hotel with one key, walk around like it was a boot camp and had a horrible attitude. He would be the only reason I would not return. I believe the front desk said his name was Enrique. I will make sure he is not working the next time I plan on staying.
I loved the old charm of this hotel! The staff (minus the security guard) was amazing!! The beds were comfortable and the roof top view amaze balls!
Elevators were scary but an experience
The roof access and rooftop view was breathtaking
I despise companies that by up these old downtown hotels, do as few upgrades as possible and then shoehorn guests into pint-sized quarters at a premium price. Look elsewhere for comfort.
Great location with lots of restaurants.
Elevators are kind of cool but inadequate for number of users. Neighborhood is overrun with vagrant panhandlers.
Convenient location. Nice views from rooftop deck.
It is an older hotel so some of the conveniences are a little dated, but worked just fine.
Great atmosphere, excellent staff- can't say enough, dated but very comfortable room. It was one of the less expensive but value was as great or greater than fancier hotels.
Location and the extreme friendliness of everyone
NO natural light, Very confining. Way to small.
Comfortable bed I shared with my sister.
Awesome location for going out with friends. Good value for gaslamp.
The location and the roof top was excellent. The bed was very comfortable. Some of the staff was more friendly than others.
I don't like being hit with $20 parking fee upon checking in. You should add it to room rates so customers see that cost when booking.
It was handy to the Gaslamp area. Also view from top was good.
Too noisy - 27 air-conditioning units right under the windows, the rooms providing such discomfort shouldn´t be occupied at all or should be charged for much less
hotel is not nice and rooms are very small, elevator is terrible
The staff is wonderful !
The size of the rooms were a little small but we were not in our room much.
Perfect location for downtown and with the free shuttle to and from the airport made getting here so easy! Also the rooftop view is amazing!!!
No bad comments
Everything about it. Good location, service & comfort. Plus the 24/7 bar for drinks & breakfast
the elevator doors were a little hard to open specially if you have bags
The staff was Sooo rude. I came down from my hotel room to eat at the 24 hour resturant and a man at the front desk started yelling at me like I was a child. I did not get his name but that was so rude. And I also had trouble checking in. I had booked 2 rooms and when I was telling the lady at the front desk she just did not want to help me and told no you only booked one. I even showed her my booking information on my email. She was not helpful at all. So I asked to speak to someone else and he helped me and also found my other room. Overall I was no happy with my stay. I thought my 2 rooms were going to be close together since we were celebrating my birthday & my girlfriends birthday, but they were really far apart. And the staff was just so rude.
I liked that there was a 24 hour resturant located inside the hotel and the rooms were very nice.
Checked in and went to dinner. Came back to room to discover toilet didn't work. Had to use toilet in restaurant on first floor! Embarrassed to go down into restaurant in my pj'so but that was necessary as we couldn't get dressed every time we needed the toilet. Called for repair but no one came by the time we checked out at noon On Saturday. Bad news!
The elevator is old , hard , and smelly. The roof stairs small .
The employees are friendly and helpful . Also the location is perfect
The bed was moderately comfortable. The a/c was very noisy.
The location, valet parking and how well they maintained nice historic touches. LOVED the old elevators.
Loved the rooftop view. Location for Mardigra was great.
clean and comfortable bed.
Formerly the St. James, this hotel has vintage touches everywhere you look, including the still-operating elevators which, at one time in the early 1900's, are claimed to have been the fastest in the world. Small, cozy room, comfy bed, ceiling fan, and access to the roof of the building, where you can see huge expanses of the city and beyond. Very close to San Diego's MTS trolley Orange and Blue lines, not far from the Amtrak Santa Fe station, and Balboa Park is less than 2 miles to the north.
