Excellent Hotel...friendly staff, great location,
I like the separate rooms
The old elevator and the 24/7 restaurant. Liked the overall atmosphere.
No gym or pool
It was close and in walking distance to everything we needed.
Beautiful lobby, room ok, good location. Staff, some are really great.
Very noisy room because of airco. In high season you might have streetnoise, but you wont notice because of 'noicecancelling aircon'. Charming old elevator, or is that just an excuse?? A towel left behind on the floor in the hallway stayed there for 2 full days. Staff, some are very arrogant and unhelpfull.
Cleanliness Comfortable Staff were polite Inside the building was classic and beautiful
The building outside needs renovation. Te elevator was classic but not convenient at all special when you carry luggage.
Close to local shops, restaurants and attractions
Room has a odd layout.
I like that the staff was so helpful
The hotel was in the perfect location and has a historic feel to it. The elevators were a 1912 feel with the gate and had you feeling like you were on the titanic. The rooms were cute..very small with the sink in bedroom..but had some charm to it.
The staff was horrible..I've never experienced that poor of service before. First when I checked in the front desk young man looked like he was high and couldn't even look me in the eye. He gave a vibe that he did not want to be there and I didnt feel welcome..then these elevators..yes they're really cool because its historic and all but with a heavy door and gate that you need to hold open and pray you don't slam your finger on it is tough. Especially when trying to fit 2 people and a cart inside its near impossible..and that's not where the elevator issue ends. When checking out they state for a faster way you can check out on the TV..10 min later and after check out time it states that there is an error...so I have to run downstairs to check out before they charge me again...well there are only 2 elevators and 1 was out of order. Worst time for that to happen when there are many people checking out...the front desk helped with the issue but trying to get back down with our cart and a broken elevator was very frustrating. Doesn't end there...as were waiting for valet parking...and waiting and waiting... With no one bothering to ask us for our ticket.. There was no one around and finally after 20 min of waiting here comes the valet guy after I complained of waiting so long with absolutely no help. Point being...I will not be staying here again and will not recommend this hotel to anyone I know. Hopefully I can spare you from the trouble as well..
Location was on point, right in the city. Amazing amenities, the rooms were a pretty good size. Really liked it. Loved the vintage look, with the old classic elevators snd such.
The elevator was cool, but small, also, I didn't know there was more than one. That makes it better.
LOVE THE LOCATION, WITH TONS OF BARS AND RESTAURANTS EVERYWHERE YOU LOOKED...GOOD LITTLE SHOPPING SPOTS AND SHORT DRIVE OVER BRIDGE TO CORRONADO ISLAND...nice rooftop viewing and patio
Hotel was Old, but Charming, with the old elevator, and hotel dates back to 1912 or thereabouts, but that was good too.
The 1913 building is lovely. We enjoyed the beautiful lobby décor with the ambiance of yesteryear, the old elevators and architecture of the building. We liked the Gaslamp location, valet parking, and the rooftop access, which has a great view of the city. We would stay there again.
Looking out of the window of room 224 you have a beautiful view of the building across the way, which seems 10 feet away. The young adults (maybe 8 of them) in the apartment in that building were having so much fun laughing, listening to music, drinking and smoking until 3:00 a.m. We especially enjoyed it when they took the party out on the fire escape. Before leaving for dinner, I looked out the window and wondered why the big blue ice chest was on the fire escape. I found out later that night...They needed somewhere to sit. We remember what it was like being 20 something so we laughed it off, but if you are on a business trip and need to sleep do not get room 224.
Great location and price
Old elavator. Would not work for those w fiscal challenges
Wifi is terribly slow Elevators need to get used to
The view from the too
Roof terrace, bring your own beer Perfect Location Great room Price Friendly and helpful staff
Location in center of city close to Balboa Theater. The hotel was a good remodel of an old building. Great ambiance. The people in charge were friendly and helpful. Loved the rooftop area to view all of San Diego.
Air conditioners were very noisy and somewhat ineffective. I would have liked a small fridge and microwave.
Incompetent staff, we were unable to check in even after the required 3 pm check in. Woman behind the desk never thought to check to see if any other rooms were available instead of the two that were specifically set aside for us until I asked! Gym was a complete joke, rundown and old with only two machines. Rooms very cramped and dated flooring and bathrooms (didn't walk around barefoot) and dingy tile floors in bathroom. A/C units were in the windows so you could here all the street noise (ambulances, people, cars, etc) all night making sleep difficult. They even give you one (even though it was my husband and I in the room) pairs of earplugs as a suggestion to get sleep (uhhh ok?). We were a party of four with one car and they charged us both for the parking at check out and the manger was unresponsive and as incompetent as his staff when we asked for assistance. The ONLY highlight in staff was the shuttle driver that took us to the airport. Super friendly and hard working kid. This hotel could benifit from hiring less empathetic staff and upgrade the rooms to improve on noise and cleanliness.
I liked the location and the distance from the airport. The food at Brian's which is a 24 hour spot connected to the hotel.
The 20min shuttle to the hotel was a hour late picking us up. I did not like discovering after check in that the hotel is historic. The elevator is old fashion and self operated. I requested a double bedroom and what I got was two rooms with only enough room for one bed. The room had roaches. The windows lead out to a enclosed brick wall. Whenever people showered in the room above us our pipes would loudly rattle. The sheets had spots on them. The room did not feel clean.
I liked the way the staff from the driver to the GM all worked very hard to make my trip a great one. The location in the gaslamp was great
I really did not like the small rooms..but the GM took care of everything and I left a very happy man
Location near shops bars food Staff very friendly cheerful and approachable Beautiful interior and rooftop views
Where it was location was nice
The hotel was old and the parking wasn't very good. The room was very small and had a noisy air conditioner.
Location Rooftop terrace 24 hour restaurant
An older hotel. Small rooms. Noisy A/C
Location Free pick up and drop off to airport Terrace with fantastic view
Room felt a bit claustrophobic Air con worked properly but very noisy
Location near Petco Park Near restaurants Easy to find Old building but full of character
