Sweeping along the coast against a mountain backdrop, San Diego has easy living down to a fine art. Its wonderful beaches and mild climate make it a favorite spring break destination, and with over 40 city breweries, there are plenty of ice cold beers to set the mood.
The city’s most recognizable landmark is the Hotel del Coronado, a wooden Victorian beach resort, now a National Historic Landmark. As original Spanish mission and first in California, it's has been relocated to the Mission Valley area, and Old Town San Diego still has many Colonial buildings and quirky shops. Also great for shopping are Horton Plaza and the boutiques in the beachfront neighborhoods.
The city’s most famous attraction is its zoo in Balboa Park, a few blocks from San Diego International Airport. One of the world’s largest zoos, it is well worth a visit, as is the fantastic SeaWorld, home to several killer whales. To see wildlife in its natural habitat head to La Jolla beach where harbor seals rest, or watch whales in season from Point Loma Lighthouse.
Just over the border from Mexico’s Tijuana, San Diego has a distinctly Latin American vibe and a variety of accommodations encompassing apartments, motels, B&Bs and hotels. See Booking.com for the best deals.
“Excellent location. Close to almost all the tourist place. Free parking. Hotel is clean.”
“the character of the building the high standard of finish in the room .it was Xmas holiday season and the hotel was very busy however the staff were very attentive and helpful. All in all a wonderful experience”
“Friendly staff, on location resturaunt”
“We lIled everything about this hotel. Freshly cooked breakfast included.Staff very friendly. Just walk out of the door & everything in walking distance. We are Catholic & a beautiful church was just a 2 minute walk, where Mass was said every morning at 07.30. The room was very quite, although the planes were coming into land & were quite close we could not here them with the window closed. It was nice to watch them. The air conditioning unit was good, we had no problems with it at all. We will definately come back again.”
“Comfortable and close to everything in Pacific Beach.”
“Very modern recently remodeled building, everything is kept immaculate and is too of the line. The staff is super friendly and will be coming back next time I'm in town.”
“Good location and fabulous facility”
“The hotel is well located if you are interested in visiting the beach, the zoo and Torey Pines to hike. Easy walk to restaurants and fantastic if your family enjoys walking, running or cycling. They offer on site parking and serve chilled water and apples all day long. The staff is friendly and helpful.”
“Amazing hotel with very well appointed, bright, modern rooms with great views. Will definately stay only there whenever in dowtown San Diego.”
“The Suite, Property, pool area, were all very Nice.”
“I liked the location of the hotel and the hotel it's self ! The staff was absolutely amazing, the room was awesome, room service was delicious. I highly recommend anyone to stay here while visiting San Diego!”
“All was good, wish I could Stay longer”
“Easy beach access, comfortable beds, kid friendly, helpful staff.”
“This hotel is head and shoulders above the rest! My wife and I travel the country and do some traveling abroad, and Pacific Terrace ranks at the very top! PERFECT location and world class customer service is the reason we will return and spread the news about this gem of hotel and staff!”
“Not often that you cannot find a single fault with an hotel. This one had none. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, everything about our stay was perfect. On arrival at the airport you are met by the hotel’s free airport shuttle, and same method on departure. A nice touch! Our room (12th floor) overlooked the entire bay and we woke up every morning to superb panoramic views across the harbour. Would recommend asking for a room as high up as is available, in either Tower II or Tower III– you will not be disappointed. There is some aircraft noise but it did not bother us. Room we had was a family one that suited our requirements exactly. Two large double beds, a walk-in massive shower area, all the usual room amenities refreshed daily and to top it all, a sit-out balcony with stunning views. No fridge in room, but ice machine on each floor, so no issue here. The hotel has a nice secluded pool with plenty of surrounding loungers. Service throughout the hotel was first class, in particular reception and maid service. The hotel offers free security boxes at reception – well worthwhile. The little shop at the hotel entrance stocks the usual necessities and some reasonable souvenir things…and bottles of very reasonably priced chilled wine – ideal for winding down on the balcony taking in the vista. Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough”
“Location on hotel circle gave good access to San Diego at a competitive price. Free car parking was more than adequate (we had had to pay $25/night for parking at city centre hotel on previous evening) Restaurant provided more than adequate choice at reasonable prices.”
“Outside of the Gas Lamp area, I like staying at hotels in the Hotel Circle area. The price is economical and the hotels in this area are all within a mile of items of interest (Sea World, trolley, mall, restaurants). I've also stayed at other thrifty hotels further out in San Diego (Kearney Mesa) and they were miles from anything of interest.”
“Everything was perfect as a 1st time guest of this hotel. The location is perfect as I was right on the beach and had access to everything imaginable in that area, from restaurants to tge beach and pier itself. I will definitely stay here every time I'm in San Diego! !”
“The hotel is on Hotel Circle which makes it very easy to get to just about every part of San Diego within a few minutes drive. Also, the staff was as kind as could be.”
“It was on Hotel Circle making it close to everything you want in San Diego.”
