Huntley Santa Monica Beach, hotel in Los Angeles

Located less than 5 minutes walk to 3rd Street Promenade and the Santa Monica State Beach path, this Santa Monica modern beach-side hotel features a restaurant, bar, and lounge.

The location is nice. However, there’s a bad homeless population and the streets are dimly lit and it is secluded. On Saturday night I came back to the hotel surrounded by cop cars and 5 officers in the lobby talking with either homeless people or guests. I couldn’t tell what was happening but it didn’t feel safe. The decor and setup of the rooms were fine.

FAQs about hotels in Los Angeles

City of Angels

Exploring Los Angeles, the place where movies are made, you feel like you’re in a dream. Santa Monica Pier is the end point of the fabled Route 66, while just south is bohemian Venice Beach, lined by tall, swaying palms. Go slightly inland from the boardwalk to catch a glimpse of the canals that earned the area its name.

Head north to the golden beach and stunning scenery of Malibu and see why movie stars over the decades have settled here. Also popular with the rich and famous are Bel Air and Beverly Hills, home to exclusive Rodeo Drive.

And the reason for all this glitz and glamour? Hollywood, of course! Sitting high on a hill, the iconic sign is visible for miles around, while below the gold stars on Hollywood Boulevard immortalize celebrities of past and present.  Be there on premiere night to see them grace the red carpet of Grauman’s Chinese Theater.

Over the hill is Universal Studios, with behind-the-scenes tours as well as rides. Next door are the Warner Brothers Studios, and Paramount Studios are closer to Downtown LA.

Whether you decide to live like a star in a luxury LA hotel or choose a cheap motel through Booking.com, it’s worth renting a car to get around this sprawling city and out to Los Angeles Airport (LAX).

The freeway congestion has gotten much worse since we left in 94. It was so sad about the fires going on. Getting tickets for events is a hassle on computers. Glad the smog is better. Disneyland was packed fire to construction and rides were closed. Burbank hotel is awesome and eateries along San Fernando rd were great.

    Great place to visit.

Great place to visit. It was great hiring a car, as it allowed us to cover a lot more ground, from visiting the Hollywood sign in the hills, to visiting Venice beach and Santa Monica beach also. The sightseeing bus tour was good, and if you get a chance check out Waymo, the driverless Uber type car. There is also the Peterson Museum if you are into cars, and great shopping in the Beverly Centre, or Melrose Avenue if you enjoy looking for a bargin.

We stayed in Santa Monica but it has changed a lot since I was last there in 1998. It was not vibrant, it lacked tourists and there a few empty shops along 3rd Street. It seemed West Hollywood had more excitement and was closer to a lot of things we ended up doing.
