FAQs about hotels in Los Angeles

City of Angels

Exploring Los Angeles, the place where movies are made, you feel like you’re in a dream. Santa Monica Pier is the end point of the fabled Route 66, while just south is bohemian Venice Beach, lined by tall, swaying palms. Go slightly inland from the boardwalk to catch a glimpse of the canals that earned the area its name.

Head north to the golden beach and stunning scenery of Malibu and see why movie stars over the decades have settled here. Also popular with the rich and famous are Bel Air and Beverly Hills, home to exclusive Rodeo Drive.

And the reason for all this glitz and glamour? Hollywood, of course! Sitting high on a hill, the iconic sign is visible for miles around, while below the gold stars on Hollywood Boulevard immortalize celebrities of past and present.  Be there on premiere night to see them grace the red carpet of Grauman’s Chinese Theater.

Over the hill is Universal Studios, with behind-the-scenes tours as well as rides. Next door are the Warner Brothers Studios, and Paramount Studios are closer to Downtown LA.

Whether you decide to live like a star in a luxury LA hotel or choose a cheap motel through Booking.com, it’s worth renting a car to get around this sprawling city and out to Los Angeles Airport (LAX).

What I like the most is my grandchildren live there.

What I like the most is my grandchildren live there. Driving and parking are crazy, as everyone knows. I once got a parking ticket for no discernible reason and they hounded me for a while. Touristy stuff is generally costly. The light rail system isn't bad and has improved a lot. Santa Monica Pier is a must-see. Beach towns within 1-2 hours are lovely (like Santa Barbara and Dana Point). The entertainment industry is fascinating and unique. Lots of good restaurants from many cultures.

The traffic, smog, graffiti homeless with druggies on the street. You feel unsafe if you you were to walk down the street. When we were crossing the street with the light, this lady was walking 2 ft. in front of me and almost got hit by 2 cars turning on a corner. I yelled at her to watch out, but she probably only understands Spanish. She had the right of way, and she was headed straight. It was scary with the crazy driver's in Los Angeles. Our favorite was to go to Sanra Monica Pier. They had a beautiful beach, nice shops, and we enjoyed eating at Bubba Gumps. We enjoyed the scenic view off the pier, it was pretty. We went to Universal Studios and our favorite ride was interactive like being in the Super Mario game. Which is the name to the ride. We liked eating at the Minion Cafe, and Margaritavile. We had a great time. My son's liked going to see the anime at the convention center. I've seen people take Uber, and other modes of transportation. We drove so we used our own car.

LA is a lovely place but is quite expensive.

LA is a lovely place but is quite expensive. Make sure you look at the Metro lines so you're not wasting money getting Uber everywhere and try not to go for fine dining restaurants as they charge you a 20% gratuity which is on top of what you ate as well as the tip you're expected to give.

Los Angeles is so big that you need time to explore it.

Los Angeles is so big that you need time to explore it. We were there during the riots and so we were on our guard a bit about where we should and shouldn't go though to be honest they were a long way from us and I think you always need to be on your guard in LA. Hollywood seems to have cleaned itself up a little over the last few years but there are still alot of problems with people living on the streets and general safety and cleanliness in the area. There are however some amazing things to do - Universal and Warner Studios are both great days out, The Grammy Museum is worth a visit if you love music, Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood sign are always amazing. (get the bus down the hill if there is an event on at the Greek or at busy times otherwise you'll be waiting hours for an Uber) Venice to Santa Monica is also a must do - there is an amazing bike ride you can do on Sunday evenings along that route which is super fun, loads and loads of restaurants and street trucks to sample and of course lots of sports events in and around you can go see. You need money - its expensive generally in LA. Oh and don't forget to try the new WAYMO driverless cars (or alternatively LYFT / Uber to get around (the metro can be a little scary).

    I loved the Griffith Observatory.

I loved the Griffith Observatory. The Centre of Life show was an unbelievable experience and worth the trip for it alone. LA has a vibe of a mix of all things, from Beverly Hills, to downtown Hollywood, to beaches of Venice and Santa Monica. Easy public transport options and great food options.

Staff was great. Very courteous and willing to guide in the city. Security in the hotel. We felt save in the area. Unfortunately everyplace in Los Angeles has homeless walking around (even beverly hills) because they seem to be approved to travel via bus and metro free... So... Having a safe place to rest was great. Bed was great.. A/C worked... All good. I would stay again definitely. Close to a metro station and the Hollywood main attraction walk of fame

The pictures on the listing are incredibly misleading, what I thought was going to be a small cramped apartment in DTLA was actually incredibly spacious with amazing facilities. As you open your door, it literally leads into the most amazing rooftop patio area with barbeques and an amazing view of Los Angeles. Much better than most AirBnBs and Hotels combined that I've stayed at in LA.
