We read lots of horrible reviews leading right up to our trip that made us pretty nervous, but we stuck with this hotel. Its true, the front desk staff was a bit spaced out and at times way over tasked. Queues for them were long, and calling down could take 2-3 minutes for them to pick up. The room was dated, and not as clean as it could have been when we showed up. The bed was creaky and the pillows flat. Not a luxury hotel any more compared to many other places that are newer. That said we saw workers repainting rooms, and I imagine they are working on it, now that the hotel has new ownership(it changed from when we booked till when we arrived).
The location of the hotel, its pool area, and its access to the beach is fantastic. The pool/bar staff were all very friendly and worked hard all day to serve the many customers they had. The pool was crowded, but thats to be expected at a hotel like this, and yes, if you don't get there early, you shouldn't expect to get 2 chairs, with an umbrella, right at the pool. You might have to wait. This is Miami and thats just how it works. Overall we really enjoyed our stay, the hotel met our needs, and both the pool and beach area were great.
