I extremely enjoyed the gentleman by the name of Alexander who checked us in. He represented your resort with a warm and inviting demeanor that unfortunately is becoming rare these days. The first point of contact is extremely important and Alexander did a wonderful job at making us feel welcomed!
Unfortunately, our room was very close to an elevator and your elevators have a loud dinging noise that is almost unbearable. It actually woke us up in the morning. I would recommend the resort tone down the elevator floor dings. Aside from this, our stay was a superb delight.
We didn't take advantage of it, but the Claremont offers childcare, they also a day camp, I would recommend asking when the camp kids are at the pool. They seem to be gone by 2:30. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day stay--opting to explore the local neighborhoods for many of our meals. There were 3 adults and 2 kids in our family group and we really fell in love with Berkely and the Claremont. It's both kid and business friendly, but also a romantic setting for a couple. Other than the pool, you wouldn't know there was a camp going on. It's a charming place to stay.
View, the club, room, breakfast, pool, surroundings, garden, lobby.
Spaceous rooms. Exercise possibilities and pools were nice. Charming hotel
no fridge in the room.
I like the old-school, classy feel of the hotel. Very good service too.
Love this hotel and their spa. If there also try going on a mini hike in Claremont canyon. It's beautiful. By far the best hotel in the bay area
Great neighborhood, easy walking distance to shops and restaurants, beautiful grounds. Loved the pool and was very happy to have access to the 'business center'---a few computers and a printer. The staff at Meritage, one of the restaurants, are the best!!!
They say they make a note of preferences of returning guests. That hasn't been my experience. My room requests have never been honored.
In addition to room charge by the website, upon check-in, the hotel charged daily facility usage fee, notwithstanding whether you use it or not (for pool, gym, etc) for $75 per day or so. Be aware.
Overpriced on everything
We loved the grandeur and history of the building, excellent views and facilites and an excellent room service menu - greatly appreciated by tired travellers with hungry teenage boys. We all felt that we were staying somewhere really special. Good value for money even with the resort (26$ for a 5 people is really nothing!). It must be said that the weather this side of the bay is much better than in San-Francisco and the Marin valley area. SF is a short ferry ride from Oakland which is a 15 minute drive from the Claremont.
The Paragon restaurant was very crowded and the food very basic. My daughter's children's menu was quite poor. Much better restaurants in Berkley.
We love the property and the location. It is nice to have large rooms that allow you to move around without bumping into the walls or furniture. We enjoyed the fitness facility.
It is a long walk to the room from the elevator. It would be nice to have some stairwells that allow interim access so you don't have to go all the way to the elevator/stairs just to turn around and head back to get to the fitness facility.
The View, the club, the complementary upgrade as it was our wedding night!
No co-ed steam rooms, saunas, or hot tubs
The hotel had a very classic feel
The room was small
Location was great. Unfortunately we arrived too late to enjoy the amenities
I reserved 2 rooms and had to call multiple times because someone or something kept cancelling one. The room was overpoweringly musty or moldy
View! Dining options Spa
Some parts of the facilities were dated.
I have stayed before and I liked it. Its a big hotel with a spa and good restaurants.
My room was over the trash area. That wasnt the problem. Directly across the hall there was a party going on at 7:30 with at least 6 or 7 people in the room with shreiking kids and loud adults. The kids mostly 6-12 ages were banging on the walls jumping around and screaming. I asked the people to please quiet down and they ignored me. I reported it to the staff and they were unable to controll the situation which lasted past 10 pm when they finally tried to move me. One man dropped his kid off and picked him up the next day, and was rude to me in the hallway. It was obvious some of these people were not registered hotel guests. It was really obnoxious and the staff was unable to do anything to stop it.
Great proximity to UC Berkeley campus (five minute drive or 30 minute walk). Very nice area of Berkeley. Beautiful views, albeit distant, of the bay, city, and bridge.
Location was excellent for day trips to San Francisco, Monterey and Napa. Pool, whirlpool and fitness room were excellent. Very clean. Our room was very large.
If there is a wedding going on, parking becomes almost impossible but you are charged $30.00 per day for it. Also, you will get some noise from other rooms, especially if the people next to you have a screaming child that they allow the child to continue to scream.
Beautiful building and grounds. The restaurants and room service were delicious.
The bed linens were dirty with multiple stains on the pillows and comforter. With one or two exceptions, the staff was cold and unfriendly.
The front desk personnel helped me find an ideal room.
The setting of this hotel is lovely. The grounds are kept up very well and the hotel is clean. We found most of the staff to be quite friendly and accomodating.
The cost of parking and resort fee added a considerable amount to our bill. We did not use the resort's pool, exercise facilities, or resort activities which will make us think twice before staying at this hotel again.
All of the above. It is a majestic property, with lots of history, Old World elegance and incredible views of the Bay.
The staff upgraded us to a king room at no extra cost. OUr room was spacious and comfortable. The grounds are very pretty.
Even the most gentle closing of a door was quite loud. You could hear people coming and going quite easily.
Variety of spa. Good bed.
No room in shower for shampoo etc on shelf. Creaky bathroom door.
